Greetings
It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you to Tunisia for AfroBasket 2015,
the biggest basketball Tournament in Africa.
C’est pour nous un grand plaisir de vous accueillir à l’AfroBasket 2015, le
plus grand championnat de basket-ball en Afrique.
We are excited to see the best African players taking part in this
tournament.
Nous sommes ravis de voir les meilleurs joueurs africains participer à cette
compétition.
The Tunisian people are known for their legendary hospitality, especially
regarding organisation of sports events. It is moreover what determined
the choice of this country to host AfroBasket 2015.
Le peuple tunisien est connu pour son hospitalité légendaire, surtout en
matière d’organisation de manifestations sportives; c’est d’ailleurs ce qui a
déterminé le choix de ce pays pour abriter l’AfroBasket 2015.
It is not a first time for this country, which has great experience in
organizing basketball competitions both at club and national level.
Ce n’est pas une première pour ce pays qui a une grande expérience dans
l’organisation des compétitions de basketball tant au niveau des clubs que
des nations.
The 1965 and 1987 editions of the African Nations Championship were
played in Tunisia in great fervor.
The 28th edition of the AfroBasket, to be held from 19 - 30 August 2015,
will once again be an opportunity for Tunisia to put its expertise at the
disposal of African people and the rest of the world.
We expect the games in Radès to be both very exciting and extremely
competitive, as it has been the case in the past.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tunisia Basketball
Federation and the country’s government for once again supporting and
promoting the game of basketball.
We are also thankful to the Local Organising Committee of AfroBasket
2015 and all the volunteers who are investing their time for the love
of the sport.
Les éditions 1965 et 1987 du Championnat d’Afrique des Nations ont été
disputées en Tunisie dans une grande ferveur.
La 28ème édition de l’AfroBasket qui se déroulera du 19 - 30 Août 2015
sera une fois encore l’occasion pour la Tunisie de démonter son savoir-faire
pour le succès de l’évènement.
Nous osons espérer que les matches qui se disputeront à Radès seront à
la hauteur de notre attente et saisissons cette opportunité pour remercier
la Fédération Tunisienne de basketball et le gouvernement tunisien pour
leur engagement à ne ménager aucun effort au bon déroulement de la
compétition.
Nous témoignons également notre reconnaissance au Comité Local
d’Organisation de l’AfroBasket 2015 de même qu’à tous les bénévoles.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
On 5 March 2014, when FIBA Africa ndecided to entrust Tunisia with the
organisation of the 28th edition of AfroBasket 2015, twenty-nine years
after the edition of 1987 organised on our land, it meant for us that a new
page was about to open, with new horizons for national basketball.
And what more natural to host AfroBasket, than the choice of Tunisia,
considering its former name, Ifriqya, witness of its African dimension.
It is a vibrant tribute paid for the significant work achieved by the Tunisian
Basketball Federation at every level; but that makes us being also more
aware of our responsibility to develop and promote our sport.
Hosting AfroBasket is certainly an honor, but also a big duty.
Indeed, nothing must be left to chance, from welcoming at the airport, to
the sites of accommodation and competition.
Our objective will be to offer to our guests the best conditions of stay so
that they can fully express themselves on the court.
The sports and hotel facilities with which our country is equipped make us
fully confident.
May the fans of this sport from wherever they are, the delegations of
participating countries, officials and managers of African basketball,
be able to find again, on this receipting and hospitality land, the best
conditions of stay and competition and a country favorable to the
strengthening of fraternity and African solidarity.
May FIBA find herein the expression of our gratitude for the trust and the
support granted to Tunisia in the difficult moments, acting as true friends
of our country.
May the representatives of participating countries to the event be able
to fully express themselves and enjoy the welcoming heat and quality of
hospitality and security that will be provided to them.
We will know how to show the world our capacity of organising and
reinforcing the radiance of Tunisia’s image.
Mesdames, Messieurs,
Le 05 Mars 2014, quand FIBA-AFRIQUE a décidé d’attribuer à la Tunisie
l’organisation de la 28e édition 2015 de l’AfroBasket, vingt-neuf ans après
l’édition de 1987 organisée sur nos terres, c’est pour nous une nouvelle
page qui s’ouvre avec de nouveaux horizons pour le basket-ball national.
En vérité quoi de plus naturel que le choix de la Tunisie, ne serait-ce que de
par son nom antique, Ifriqya, témoin de sa dimension africaine.
Ceci est un vibrant hommage pour le travail important qui a été réalisé par
la Fédération Tunisienne de Basket-Ball à tous les niveaux ; mais cela nous
rend aussi plus conscients de la responsabilité qui nous incombe de faire
progresser et grandir notre discipline sportive.
Accueillir l’AfroBasket est certes un honneur, mais aussi une grosse
responsabilité.
En effet, rien ne doit être laissé au hasard, de l’accueil à l’aéroport en
passant par les sites d’hébergement et de compétition.
Notre objectif sera d’offrir à nos hôtes les meilleures conditions de séjour
afin qu’ils puissent s’exprimer pleinement sur le terrain.
Les infrastructures sportives et hôtelières dont est doté notre pays sont de
nature à nous rassurer pleinement.
Que les amateurs de ce sport d’où qu’ils soient, les délégations des pays
participants, les officiels et les dirigeants du basket-ball africain, puissent
encore trouver, en cette terre d’accueil et d’hospitalité, les meilleures
conditions de séjour et de compétition et un terrain favorable à la
consolidation de la fraternité et de la solidarité africaine.
Que FIBA trouve ici l’expression de notre gratitude pour la confiance et le
soutien accordés à la Tunisie dans les moments difficiles, agissant aussi
comme de vrais amis de notre pays.
Que les représentants des différents pays participants à cette joute
trouvent du plaisir à pleinement se dépenser et à savourer la chaleur de
l’accueil et la qualité de l’hospitalité et la sécurité qui leur seront réservés.
On saura montrer au monde entier un niveau d’organisation de nature
à renforcer le rayonnement de l’image de la Tunisie à travers le monde.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Mesdames et Messieurs,
It is with great honour and pride that I chair the Local Organising
Committee of the 28th edition of AfroBasket 2015.
C’est avec beaucoup d’honneur et un brin de fierté que j’ai présidé
le Comité Local d’Organisation de la 28ème édition du Championnat
d’Afrique des Nations Masculins, AfroBasket 2015.
Indeed, AfroBasket 2015 is more than just a sporting event and much
more than a continental tournament.
This is an opportunity, offered by Africa, to point out the sense
of hospitality of Tunisian people, their rigor and readiness to face
challenges.
It is also a message of hope to our youth.
The committee I lead is composed of basketball fans who are
respectful of the educational value of the sport. They all showed great
expertise in the organisation of continental sports competitions.
Un Comité formé d’hommes amoureux du basketball et respectueux de
la valeur éducative du sport.
Tous ces hommes ont un savoir-faire en matière d’organisation de
compétitions sportives d’envergure continentale.
C’est à tous bénévoles, je rends en priorité un vibrant hommage pour la
densité et leur qualité de leur travail.
Je voudrais adresser aussi mes remerciements à M. Ali Benzarti, un
homme d’action, pour sa confiance et son soutien.
I pay tribute to all these volunteers for the density and quality of their
work.
Son engagement pour ce beau sport devrait être un exemple pour bien
de dirigeants.
I would also like to thank Mr. Ali Benzarti, a man of action, for his
confidence and support.
Ma reconnaissance va également au Gouvernement tunisien qui a cru
en ce projet titanesque et exaltant.

