ISO2846 Compliant Screen Printing Inks
UviSPEED
Four-Color Process Screen Printing Inks
ISO 2846 Compliant
Meets G7 Process Control Recommendations
UviSPEED is a Fujifilm Sericol name describing halftone
screen inks used for screen printing of short-term graphics
such as Point-of-Purchase signage, displays and promotional materials typically printed on multi-color presses.
These inks comply with the ISO 2846 color standard. ISO
2846 establishes specifications for color and transparency
of four color process ink for four-color printing.
In addition, UviSPEED inks are developed to meet high
speed print conditions. UviSPEED inks incorporate a lower
ink rheology that provides improved ink flow out on the
screen and achieves excellent release from the screen
at extremely high print speeds while using minimal UV
energy (80-130 mJ/cm2 of UVA) for curing. UviSPEED
inks print with a superior low dot profile and hold the dot
structure over long press runs.
Background
The matching of screen, offset, or inkjet prints to a proof
has always presented a challenge to printers. The photographic proofing systems used in the past (Chromalin)
offered a useful visual target, but made an outright match
almost impossible, as the method of producing proofs
uses technology with a color gamut that volume print
technologies cannot match. More recently, inkjet proofing has become more common.
A current color process control method that affords a
real benefit to printers is called G7. G7 is an Idealliance
specification (target) that defines process controls for the
neutrality and tonality of an image whether on a proof or
from a press of any kind.
When the G7 method is used in an inkjet proofing device,
it produces a proof that more closely fits the color gamut
achievable by screen, offset or inkjet. These proofs are
now replacing other proofing methods, as they more
closely represent the eventual printed result. The G7
gray balance and Neutral Print Density Curves are being
used to develop a family of characterization data sets
(i.e. profiles) that for the first time have a shared visual
appearance.
For print buyers there is a clear advantage, as they might
be placing a campaign with a number of different printers requiring some items printed by screen, some offset
or inkjet. Being able to show the end client a realistic
proof is a real advantage - knowing the printed output
will ‘match’.
The benefits of using UviSPEED four color process screen
printing inks (ISO 2846 compliant as recommended when
using the G7 color process control method) are:
• Quicker and easier matching of proofs
– Reduced adjustments to color on press
– Reduced set-up times
– Reduced ink waste
• Better quality prints
– Wider color gamut
– More accurate representation of proof
• Business improvements
– More effective screen print process
– Common understanding of color expectation between printer and client
Conclusion
UviSPEED four color process inks should help enhance
the business of screen printers by making them better
able to satisfy print buyer demands.
