Tynan
Ailish Tynan was born in Mullingar, Ireland,
and studied at Trinity College and the Royal
Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama,
London. In 2003 Ailish represented Ireland
in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World
Competition, winning the BBC Singer of the
World Rosenblatt Recital Prize. Other awards
include the Maggie Teyte Competition,
Miriam Licette Award and the RTE
Millennium Singer of the Future.
Whilst a member of the former Vilar Young
Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House,
Covent Garden, Ailish performed the roles of
Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, First Niece in
Peter Grimes, Xenia in Boris Godunov and
Second Wood Nymph in Rusalka. Roles
elsewhere include Valencienne in The Merry
Widow and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro
for Welsh National Opera, Euridice in Orfeo
and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte for Opera
Ireland, Flora in The Knot Garden with the
BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir
Andrew Davis, Aenchen in Der Freischütz at
the Edinburgh International Festival
conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and
Marzelline in Fidelio with the National
Symphony Orchestra of Ireland in Dublin.
In the 2006/7 season Ailish made her US
debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni for the
Seattle Opera and returned to the Royal
Opera House, Covent Garden to perform the
role of Marzelline in Fidelio.
Highlights on the concert platform include a
televised programme of music by Mozart
with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra
conducted by Sir Roger Norrington at the
2006 BBC Proms, Carmina Burana with the
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by
Daniel Gatti, Barber’s Knoxville Summer of
1915 with the BBC Scottish Symphony
Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No 4 with
the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Martyn
Brabbins at the Cheltenham Music Festival,
Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne with

Ulster
Orchestra
and
Ravel’s
Scheherazade with the BBC Philharmonic
Orchestra.
As a recitalist, Ailish has collaborated with
distinguished
accompanists
including
Malcolm Martineau, Graham Johnston, Julius
Drake, Iain Burnside and Barry Douglas,
giving recitals at the Edinburgh International
Festival, City of London Festival,
Cheltenham Music Festival, West Cork Music
Festival, Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith
Square, London.
In the 2006/7 season Ailish joined the Nash
Ensemble on a concert tour of Sweden and
gave recitals in Tokyo, Barcelona, Valloires
Festival, France and Bryn Terfel’s Faenol
Festival.
As a former BBC New Generation Artist,
Ailish is a regular contributor on BBC Radio
3. Recent recordings include Schubert’s
Shepherd on the Rock on the Wigmore Hall Live
label, Irish Songs by Herbert Hughes and Songs
of Judith Weir both on the Signum Classics
label.
This season’s highlights include her European
debut as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier for the
Royal Swedish Opera, Woodbird in Siegfried
for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
and recitals at the Wigmore Hall, London,
Getty Museum, Los Angeles, National
Gallery Dublin, St John’s Smith Square,
London, a concert tour with the Irish
Chamber Orchestra and a series of Viennese
concerts with Bournemouth Symphony
orchestra.
Future plans include Héro in Béatrice et
Bénédict for Houston Grand Opera and a
series of concerts with Camerata Pacifica,
Santa Barbara.
Iain Burnside enjoys a unique reputation as pianist and broadcaster, forged through his
commitment to the song repertoire and his collaborations with leading international singers.
In recent seasons such artists have included Galina Gorchakova, Lisa Milne, Rebecca Evans, Joan
Rodgers, Susan Gritton, Yvonne Kenny, Susan Bickley, John Mark Ainsley, Mark Padmore and
Andrew Kennedy, Roderick Williams, Christopher Maltman and Bryn Terfel.

Pianist
His recording work shows Iain’s passion for British music. For Signum he has recorded Tippett with
John Mark Ainsley, Judith Weir with Ailish Tynan, Susan Bickley and Andrew Kennedy, and FG
Scott with Lisa Milne and Roderick Williams. Forthcoming Signum releases included Herbert Hughes
with Ailish Tynan, Britten with Susan Gritton and Mark Padmore and Korngold with Sarah Connolly
and Christopher Maltman.
Naxos CDs include the complete songs of Gerald Finzi with John Mark Ainsley and Roderick
Williams, together with Vaughan Williams and William Alwyn. More Vaughan Williams will be
released on the new Albion label. Black Box recordings feature Debussy, Schoenberg and an acclaimed
disc of Copland with the late Susan Chilcott.
Jack Liebeck was born in 1980 in London. From 1989-1999 he attended the Purcell School of
Music and then the RAM, where he studied with Professor Mateja Marinkovic, graduating in 2003.
Performing concertos and recitals since the age of eleven, Jack’s appearances have taken him around
the world. Since making his concerto debut with the Hallé Orchestra, he has performed with many
orchestras of international repute including the London Philharmonic and has appeared under the
baton of several renowned conductors including Sir Neville Marriner. In 2002 Jack made his
acclaimed London recital debut in a sold-out Wigmore Hall.

Last season’s appearances included concertos with the Philharmonia under Alexander Lazarev, the
Moscow State Symphony with Pavel Kogan, the RSNO with Garry Walker and the Royal Liverpool
Philharmonic with Petrenko. In 2008, Jack will perform the Magnus Lindberg concerto with both the
Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra in Spain, the Mendelssohn
Concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony and Douglas Boyd, will give recitals in Liverpool and at
the Bath International Festival and return to the Australian Chamber Music Festival.
Sally Pendlebury attended the Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and then went on to study
at the Guildhall School of Music and whilst there, won the Capital Radio Prize and was also a prize
winner in the Shell/LSO competition.
She is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and has performed and recorded with many of
the great soloists and conductors of today. She was a founder member of the Vellinger String Quartet
who won The London International String Quartet Competition in 1994 and with them, toured
regularly throughout Europe, Japan and the USA. The quartet performed at many festivals such as
Mostly Mozart at the Lincoln Centre, Edinburgh, Bath, Cheltenham, Klangboden in Vienna and
Mondsee. She is a regular participant in chamber music festivals in Britain Europe and the USA.
Sally Pendlebury
Cellist
Later this year she will be performing in Chamber Music series in New York, San Francisco and Graz.
Sally plays guest principal cello with many British Orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, English
Chamber Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra
and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
