THE JPII CONNECTION

The Easter season is full of new life and miracles. I had the
opportunity over Easter break to both read the book and see the
movie Miracle from Heaven. This story was based on a true story
about faith and miracles. Many of us go through life not
understanding why certain days are better than others, why we
don’t have answers for illness, death, poverty, etc., or why there
are times (especially the difficult times) when we can’t feel God’s
presence. This story reminds us that God is always near and He
sends us miracles every day. The miracle may be in the form of a
smile, or a hug, or a kind act from a stranger. The miracle may be
the blooming of a spring flower or a rainbow that shines in the sky. We have to be willing to
see the miracles that are there. Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your
life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” In
the beauty of this Easter season, look for the miracles that surround you. Remember, you
may be the miracle in the life of another person.

Author’s Tea
Classroom Highlights: A group of seventh and eighth
graders participated in the Engineering Competition
again this year. We visited the Cincinnati Zoo’s
Sustainability Tour to learn about pumping and filtering,
solar and wind power, aquaponics and water catchment
systems. The Cincinnati Observatory came to teach us about space
exploration with an emphasis on travel to Mars and telescopes. We
plan to visit the Observatory in May to see the telescope built in the
1840’s. Mrs. Nissen, Science Teacher form McAuley High School
visited our class to talk about the physics of a telescope to help us
prepare for the competition. Another topic we studied was Six
Sigma. Six Sigma is a manufacturing process used in many industries
like GE, Ford, and P&G. Mr. Bob Grosse shared his experiences with
Six Sigma from his work at Procter and Gamble.

STARS Auditions
On April 2, our 8th graders competed in a Speech Contest at St. Ignatius. Congratulations to Celeste Losey, Megan
Miller, Lucas Strunc, Jessica Hudgens, and Sydney Cardwell! Jessica earned 1st place for the “Grumpy Old Man”, a
humorous monologue. Celeste and Megan earned a ribbon for their humorous dialogue called “Hipster Hobos”.
Sydney and Lucas earned ribbons for their serious monologues.
Our Girl Scouts, the Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadets held a World
Thinking Day event. This annual event began in 1926 as a day where Girl
Scouts around the world think of each other and express their thanks and
appreciation. The girls get to "travel the world" and learn about the
history and culture of their sister scouts. The Daisies and Brownies
presented Mexico. The Juniors and
Cadets presented England with facts
and food. The girls dressed up as part of
the Royal Family with Gracie Adams as
the Queen of England with her Queen's
Guards, Anna McGraw and Emma Vogel
and their many princesses. (Lily Moore,
Deanna England, Riley Rolfert, Bella Williams, Alyssa Sunderman, Keira Picard, Jayden
Haskin, Catie Vogel, Trinity Vivians, and Emma Bays. Grace Hoffmann and Kayla
McCann were Hermione and Ginny from Harry Potter. Maria Buerger was a
Manchester United soccer player.
A Special Family Event! PTO and the school are always looking for new ways of raising
money. Many families dislike selling items door to door and yet we need to raise funds
for special activities and projects around the school. One solution to the door to door
sales is raising funds while promoting community/family. PTO is planning a night out
for JPII families and friends. On Thursday, April 28th from 6:30 – 8:45 we are asking all
families to dust off their skates and join us at Skatin’ Place on Colerain Avenue for a
night of exercise, family fun, and raising money for our school. I can’t think of a better
time! The cost for the evening is $6 per person (including skates and a drink). PTO will
earn $1 for each admission. Invite friends and relatives and roll on in for a night of skatin’ fun! Skatin’ Place is reserved
just for JPII!
Crystal Clear Science: Again this year, PTO is sponsoring a day of science with Crystal Clear Science. This special day is
scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th, for kindergarten through 5th grade. This year’s theme is E is For Energy. Each grade
will spend approximately 45 minutes in the gym working through a variety of stations. The stations will teach how air,
water, light, motion and magnetism create energy. We need your help with these hands-on activities. Please contact
Mrs. Honerlaw, [email protected] to volunteer for all or any part of the day. The children learn more when there is
an adult leading them through the experiment. Thank you in advance for your help.

MCAULEY TO HOST MANY EVENTS AND SUMMER CAMPS FOR
YOUNG GIRLS
CINCINNATI, OH –April 6, 2016- McAuley High School is hosting many
events and camps especially designed for grade school-aged girls this spring
and summer.
Mohawk Madness Event For 6th & 7th Grade Girls
Friday, April 22, 2016
All 6th and 7th grade girls are invited to Mohawk Madness from 6-9 p.m. The
evening includes LaRosa’s pizza, games, activities, music, and a build-yourown-sundae. There is a registration form online at

Future Mohawk Sports Night for Lacrosse
Thursday, April 28
Games are at 5:00 and 6:15 on McAuley’s home field behind the school. The
festivities for future Mohawks begin at 6:00. Future Mohawks will receive a
giveaway and free admission to the game. All grade school age girls are
welcome to attend.
Spring Showcase
Thursday, May 5
This is event is designed to meet the needs of 6th and 7th grade girls and their
families to get an early start in exploring all that McAuley has to offer!
Participants will begin at 6 p.m. with delicious food, and then meet and talk
with McAuley student ambassadors and school leaders. They will hear from
McAuley High School 6000 Oakwood Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45224
Principal Dan Minelli, as well as a teacher and student in McAuley’s
Performing Arts Center. Topics covered will be: the Tablet PC Program, the
one-of-a-kind Women In Program, the collegiate-like schedule, the academic
curriculum, the theology department, athletics, student activities and more!

Mini Mohawk Movie Night
Thursday, June 9
Incoming 5th and 6th graders are invited to join McAuley student ambassadors
for some movie fun! The featured movie will be Disney's Freaky Friday, a
comedy of a mom and teenage daughter who find themselves trapped in each
other's bodies after a bit of mystic mayhem. Included in the fun girls’ night
will also be candy, popcorn, nachos, games, prizes, and McAuley cheers.
Each girl will take home a special McAuley gift!

McAuley Summer Camps
Beginning June 6
McAuley High School once again will offer summer camps in the sports of
basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, cross country, golf, and dance.
Additionally, enrichment camps in babysitting, musical theatre, high school
placement test prep, and Harry Potter will be offered. Camps are open to girls
of many different, and some are also open to boys. Complete information on

Spring Harmony Showcase
Tuesday, April 19, 7:30 p.m. in McAuley’s Performing Arts Center
This concert features both McAuley’s Chorus and Vocal Ensemble, as well as
LaSalle High School’s Chorale and Vocal Ensemble and the combined Vocal
Ensemble Show Choir.
Tickets are $5 at the door.

Summer Theatre Arts Reaching Students
(for students in first grade through eighth grade)
The camp will focus on theatre development and
activities while preparing for a performance.
* Shows will be selected after receiving registration forms
and having a better idea
of the age and gender break down of campers as well as the
overall number of campers.
We are considering Anything Goes:Young Performers
Editions, as well as some Music Theatre International
Junior edition productions, and Disney “Kids” versions, to
best meet the needs of our campers.