Cet évènement a un impact positif sur l’image de la Tunisie, sur sa
jeunesse, sur le sport national en général et la promotion du basketball
dans notre pays.
I am also thankful to the Tunisia Government for having trusted us in
this gigantic and exciting project.
This event has a positive impact on the country’s image, as well as on
the national sport and the promotion of basketball in Tunisia.
I also thank the security services and all the local community for their
support that helped us succeeds in the organisation of this tournament.
Finally, I have a very warm thought full of gratitude to the hundreds of
young volunteers who agreed to join us for this high level event.
Long live the Olympic ideals that are sport, education and culture!

Je veux saisir cette occasion pour féliciter les responsables des
collectivités locales pour leur soutien indéfectible pour le succès de
cette compétition.

compétition n’aurait pas revêtu la sérénité qu’elle a connue.
Enfin, j’ai une pensée très chaleureuse pleine de gratitude envers

Rades, tunis
Rades
Located about ten kilometers in the southern suburbs of Tunis,
Rades is an administration linked to the governorate of Ben Arous.
This municipality, which has about 44.857 inhabitants, was originally
located on a 350 hectares Hill.
The city was later extended to the surrounding plain towards the river
Miliane and the Mediterranean Sea.
The populations of Rades, like all Tunisian people, are basketball fans.
L’Étoile Sportive de Rades who plays in the first division championship
are the flagship club of the city.
Rades was considered in the 1960s and 1970s as the heart of Tunisian
Basketball thanks to number of national titles won by ES Radès.
The club had talented players such as the brothers Mohamed, Baccar,
Khaled and Fethi Snoussi, Bach Tobji, Kaïs Mrad, Ferjani Jouini and
Taoufik Bouhima.
ES Rades has a rich history having won 20 titles including 11 Tunisian
league titles in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972
(9 in a row ), 1976 and 1984), and 9 Tunisia national Cup titles in 1961,
1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1972.
On the continent level, the ES Rades won the silver medal in the FIBA
Africa Champions Cup for Men 2014.

