EASTER TRIDUUM
What, really, do the liturgies of the triduum celebrate? Most all of us believe we know the answer. We assume that
Thursday commemorates the day Jesus instituted the eucharist; Friday commemorates the day he was executed on the
cross; and the vigil commemorates his emergence from the tomb. We assume, further, that the liturgies of these days
are dramatic “reenactments” of events-by turns touching, tragic and triumphant-which happened during Jesus’ last days
and culminated in his victory over death. We assume , in other words, that the paschal triduum is simply springtime’s
parallel to winter's Christmas. As it gathers on these cays, the liturgical assembly is often thought to be engaged in acts
of historical “reconstruction” that recreate scenes in the “upper room,” on Calvary, and at the tomb. People are
encouraged to imagine they are “actually present” at these events—comforting Jesus during his fearful watch in
Gethsemane, walking with him along the via cruces, and witnessing his miraculous “return to life” on Easter morning.
This view may frequently be reinforced by popular hymns that focus on the “historical facts” of the celebration.

The Meaning of the Cross
What has the Cross left in each one of us? You see, it gives
us a treasure that no one else can give us: the certainty of the
faithful love which God has for us. A love so great that it enters
into our sin and forgives it, enters into our suffering and gives
us the strength to bear it. It is a love which enters into death to
conquer it and to save us.
Lord, you ask us to take up your cross and follow you. To do
that, we must first understand what your cross means for us.
Love is certain to involve suffering, and your suffering for us is
the highest expression of love. As we begin Holy Week, may
we keep our eyes on the cross and on your love for us. Amen.

The Easter Vigil in the Holy Night
We call this night “the most desired of the year.”
On this night, in sacramental mystery, God speaks
once again the command, “Let there be light.” And
once again there is light! On this night, so we claim,
Noah’s ark opens and the animals tumble out in glee.
The rainbow appears. The angel clasps Abraham’s
hand and beloved Isaac is spared. The slaves march
through the sea and toward freedom. Moses leads us
in son and Miriam leads us in joyful dance.
On such a night of wonders, of course this is the
night that the Father chose to raise his Son Jesus from
the dead. Tonight Christ is risen—not long ago and far
away, but tonight, here and now, here among us!
With our own eyes we give witness to the wonder of
the resurrection as the newly baptized go into the
water and are raised up—dead, buried and risen in
Christ.

Sunshine & Rainbows ELC is a Catholic

La Vigilia Pascual en la Noche Santa
Llamamos esta noche “la mas deseada del ano”. Esta
noche, en misterio sacramental, Dios de Nuevo ordena:
“Hágase la luz”. ¡Y una vez mas se hace la luz! Esta
noche, así lo creemos, el arca de Noé se abre y los
animales saltan gozosos. Aparece el arco iris. El ángel
agarra la mano de Abraham y su hijo querido es liberado
de la muerte. Los esclavos atraviesan el mar hacia la
libertad. Moisés nos guía cantando y Miriam nos
acompaña danzando gozosa.
Todo sucede esta noche maravillosa, porque es al noche
en que el Padre escogió a resucitar a su Hijo Jesús de
entere los muertos. En esta noche Cristo resucita—no
hace muchas edades ni desde lejos, pero en esta noche,
¡aquí y ahora, entre nosotros! Testificamos esta maravilla
que nuestros ojos perciben mientras los elegidos reciben
el agua bautismal y son resucitados por el brazo poderoso
de Dios—muertos, sepultados y resucitados en Cristo.

