Principal’s Report
The Big Flood
Students in Grade 5/6B were surprised when they got to school on Monday and
discovered that their room had been flooded! It seems over the weekend that a
component in a pipe in the roof froze and then split and water flowed in through
the air conditioning unit. The carpet and ceiling were both very wet, but thankfully
there was not too much damage to other property. 5/6B relocated to the library on
Monday and a temporary classroom was set up at the north end of the BER
building for the rest of the week. Hopefully they’ll be able to go back into their
room next week.
Book Week
We are busily planning activities for Book Week which will be held from the 18th
to the 22nd of August. This year we will be having a dress up parade on the Friday
morning. It will be followed by a book reading activity in each classroom. Parents
or a VIP are invited to come along to the parade and stay for the book reading.
Awards will be given for best book character (costume) from each grade.
Festivities begin at 9am.
Mud
With the inclement weather lately it has been quite muddy on the oval. Often
teachers will ask students not to play in the muddy areas and occasionally we close
off areas completely due to the mud. However, students are encouraged to take
responsibility for where they play and if they are getting too muddy, to choose
other play areas such as the basketball/netball courts or on the other ‘hard surface’
areas. If a child accidentally falls in a puddle we have a limited amount of spare
clothes for them to change into (particularly for the younger ones). If your child
comes home in some borrowed clothing, please wash and return to school as soon
as practicable.

postpone the order to the following week provided you notify the school office
before 11am on the Friday that your child is absent and has a lunch order. If your
child has an order postponed and is still away the next Friday you also need to
notify the office and it can be postponed again for another week.

KidsMatter Team
The KidsMatter team is all about helping kids that are having a
rough time at school, making Drouin South Primary School a
happy and safe place.
The kids that are in the KidsMatter team have been getting
taught to be upstanders and help kids in our school make good
choices.
The KidsMatter team has read ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?’
with all students. This book is about making good choices that
make ourselves and others feel happy (filling someone’s bucket)
and what we can do if someone’s invisible bucket is not full. We
have also performed plays in front of the grades to teach them
about what you need to do in case you see someone bullying
and what a bully is.
We have had such a good year with the KidsMatter program and
we hope it is going to continue throughout the school years.
Teachers have also had training in the KidsMatter program.
Thank you to all of the upstanders that have helped children be
safe at Drouin South Primary School.
Thank you to all of the students, teachers and parents.