Radès
Située à une dizaine de kilomètre de la banlieue sud Tunis, Radès est
une ville rattachée administrativement au gouvernorat de Ben Arous.
Cette municipalité qui compte environ 44 857 habitants en 2004, était
située à l’origine sur une colline comportant de 350 hectares.
La ville s’est étendue par la suite à la plaine environnante en direction
de l’oued Miliane et de la mer Méditerranée.
Les populations de Radès à l’instar de tout le peuple tunisien sont fans
de basketball.
L’Étoile Sportive de Radès qui évolue dans le championnat de première
division est le club phare de la ville.
Radès a été considéré dans les années 1960 et 1970 comme le cœur du
basket-ball tunisien grâce au nombre de titres nationaux remportés par
l’ES Radès.
Le club avait des joueurs talentueux tels les frères Mohamed, Baccar,
Khaled et Fethi Snoussi, Bach Tobji, Kaïs Mrad, Ferjani Jouini et Taoufik
Bouhima.
L’ES Radès a un palmarès riche avec 20 titres dont 11 titres de
champions de Tunisie en 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970,
1971, 1972 (9 fois consécutives), 1976 et 1984) et 9 coupes Nationales
de Tunisie en 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1971 et 1972.

Group phase
Phase de groupes
The first phase of the tournament will be played in a round robin
format, with every team taking on its three opponents in its
respective group.
Dans la première phase du tournoi, les 16 équipes seront réparties en
quatre (4) groupes de quatre (4). Chaque équipe rencontrera les trois
(3) adversaires de son groupe.
Final phase
Les équipes des groupes A et C joueront aux 1er, 3ème et 5ème jours
de compétition alors que les équipes des groupes B et D joueront aux
2ème, 4ème et 6ème jours.
All teams will then advance to the Round of 16, where Group A crosses
with Group B (A1 – B4, etc.) and Group C with Group D (C1-D4, etc.)
The tournament will be played in a knockout format from the Round of
16 onwards (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final).
The winners of the Quarter-Finals advance to the Semi-Finals, losers
play Classification Games for Places 5-8. Classification games will also
be played for Places 9-16.
The Third-Place Game and the Final will be played on the last day of
the competition.

Phase finale
Toutes les équipes seront ensuite qualifiées pour les huitièmes de
finale. Dès lors, le tournoi se jouera avec des matches à élimination
directe. Les équipes A joueront contre celles du groupe B (A1-B4, etc :
jour 7), et celles du groupe C contre celles du groupe D (C1-D4, jour 8).
Les vainqueurs accéderont aux quarts de finale (jour 9).
Les vainqueurs des quarts de finale se qualifieront pour les demi-finales
(jour 11). Les perdants joueront quant à eux les matchs de classement
de la 5ème à la 8ème place (jour 10 et 11). Des matchs de classement
se joueront également pour déterminer les équipes de la 9ième à la
16ème places.
Les demi-finales auront lieu au 11ème jour de compétition.
Le match pour la troisième place et la finale seront joués le dernier jour
(jour 12, dimanche 30 août).

NIGERIA
Nigeria was probably the most successful African
team in 2012. Ike Diogu and his teammates made
history by qualifying Nigeria to their first-ever
Olympic appearance.
Le Nigéria a été sans doute l’équipe africaine la plus
performante en 2012.
Bronze medalist at AfroBasket 2011 in Madagascar,
the D’Tigers qualified London 2012, after beating
some European powerhouse such as Greece and
Lithuania in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament
in Caracas, Venezuela.
Seen by many observers as one of the title contenders
at AfroBasket 2013, Nigeria failed all the predictions,
having finished seventh.
After this unsuccessful campaign, coach Sani Ahmed
took helm of the team, helping the team to qualify for
AfroBasket 2015, after winning both of their two-leg
games of the group E Qualifiers in Zone 3 against
Burkina Faso.
To win their first continental title, Nigeria
have appointed Will Voigt as new coach for
AfroBasket 2015.