DOMINGO DE RAMOS
El Domingo de Ramos abre solemnemente la
Semana Santa, con el recuerdo de las Palmas y de la
pasión, de la entrada de Jesús en Jerusalén y la liturgia
de la palabra que evoca la Pasión del Señor en el
Evangelio de San Marcos. En este día, se entrecruzan
las dos tradiciones litúrgicas que han dado origen a esta
celebración: la alegre, multitudinaria, festiva liturgia de la
iglesia madre de la ciudad santa, que se convierte en
mimesis, imitación de los que Jesús hizo en Jerusalén, y
la austera memoria - anamnesis - de la pasión que
marcaba la liturgia de Roma. liturgia de Jerusalén y de
Roma, juntas en nuestra celebración. Con una evocación
que no puede dejar de ser actualizada.
Vamos con el pensamiento a Jerusalén, subimos
al Monte de los olivos para recalar en la capilla de
Betfagé, que nos recuerda el gesto de Jesús, gesto
profético, que entra como Rey pacífico, Mesías aclamado
primero y condenado después, para cumplir en todo las
profecías. Por un momento la gente revivió la esperanza
de tener ya consigo, de forma abierta y sin subterfugios
aquel que venía en el nombre del Señor. Al menos así lo
entendieron los más sencillos, los discípulos y gente que
acompañó a Jesús, como un Rey.
San Lucas no habla de olivos ni palmas, sino de
gente que iba alfombrando el camino con sus vestidos,
como se recibe a un Rey, gente que gritaba: "Bendito el
que viene como Rey en nombre del Señor. Paz en el
cielo y gloria en lo alto". Palabras con una extraña
evocación de las mismas que anunciaron el nacimiento
del Señor en Belén a los más humildes. Jerusalén, desde
el siglo IV, en el esplendor de su vida litúrgica celebraba
este momento con una procesión multitudinaria. Y la
cosa gustó tanto a los peregrinos que occidente dejó
plasmada en esta procesión de ramos una de las más
bellas celebraciones de la Semana Santa.
Con la liturgia de Roma, por otro lado, entramos
en la Pasión y anticipamos la proclamación del misterio,
con un gran contraste entre el camino triunfante del
Cristo del Domingo de Ramos y el Viacrucis de los días
santos. Sin embargo, son las últimas palabras de Jesús
en el madero la nueva semilla que debe empujar el remo
evangelizador de la Iglesia en el mundo.
"Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi
espíritu". Este es el evangelio, esta la nueva noticia, el
contenido de la nueva evangelización. Desde una
paradoja este mundo que parece tan autónomo, necesita
que se le anuncie el misterio de la debilidad de nuestro
Dios en la que se demuestra el culmen de su amor.
Como lo anunciaron los primeros cristianos con estas
narraciones largas y detallistas de la pasión de Jesús.
Era el anuncio del amor de un Dios que baja con
nosotros hasta el abismo de lo que no tiene sentido, del
pecado y de la muerte, del absurdo grito de Jesús en su
abandono y en su confianza extrema. Era un anuncio al
mundo pagano tanto más realista cuanto con él se podía
medir la fuerza de la Resurrección.
La liturgia de las palmas anticipa en este
domingo, llamado pascua florida, el triunfo de la
resurrección; mientras que la lectura de la Pasión nos
invita a entrar conscientemente en la Semana Santa de
la Pasión gloriosa y amorosa de Cristo el Señor.

para Semana Santa
Por la mañana
Aquí estoy... "Aquí estoy, oh Dios, para hacer tu voluntad". En un borriquillo viene, cabalgando victorioso por la
verdad y la justicia. Se dirige hacia su Pasión, para llevar a plenitud el misterio de la salvación de los hombres.
Humilde y pobre entra en la ciudad; manso y cercano. Él no grita, los que le reciben sí. Salen a su encuentro, lo
aclaman como Rey y Mesías; pero lo suyo es el silencio, la sencillez y la entrega. Podemos correr también nosotros,
primero a por nuestro ramo de olivo, después para arropar a este modesto Jesús con el más firme y limpio propósito de
acompañarle hasta el final, hasta donde Él va a llegar para salvarnos.
Subamos con Él a esa montaña, desnudos como Él, para que pueda lavarnos con su sangre y vestirnos con su gracia.
"Bendito el que viene, como rey, en nombre del Señor". Vencedor de la muerte y del mal,
condúcenos a los que en ti creemos, esperamos y amamos a tu gloriosa resurrección. Convierte
el madero de nuestro dolor en árbol de vida.
Porque... no he de morir, viviré para contar las hazañas del Señor y
cantar al triunfador de la muerte.

los suyos, los amó hasta el extremo ". Das tu vida por las ovejas, nosotros, que cuando te
veamos herido, huiremos y nos dispersaremos. Soportas nuestros sufrimientos; aguantas nuestras rebeldías. Y las autoridades al final, aunque no encontrarán en ti nada que merezca la
muerte, le pedirán a Pilato que te mande ejecutar.
Te adoramos, oh Cristo, y te bendecimos, porque con tu cruz has redimido al mundo.
Redentor nuestro, Cordero manso, tu sangre nos ha purificado. Unidos ahora a tu Pasión,
Queremos animar, confortar y consolar, como Tú, a los atribulados con el mismo consuelo y con idéntica paz con los
que Tú nos animas, confortas y consuelas a nosotros. Y hacer y realizar siempre esa tarea con los débiles, abatidos,
condenados, sencillos y pequeños.
Enséña nos a ser obedientes y a tener paciencia en todo lo que nos pase en la vida. Que tu amor inunde nuestra tierra y
cubra sus heridas.
Ábrenos de par en par la puerta de tu costado, para que el río de la Vida nos arrastre y nos devuelva al regazo de Dios, y
