GLOBAL INSPIRATIONS
GLOBAL DESIGNS
> the story
We scour the world looking for the right manufacturers and artisans whose specific skills help
us realize our diverse designs. We can think of no better way for us to add an ever-increasing
number of unique and eclectic pieces to our collections—and to your homes. To help us with
this, we partner with nonprofits like Aid to Artisans and Craftmark, and we make the support
of artisanal communities one of our top priorities.

Graphic Prints
for the Bed
> the story
As temperatures start to fall and our cocooning instincts kick in, autumn’s the time
to layer the bed with rich colors and fluffy duvets. For our newest signature printed
shams and duvet covers—many of them made of 100% certified-organic cotton—we
found inspiration in everything from elaborate antique trellises, wrought-iron scrolls on
Brooklyn brownstones and vintage fabrics unearthed in pattern books and thrift stores.

> the story
The season’s deep inky tones remind us of clear night skies under autumn’s first harvest
moon and the calm surfaces of lakes and ponds during its crisp early days. We especially
love these hues in accents—stripes on a vase, tonal abstract petals on a plate—where they
work in vibrating contrast to fall’s cool grays and silvers plus its warmer ivories and whites.

ANIMAL INSTINCTS
> the story
From the wild to the tamed, the animal kingdom makes its mark on our latest
collections. Some pieces—dog pillows, plus horse plates and bookends—lend the
home a bit of wit and whimsy, which feels just right as we move ourselves back
indoors. Others—horned African beasts in papier-mâché and butterfly-painted
plates—add a healthy dose of the wild to our domestic lives.

Leather Upholstered
Furniture
> the story
Leather’s long been overdue for a refresh. And our new collections—including
Chester, a reinterpretation of the classic tufted library sofa; and Everett, a comfy
mid-century mod-inspired chair and ottoman—definitely take the material in a
new direction. Covered in top-grain hides (the best kind), they trade leather’s
fuddy-duddy professorial image for a relaxed, clubby look, all in a neutral go-anywhere palette of elephant, nutmeg, chocolate and snow.
SAY HI TO CHESTER Let yourself sink into Chester,
our laid-back, low-slung, square-armed reboot of
the classic tufted library sofa. Modern Chester

NATURAL wonders
> the story
When cooler temperatures drive us indoors, it’s only natural to bring souvenirs from
the outdoors back inside with us. This fall, we’re getting cozy with a whole host of
earthy materials, organic shapes and all the elements we need to help us cultivate
tiny touches of greenery right in our very own living rooms.

at home there. Our collections continue to expand, with the kinds of basic tools,
accessories and gifts you want for casual cooking and entertaining with friends.
We’re setting the scene for you to gather around the stove and nibble on light
snacks while you stir and chop, mix and mingle.

Redefining the
Home Office
> the story
Business or pleasure? How about both. Our new home office collection—including four
new desks, a printer cart, bookshelves and an entire assortment of organizational odds
and ends—blurs the line between work and play. As well it should. We may work from
home, but that doesn’t mean being at home should feel like work.

OUR FALL 2011
COLLABORATIONS
If our past design collaborations have taught us one thing, it’s that two heads
really are better—not to mention way more fun—than one. Some of our best and
brightest products have come out of these super-fruitful partnerships, and now
we couldn’t imagine a season without carefully chosen collaborators by our side.
With this in mind, we sought out five perfect partners for this season, discovering
like-minded creative types everywhere from Brooklyn to Delhi to London.

Rugs, pillows + textiles in organic geometrics
> about
Known the world over for her signature fabrics and contemporary kaftans (sold at high-end
retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Harvey Nichols), Italian-born fashion and textiles designer
Allegra Hicks shares our casual, eclectic aesthetic and our passion for playful prints. The rugs,
pillows, window panels, upholstered furniture and fabrics she created for us perfectly express
her relaxed, bohemian style—and, just as we expected, our style, too. We’re quite a pair. For

Ready-to-hang prints + frames from the democratizing online art gallery
> about
In the spirit of its founder Jen Bekman’s art-for-everyone concept, we partnered with this
digital destination for contemporary art to reproduce 10 framed prints and photos by five of
our favorite 20x200 artists, plus a line of gallery frames to fit the works sold on the site itself.
Encouraging everyone to be a collector, 20x200 releases two new works a week in various
sizes, all starting at $20. This genius concept has earned Jen the attention of Art in America,
The New York Times, the Today show and even The Economist!

> about
After meeting and become fast friends in Delhi, we asked the creative minds behind the avantgarde Indian fashion label Abraham + Thakore—whose work has been exhibited in London’s
Victoria & Albert Museum and appeared in the pages of haute couture magazines around the
world—to design a trio of pillow covers that shows off its witty, whimsical and wonderful take
on classic Indian crafts and tailored details. Case in point: their graphic contemporary blackand-white embroidery, which reimagines tradition to make something entirely new. For more

SARAH CIHAT
Equine plates + bowls inspired by the artist’s rehabilitated dishware
> about
Brooklyn’s own Sarah Cihat broke out on the design scene in a big way in 2003, when she exhibited her
“rehabilitated dishware” at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, a key industry marketplace.
For that project, she gave new life to vintage plates, reglazing them with graphic and whimsical silhouettes of a variety of animals. And now, she’s applied that brilliant aesthetic to a trio of plates and bowls
just for us, emblazoning each with an image of a trusty steed. For more on Sarah, see sarahcihat.com.

SCOTT LIFSHUTZ
A pet portraitist’s watercolors on pillows + feather paintings in frames
> about
We first saw Scott Lifshutz’s work at an art opening in a veterinarian’s office and his unique
ability to capture a pet’s personality in just a few brushstrokes has also landed him in
magazines (Vogue, Elle Décor) and with major gigs with big corporations (Nike, Microsoft).
We’re especially proud to now be reproducing the dog, horse and feather paintings he
made just for us. The animals are printed on cotton pillow covers, while the feathers have
become framed wall art. For more on Scott, see scottlifshutz.com.