Ike Diogu et ses coéquipiers ont marqué l’histoire
en qualifiant, pour la première fois, le Nigéria aux
Jeux Olympiques.
Médaillé de bronze à l’AfroBasket 2011 à Madagascar,
les D’Tigers avaient obtenu leur billet pour Londres
2012 en battant, en Tournoi de qualification, de
grandes équipes européennes telles que la Grèce
et la Lituanie.
Attendu sur le podium de l’AfroBasket 2013 par
plusieurs observateurs, le Nigéria a déjoué tous les
pronostics en terminant 7 ème au classement général.
Après cette campagne infructueuse, le coach Sani
Ahmed a pris les commandes de l’équipe et qualifié
le Nigéria pour l’AfroBasket 2015, en battant, lors des
éliminatoires du groupe E de la Zone 3, le Burkina Faso
par 87-64 puis 63-50.
Dans l’optique de remporter leur premier titre
continental, le Nigéria a nommé l’Américain, Will Voigt
comme nouvelle entraineur principal.

TUNISIE
Tunisia made history at AfroBasket 2011 in
Madagascar, as they earned their first ever title.
In that tournament, the team led by Adel Tlatli
managed to fend off Angola 67-56 in the final.
As result Tunisia punched their ticket for the 2012
Olympic Games in London.
La Tunisie a enregistré la meilleure performance de
son histoire à l’AfroBasket en 2011 à Madagascar,
en remportant le premier titre africain de son histoire.
Two years ago, seen as the team to beat at AfroBasket
held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, the team had a counterperformance, finishing a disappointing 9th place.
For the upcoming 28th edition of AfroBasket that will
take from 19 - 30 August in Tunis and Nabeul, Tunisia
have only one target: winning the title lost in Abidjan
and secure their qualification for the 2016 Olympic
Games in Rio de Janeiro.

En 2013, alors qu’elle comptait parmi les favoris
de l’AfroBasket d’Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire,
l’équipe a connu une contreperformance en ratant
complétement sa participation à la compétition avec
une décevante 9ème place au classement final.
Pour la 28ème édition de l’AfroBasket qu’elle organise
chez elle, du 19 au 30 Août 2015 à Tunis et Nabeul,
la Tunisie s’est fixé un seul et unique objectif :
remporter le titre perdu à Abidjan et participer aux
Jeux Olympiques de Rio en 2016.

Uganda made history last summer in their capital city
of Kampala after finishing second in the FIBA Africa
Zone 5 qualifier, behind Egypt, who had just returned
from the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
L’Ouganda est rentré dans l’histoire du Basket
international en Septembre 2014, en se qualifiant pour
la première fois, à la 28ème édition de l’AfroBasket qui
doit se dérouler en Tunisie, à l’issue des éliminatoires
de la Zone 5, disputées à Kampala.
This qualification was welcomed with jubilation
throughout the country, which confirms the popularity
basketball has gained since its introduction in the
sixties, by American volunteers of the Peace Corps.
To succeed in this tournament, Uganda have kept their
coaching crew including Mandy Juruni as head coach
and his assistant Gad Eteu. They also added American
Paul Johnson to the coaching staff. Johnson had
already served in the Ugandan basketball as a
volunteer.

Central African Republic (CAF) is one of the three
countries awarded wild cards for the AfroBasket 2015.
La République Centrafricaine (CAF) est l’un des
trois pays qui ont bénéficié des Wild Cards pour
l’AfroBasket 2015.
Two-time winner of the tournament, CAF have
recorded a series of disappointing results over the
course of the past few years.
CAF who finished 13th at AfroBasket 2013 in Abidjan,
failed direct qualification for this year’s tournament
in Tunisia, in their group G Qualifier held in March in
Libreville, Gabon.
They are now eyeing a third continental title and
“being in Tunisia is undoubtedly a source of great
memories for our country which won its second and
last continental title in this country, 28 years ago,”
said Max Kouguere, one of the best players of the
Central African Republic.

of AfroBasket.

