Enriching beyond technology lectures - Breakout sessions - A Hit
Main Hall Chairmen: Mr Deepak Mathur, Dr KK Saxena hosted the session. Mr Anand Khote, Bayer Material Science, took us on a wonderful journey into the Polyurethane Coatings. He
further said: Why polyurethane Coatings? The processing time is much shorter with increased efficiency better weathering resistance in refinish application is some of the reasons for the
increasing use of PU coatings. PU use in coatings gives improvement of weather, scratch and chemical resistances. PU use in Interiors is close to 80%. He
also made a comparison between PU coatings against alternate technologies. There is a large opportunity for PU Coatings in Transportation. 22% with PU.
Opportunities in general industrial and protective coatings . Even in residential like large hotels, commercial establishments clubs. It's use in
flooring systems, wood coatings is growing. The modern PU coating concepts are in high solid systems, water borne coatings and also in UV
coating systems, he added.
Chairmen: Mr Sunil Kumar and Mr G K Patel. Speaking about the changing trends in emulsions
for coatings, Mr T P Ramachandran said green emulsions are the current trend in the industry
which are APEO & odor free with low VOC; non hazardous, non toxic; good film formation at RT;
high gloss, elasticity, hardness and with good
P resistance. He then spoke about the different emulsions and their advantages; qualities of a good binders for coating like high performance,
reduced cost, better productivity and good quality etc. He spoke about the water based emulsion polymers in general, the raw materials used,
different types of emulsions and properties required for good emulsion for coatings. The emerging trends in emulsion industry to meet
environmental challenges through APEO, ammonia and formaldehyde free emulsions and the beneficial effects of such emulsions to make a

Good Breakout sessions
I
was a little
apprehensive while
planning the
breakout sessions.
Will this work well
with our Parivar? Or Deepak Doshi
will the delegates kill me with
criticisms? But now I am relieved
and overjoyed to know that the
Breakout session concept has
been applauded and equally
responded by the delegates. In
deference to the efforts put in by
the speakers for their presentation
I would request the delegates to be
at the convention halls on time to
also avoid the delay in lunch and
dinner timings.I have also got a
positive response for the entire
conceptualisation of the program.
The backdrops were particularly
wonderful, they commented. And
the innovative fillers and the
decorative stage step was also
good.
Chairmen: G K Loyalka and Mr Narayan Kutty. Mr S Thirumalai and Ms Anshu Khanna, Deloite
gave an elaborate presentation on this topic. Mr Thrumalai started out by giving a gist of GST and
the India Proposition. He then discussed about the features of proposed structure. Later he gave
a detailed comparison of the Current Tax Structure & GST and discussed its impact on industry.
He later presented a checklist and asked the delegates to get ready for the change Marketing
Management
Chairmen: Mr Ballal Chandrachud and Mr Puran Singh. The next lecture in this hall was on
Marketing Management for Small Medium Enterprises which was given by Ms Hema Jain.
Customer is the King. Caoncentrate on him and you will hit the jackpot, she opined. The last
lecture in this hall was on Work Life Balance by Mr K R Raghavan. The Chairmen were: Mr
Rajendra Rathi and Mr A S Gandotra. Mr Raghavan said that Work Life Balance is an area that is
of great concern in today's fast paced and highly competitive professional environment. The
working population is becoming unhealthy at a very young age due to the lack of this balance, he
said. He gave a seven step key points to achieve this balance and concluded by saying “the
choice is yours—decide before it is too late”.

protective coatings where durability is a major concern. With
years of experiences that the company has acquired through
these industries they have developed products for use in
decorative segments where performance does matter.
The main application is in marine and industrial PC and some
in Decorative paints. She also gave a comparison of test paint
formulations vis a vis other soft mineral products in both
exterior and household paints mainly in terms of weather
ability, dispersant demand, gloss retention, stain & abrasion
resistance and colour development. These particles create a
rigid packaging network to produce coatings with abrasion
properties for better stain and burnish resistance, she said.
Chairmen: Om Prakash Madhogaria and Mr Manmohan
Kedia. Mr Nikesh Pathare, BYK spoke on 'Greenability' which
means achieving 'green' goals together. Mr Pathare further
said Green requirements include low VOC content, renewable
