Mission Statement: Christ Lutheran Church
exists to “...continue to share the Good
News of Jesus Christ with members,
community & the world”.
WHEN CHOIR STARTS WITHOUT US…
by Joyce Kuhl
“My name is Roger Pamperin, and I approved this message.”
The choir has routinely taken a break during the summer months. The last time for us to sing this season will
be on May 4th, and next fall, the choir will kick off with a new Director and a new Accompanist. Roger Pamperin and I plan to turn over our respective volunteer positions to others to enjoy beginning next fall.
The Christ Lutheran Church choir has a long and rich history. Church records indicate there was a choir In
place at least as early as 1958, just four years after the Church was started. That’s 56 years of faithful singers
glorifying God with their voices. Records also show that Roger first directed the Choir in 1970, very shortly
after he and Janice arrived in Lubbock. There have been short periods of others directing the choir when his
work precluded active participation, but God always saw fit for him to return to the choir. Records of who
accompanied the choir weren’t readily available, but I think I began accompanying the choir in the late
1980s. As we finish active choir duties, we’ll leave behind about 45 and 25 years of active worship participation with the choir – some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling times of our lives. The organization has become a very close-knit group of fellowship and support in addition to singing. The numbers over the years
have varied from a low of about 8 people to the current roster of 38. Never a “performing” choir, the sole
objective has been to help the congregation worship our one true God. Most of the members are not trained
musicians but faithful Christians who want to use whatever talent God has given them to serve Him through
Christ Lutheran Church.
When we announced our plans, we received a specific request for a “final concert”. What a fun way for us to
enjoy some of our favorite anthems for the final time with such a great group of singers. Out of that idea,
we’ve assembled a trip through the Church year in music. The concert, titled “With a Voice of Singing”, is
scheduled for Sunday, May 4th, 4:00 PM, at the Church and a free-will offering will benefit two mission agencies – Lutheran Social Services of the South, and Texas Partners in Mission.

Foster Care/Adoption – We have 58 now which
is 2 below budget numbers. One case manager
quit but another has been hired and will begin at
the end of the month. An Easter Egg Hunt is being planned for the foster kids but still could use
some assistance to include biological children
too. Each kid will receive an Easter basket. The
book program went really well. We received a
grant for luggage for the kids. We still need some
foster homes for large sibling groups of 3 or more
children and special needs children. We will try to
have a swimming party in the summer and maybe
a play day at Joyland. We also would like to have
a foster parent appreciation day but need to get
approved child care. Trying to speak at the
churches during April and May.
Wedgewood South – At the end of the month,
we had 47 residents. Our census is growing. To
date: We have one small apartment available.
Inquiries and tours are increasing; we had a total
of 24. All referrals are welcome! Thank you.
Health for Friends – Our numbers jumped dramatically. There were 600 screened during the
month with the Lubbock Senior Center numbers
really going up. We have already spent $1880 in
three months which is over half of the total prescription money available. We now have 45 people on the glucose strip program. Seven glucometers were given. There were 15 persons
screened for the first time ever. We are getting
referrals.
Neighborhood House – Utility assistance was
distributed to 259 in March for a total of over
$65,000. At this rate the money will be used up
before summer really hits. Hopefully, there will
be another allocation near the beginning of summer. There were 374 households assisted for a
total value of over $75,000. At present, all hygiene supplies are in good shape.