Morocco were crowned African champions in the
second edition of the AfroBasket in 1965 in Tunisia.
C’est le deuxième vainqueur de l’histoire de
l’AfroBasket après l’Egypte qui s’est adjugé le trophée
en 1962 et en 1964.
They haven’t reached the highest step of the podium
since that successful campaign.
They claimed two silver medals and two others in
bronze in their history.
Fifty years later, Morocco are set to return to the
stage of their first title, in this year’s AfroBasket from
19-30 August in the Tunisian cities of Nabeul and
Tunis.
Several generations of players have come and gone,
Morocco still have a team filled with talent, aiming at
least the semi-final.
Achieving the last four is not an impossible task for the
10th ranked African nation in the FIBA World Ranking.
Depuis le titre continental acquis en 1965, le Maroc
n’est plus monté sur la plus haute marche du podium,
se contentant de deux médailles en argent et deux
autres en bronze.
Cinquante ans après, le Maroc retourne, cet été, sur
les lieux mêmes de son premier sacre, à l’occasion de
la 28ème édition de la plus prestigieuse compétition
africaine de basketball qui se déroulera du 19 - 30
Août 2015, dans les villes tunisiennes de Nabeul
et Tunis.
Aujourd’hui, plusieurs générations de joueurs sont
passées et le Maroc dispose d’une équipe qui regorge
de talents et qui vise au moins la demi-finale.
Atteindre cet objectif n’est vraiment pas chose
impossible pour la 10ème nation africaine au
classement Mondial bwin de la FIBA.

Mozambique is the number two country in Africa
Zone 6, with a most appearances at AfroBasket
after Angola.
Le Mozambique est le deuxième pays de la zone 6, le
plus régulier aux phases finales de l’AfroBasket après
l’Angola. Ce pays n’est pourtant pas encore parvenu
à décrocher une place dans le carré d’As. Le meilleur
classement du Mozambique reste une cinquième
place acquise au Caire (Egypte) en 1980. La dernière
édition de l’AfroBasket disputée en Côte d’Ivoire, a été
l’occasion de constater que l’équipe du Mozambique a
retrouvé son état d’esprit des années 1980.
However Mozambique have never reached a place
the Final round of the tournament.
Their best result in African elite competition was
a fifth-place finish achieved at AfroBasket 1983
in Cairo, Egypt.
Two years ago, at AfroBasket played in Cote d’Ivoire,
Mozambique showed that they have found their
winning spirit of the 1980s.
For the upcoming tournament, which will take place
in Tunisia, Mozambique take aim at finishing among
the eight best teams of the event.
That’s why they re-signed Inaki Garcia who led the
team to AfroBasket 2011 in Madagascar.

The Cameroon national team achieved their best
performance at the 24th edition of AfroBasket held in
2007 in Angola.
L’équipe nationale du Cameroun a réalisé sa plus belle
prestation à une phase finale d’AfroBasket lors de la
24ème édition qui s’est disputée en 2007 en Angola. En
effet, pour sa quatrième participation à la compétition
phare du basketball en Afrique, le Cameroun avait
remporté la médaille d’argent.
Indeed, for their fourth appearance in the Africa
biggest basketball competition, Cameroon earned
their first-ever silver medal.
Since then, the team dropped in the rankings of the
last three editions of the African championship.
Cameroon who secured their qualification by beating
the Republic of Congo (81-69 and 80-68) in their twogame Group F Qualifier, have set their ambitions high
for their sixth AfroBasket appreance.
Following the official draw in early April, Luc Mbah
Moute stated that he and his teammates will do
everything in their power to “book a ticket for the 2016
Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.”

Egypt won the first two editions of the AfroBasket
and is now the third most titled country behind Angola
and Senegal.

They last won the continental championship in 1983.
Back in 2013, Egypt successfully reached the Final
of AfroBasket after more than thirty years. Despite
the defeat against Angola in the final, the “Pharaons”
punched their ticket for the 2014 FIBA World Cup
in Spain.
Considéré par certains observateurs comme le
berceau du basketball Africain, l’Egypte a longtemps
dominé cette discipline sportive. Mais le dernier titre
continental de l’Egypte remonte à 1983. Plus de trente
ans après ce sacre, l’Egypte a disputé la finale de
l’AfroBasket 2013 à Abidjan. Battus par l’Angola, les
Pharaons avaient validé leur billet pour la coupe du

For Marei, the team rebuilding was Egypt’s main

participation gabonaise à l’AfroBasket, où l’équipe
avait terminé à la 9ème et révélé au grand public les
talents de Stéphane Lasme son meilleur joueur, qui
avait réalisé une performance moyenne de 11,7 PPG et
10,1 RPG.
Lasme showed everyone in that tournament that he
had a bright future, averaging 11.7 points and 10.1
rebounds.
Gabon booked their place for the event following
a successful Group G qualifier held in their capital
Libreville in March this year.
The Gabonese won three of their four games thanks
to standout Francis Kobangoye.
To make history in Tunisia, Gabon could rely on the

at AfroBasket.
Le Mali sera à sa sixième participation consécutive à
une phase finale d’AfroBasket. Mohamed Tangara et
ses coéquipiers ont validé leur ticket pour Tunis 2015
en battant le Sénégal par 65 - 43 puis 50 – 47, lors des
éliminatoires du groupe B disputés, respectivement,
les 14 et 28 février 2014, à Bamako (Mali) et à Dakar
(Sénégal).

