Each weight class consists of 33 wrestlers with the top 12 being seeded in each bracket. All three Wolverines will enter the
tournament unseeded.
The trio of Wolverines were each ranked in the final NCAA
Coaches’ Panel that came out just after regular season concluded. Rauser came in at 20th in his weight class while Wilson
was 21st and Fager was 33rd. Both Rauser and Wilson are
also ranked in the latest InterMat rankings as Rauser is 16th

WOLVERINE WRESTLING
Rauser received a tough draw and will open his first national tournament against the two-seed and former AllAmerican from Illinois Jesse Delgado (21-3), while Wilson
will take on the one-time All-American from Oklahoma
Nick Lester (16-1) in his opener and Fager will begin in
the pigtail round against Iowa State’s Matt Gibson (17-9).
Thursday’s opening session will get underway at 10 a.m.
MT and can be seen on ESPN3.com. The second session
will then begin that night 5:30 p.m. MT. Live results can also
be followed throughout the tournament by visiting TrackWrestling.com.
The three Wolverine wrestlers headed to this year’s NCAA
Championships will now give Utah Valley 10 all-time
NCAA qualifiers after UVU had three qualify for it in its
inaugural year of being eligible for postseason competition at the Division I level (2009-10), three more the following year (2010-11) and one last season (2011-12).
UVU has previously produced one All-American wrestler
in the past as former 125-pounder Benjamin Kjar placed
fourth at Nationals in 2011.
Jade, Josh & Adam Ranked in Coaches Poll
Jade Rauser (125), Josh Wilson (149) and Adam Fager (285) were all ranked in the final NCAA Coaches’
Panel that came out on Feb. 28. Jade came in at 20th,
while Wilson was 21st and Fager was 33rd. The trio
were also all ranked on the NCAA’s final RPI as well as
Abner Cook (165) and David Prieto (197). Jade came
in at 13th in the final RPI, while Wilson was 23rd, Fager
was 25th and Cook and Prieto were both 32nd. The
final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of
the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the
2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
Rauser and Wilson Ranked on InterMat Poll
Jade Rauser is currently rakned 16th at 125 pounds
by InterMat while Josh Wilson is 20th at 149. Rauser
jumped into the rankings after upsetting Air Force’s Josh
Martinez -- who was ranked eighth at the time -- on
Feb. 16 while Wilson came in after defeating No. 3
Cole VonOhlen by medical forfeit in the title bout of the
NCAA West Regional.
Wilson’s Second Straight Trip to NCAAs
Senior 149-pounder will make his second straight trip
to the NCAA Championships this weekend after he went
2-2 at same tournament a year ago. Fellow UVU wrestlers Jade Rauser (125) and Adam Fager (HWT) will be
making their first appearances.

the medal rounds (5 in the finals & 5 in the 3rd-place
bouts) to help them place third. UVU finished with 70
points, just nine back of the winner Wyoming (79). North
Dakota State placed second with 76 points.

The University of Wyoming will host this year’s WWC
Championships/NCAA West Regional in Laramie, Wyo.,
on March 9 but next year it will be UVU’s turn to host the
conference championships for the first time. The event will
James Warnick
be held in the UCCU Center on the campus of Utah Valley
University and will be sometime in early to mid March of
2014. There, berths to the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be on the line.

Coach Greg Williams, who is in his seventh season at the
head of the Utah Valley University wrestling program,
recorded his 50th career victory on Jan. 26 over WWC
foe Northern Colorado. Williams currently holds a career
record of 53-47 in seven season at UVU and he is also 1520 all-time in Western Wrestling Conference action.
W ilson Pl a c es 8th a t Mi dl a n ds
Senior 149-pounder Josh Wilson led UVU at the prestigious Midlands Championship hosted by Northwestern
University on Dec. 29-30 by placing eighth. The placement
for Wilson at the top-notch tournament was his second in as
many years after he finished sixth at the same tournament
a year ago. After going 4-1 on day one of the tourney,
Wilson finished with a 5-3 record at Midlands that included a win over 16th-ranked David Habat of Edinboro.
J ade Rau s er Pl a c es a t C K LV I n v i te Redshirt freshman Jade Rauser (125 pounds) led UVU
at the 31st annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational by
placing eighth at the stacked tournament. Rauser probably would have finished higher but became very ill
and after securing a placement finish was pulled from
competition and suffered a forfeit in his last two matches, which resulted in the eighth-place finish. During his
tournament run, he defeated the three-seed and 13thranked Sean Boyle from Michigan to advance to the
quarterfinals.
Two S ets o f Tw i n s It’s rare enough to have one set of twins on a collegiate roster but the UVU wrestling team has two. Both Jade and Val
Rauser and Chase and Kyle Cuthbertson are twin brothers.
All four the of UVU grapplers are redshirt freshmen as
well after they all redshirted last season. Jade and Val are
from Townsend, Mont. (Broadwater HS) while Chase and
Kyle are from Scottsboro, Ala. (Scottsboro HS).

For four consecutive years the UVU wrestling team has
been recognized by the NWCA (National Wrestling
Coaches Association) for finishing in the Top 10 on the Division I All-Academic Top 30 Team.
Last season UVU placed fourth with a 3.27 team GPA. The
fourth-place team finish is the highest that UVU has ever
had after it finished sixth in 2008-09 with a 3.16, ninth in
2010-11 with a 3.13, and ninth again in 2009-10 with a
3.18 GPA.
UVU senior 149-pounder Josh Wilson was also recognized
to the NWCA Individual All-Academic team as he held a
3.62 GPA in accounting. Wilson was also the Wolverines’
lone NCAA Qualifier this past season and went 2-2 at the
2012 NCAA Championships.

20 1 2 - 1 3 U V U S e as on Previ ew
The 2012-13 Utah Valley University wrestling team will begin its season Thursday at 7 p.m. in the PE Building with the annual UVU Intrasquad Dual. The contest will be free of charge and will be a good
opportunity for fans to get an early look at the young and talented
Wolverine squad.
“This season will be kind of an unknown for us as we are very young,”
said seventh year head coach Greg Williams. “Most of our freshmen
are redshirt freshmen however and have a year of experience under
their belt but they haven’t really faced tough competition yet. The
question is: how well will the first year starters do in Las Vegas (Cliff
Keen Las Vegas Invitational) or at Midlands (Championships).”
Besides having 11 freshmen on the roster this season, UVU also mixes
in 10 sophomores, four juniors and two seniors. One of the two seniors
is returning NCAA Qualifier Josh Wilson (149 pounds). Wilson, who is
ranked 18th in the preseason InterMat poll, wrestled at his first NCAA
Championships last season in St. Louis, Mo., and will look to help lead
his young teammates
this year.
In all UVU has 27 grapplers on its roster, which includes 12 returning
letterwinners and eight returning starters from last years team that
went 6-10 overall and 1-5 in Western Wrestling Conference duals.
“We’ve never had this much talent in the room before,” Williams said.
“The program is progressing and we’re very pleased with the direction
that it is going.”
After the intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday, the Wolverines will hit the
road and travel to Laramie, Wyo., to take part in the Cowboy Open
at the University of Wyoming on Saturday. ¬The Wolverines will then
travel to North Carolina the following week, Nov. 10-11, to take on
