HIS TORY
In 1881, at the age of 24, Fayette L. Rounds
became the passenger and express agent
or the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western
Railroad’s station at Vestal, a position he
held for nearly 25 years. The Vestal station
supplied tenders with anthracite coal from
the tipple, or silos, located along a large
wooden trestle behind the depot.

Fayette bought the coal business from the
railroad and opened the F.L. Rounds Coal
Company which grew to be one of the
largest suppliers in the region. He soon
hired architect C.A. Olmstead to design the
unique building which was constructed in
1908 and located on Main Street in Vestal.