Two years ago, at the 2013 edition of the 16-team

team with a potential to reach top places in African
championships, their best accomplishment at
AfroBasket over the past four decades was a thirdplace finish in 1972.
To put an end to this situation, Mali Basketball
Federation has decided to gather all their best players

Même si le Mali a souvent eu des équipes
talentueuses et athlétiques, sa meilleure performance
dans le championnat d’Afrique au cours des quatre
dernières décennies, reste une troisième place
acquise en 1972.
Pour mettre fin à cette situation, le président Jean
Claude Sidibé a décidé d’entreprendre une tournée

Cape Verde is the third representative of the FIBA
Africa Zone 2 along with Mali and Senegal.
C’est le troisième représentant de la Zone 2 de FIBA
Afrique avec le Mali et le Sénégal. Le Cap Vert a validé
son ticket pour Tunisie 2015 à l’issue des éliminatoires
de cette Zone, disputées face à la Guinée, les 12 et 13
Février à Praia.
Vainqueur de la manche aller par 71 - 60, les insulaires
ont confirmé leur avantage lors du deuxième match
sur le score de 70 - 42.
Ce sera la sixième participation du Cap Vert à la
compétition phare de basketball en Afrique.
A l’AfroBasket 2007 disputé en Angola, le Cap vert
avait remporté une médaille de bronze grâce à sa
victoire 53-52 face à l’Egypte.
C’est d’ailleurs le meilleur classement de ce pays
qui a confié les rênes de son équipe nationale à
Luis Magalhaes avec pour ambition de réaliser une
meilleure prestation que la 6ème place acquise il y a
deux ans à Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire.

in Cape Verde capital city of Praia.
After a 71-60 win in Game 1, Cape Verde prevailed in
the second game with a 70-42 win.
Cape Verde will be making their sixth appearance in
Africa’s flagship Basketball tournament.
Back in 2007, Cape Verde won a bronze medal after
defeating Egypt by 53-52 in Luanda, Angola.
That was the country’s best result in the tournament
history.
In Tunisia 2015 Cape Verde will be coached by Luis
Magalhaes, with the ambition of achieving a better
performance than their 6th place accomplished two
years ago in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Zone 1 Qualifiers, Algeria were awarded a wild
Card and will be making their 16th appearance at
AfroBasket.

participation à l’AfroBasket grâce à l’attribution d’une
Wild Card.
Shortly after they received the invitation to take part
in the African continental championship, Mohamed
Harat, one of the country’s key players that “it
depends on us to them to prove that Algeria deserves
to be in Tunisia.”
Peu après l’attribution de cette invitation à prendre
part au championnat continental africain, Mohamed
Harat, l’un des joueurs clé du pays a estimé qu’il «

Algeria are one of the most regular countries in this
tournament, and they are still chasing their first

Zimbabwe men’s national team made history in
African basketball as they book their qualification
for AfroBasket 2015, following a successful campaign
in Group I Qualifier in FIBA Africa Zone 6 held in
February in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
L’équipe nationale masculine du Zimbabwe est rentrée
dans l’histoire du basketball africain en validant son
ticket pour cette édition 2015 de l’AfroBasket, à l’issue
des éliminatoires du Groupe I (Zone 6) disputées
durant la période du 21 au 28 Février 2015 à Bulawayo.
This is the first AfroBasket appearance for the
Southern African country.
Ce sera la première participation de ce pays d’Afrique
australe à la plus prestigieuse compétition de
basketball du continent africain.
To reach this stage, Zimbabwe battled hard to upset
South Africa with a 66-64 win in their last game of
the qualifiers.
Tatenda Maturure, one of the key players had scored
29 points, while Tawanda Chitsinde and Evaristo
Pasipamire had a dozen points apiece.
For their debut at the continental tournament,
Zimbabwe could rely on two of their best players
including Vitalis Chikoko and Julian Mavunga.
