Thank you for a successful Holiday Party
:: [email protected]
The North Fulton Bar Association hosted its Annual Holiday
Party on December 11th at the Roswell River Landing. It
was a wonderful evening of music, heavy hors d'oeuvres
and holiday cheer. A huge THANK YOU goes out to our
membership who donated dozens of toys for donation to

North Fulton Bar Association Membership Directory
As you all know, we are now working on the 2009-10
North Fulton Bar Association Membership Directory. Once
again, Nationwide Focused Publications and Richard Burg
will be working with us. NFP is the same firm that handles
advertising for the State Bar of Georgia's ANNUAL
Membership Directory, The Georgia Bar Journal Magazine
and the DeKalb Bar Association Membership Directory. As
a result, Members, Member Firms and Vendors will be able
to purchase very affordable ad placements that will assist
in deferring the cost of the Directory. Attached is a rate &
reservation schedule along with sample ads. For as little as
$150.00 you can lend your support to the Directory effort
while making your unique area of law (e.g., immigration or
tax law) or area of practice (e.g., Guardian ad Litem and
mediation services) known and available to all of the other
members. Cover positions are also available. Please feel
free to pass this information on to Vendors that you think
would be interested in reaching our dynamic Membership
base. Click here for Details. Space is limited so make your
reservation as soon as possible. You can reach them at
770.978.6297. In the meantime, if you have any questions
regarding this venture, please do not hesitate to contact
Forrest Clinard, [email protected], (770) 392-3416.
Thanks!

2009 President's Award
The North Fulton Bar Association will be awarding the
2009 President's Award to two outstanding local nonprofit organizations, the Child Development Association
and North Fulton Community Charrities.
The Child Development Association
The Child Development Association provides affordable
childcare and early learning programs for preschool
children of low-income families in the metro Atlanta area.
The CDA prepares disadvantaged children for success in
education and life. And, our child-care services enable
hardworking parents to maintain full-time employment to
support their families. It is a vibrant nonprofit organization
with forty years of outstanding service to low-income,
hard- working families and their young children. For four
decades, busy hands and generous spirits have enabled us
to serve our community's needs through generous
donations of time and money. Individuals, as well as civic
organizations, businesses and churches sustain us through
their charitable, tax- deductible contributions. For more
information, please visit www.cdakids.org .
Greater North Fulton Community Charities
The mission of North Fulton Community Charities is to
prevent homelessness in North Fulton by supporting
families in their homes during short-term emergencies. By
pooling the resources of local religious, business, and civic
groups and individuals, NFCC assists families with rent,
utilities, transportation, food, clothing, medicine, and other
basic needs. NFCC also coordinates special assistance to
families during the holidays and matches volunteers with
projects. During 2007 NFCC provided assistance to 4,201
local families. Each family's need was different due to: a
lost job, an injury or illness that prevented work, a failed
marriage, domestic violence, a new baby and no
insurance, car trouble, toothaches, and day care problems.
Some families required assistance off and on throughout
the year, others only once or twice. In 2007 NFCC helped
with $706,825 in rent, utilities, medicine, and other basic
needs and gave out food to over 80 families every day.
The need continues to grow faster than our resources. For
more information, please visit www.nfcchelp.org .

Public Relations for the Legal Profession
While it may come as something of a shock to many of
you, legal professionals (specifically lawyers) do not
always enjoy the most sterling reputation in the
community at large. You may have even heard a "lawyer
joke" or two.
In an effort to correct the inaccurate assumptions that
some members of the public persist in maintaining, the
Georgia Bar has made redressing this problem a priority.
The project has been dubbed the "Cornerstones of
Freedom®." Its mission is to educate the public
regarding our judicial system (specifically, its role in
preserving our Democracy) and to "restore public
confidence" in the judicial system and the legal
profession.
The NFBA has made it a priority to do its part to assist in
this important cause. The NFBA Directors have already
identified several areas where we can help; however, if
you have suggestions as to how we can improve the
image of the legal profession, please contact Committee
Chair, Tamar Faulhaber at 404- 846-2001or
[email protected].

Alpharetta High School Mock Trial Team Volunteers
Needed
The Alpharetta High School mock trial team teacher
sponsors and the Georgia High School Mock Trial Program
are looking for attorneys to volunteer as team coaches.
Each high school team participates in organized mock
trial competitions, and their members will likely be
tomorrow's trial lawyers...
Ideally, volunteers will commit one hour each week
during the afterschool periods and at the occasional
Saturday competition; the more volunteers, the less the
time commitment. However, occasional assistance would
also be appreciated.
This is a great opportunity to work with our young
people, bring good will to our profession, network your
own skills, and give back to our community.
Please contact NFBA Board Member Tom Salata at (770)

with the NFBA membership. This is one of the most lowkey meetings of the year, so please plan to loosen your
tie and join us for a fun evening.

Announcement from
The North Fulton Bar Association
(This Time With a Link to
The Nomination Form)
November 11, 2009
Dear Joseph,
Justice Robert
Benham Awards for
Community Service
::
[email protected]
Dear Local Bar Presidents and Members,
Despite the challenges of these times, many members of
the bar are not only continuing to engage in community
and public service, they are increasing their service to
meet the needs of their communities around our state. As
we have done for the last decade, the State Bar of
Georgia in partnership with the Chief Justice's
Commission on Professionalism will honor members of
the bench and bar for their service to the community at a
special ceremony in their honor on February 16, 2010 at
the Georgia Bar Center.
While this ceremony and the awards can't possibly match
the many contributions of our colleagues, it is our way to
not only show the bar's appreciation to them but to
showcase to the public we serve that judges and lawyers
give so much of their time and talents outside of their
official and professional duties to make a difference in
their communities.
Won't you take a few minutes and nominate a deserving
judge or attorney? And, won't you share this message
with your partners, colleagues and co- workers and
encourage them to also submit nominations?
Please note that we have extended the deadline for
receipt of nominations for the 11th Annual Justice Robert
Benham Awards for Community Service to Friday,
November 20, 2009. A nomination form is attached which
includes the requirements for the award.
Thank you for your assistance and for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism

representation to victims of intimate partner
violence/stalking who are seeking civil Temporary
Protective Orders ("TPO") in Fulton County Superior

Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation - Case
Referals
Jennifer Stolarski at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers
Foundation has requested some help from those lawyers
with the appropriate training and experience to take on a
few Domestic Violence cases. Evidently, these folks are
seeking TPO's and need some assistance.
Below are summaries of cases that the AVLF currently
has available for placement.
Hearing Date: Mon, December 7, 2009
P = Petitioner R = Respondent
CASE #1 (R.G.) married, living together, 1 5-yr old son
together, 11/16 R put computer monitor in truck, P
retrieved it, R grabbed her arm causing large bruise, put
Pin choke hold to try to make her let go of the computer
monitor. Police were called & they made him leave. 6/09
R kicked the family dog & threatened to shoot the dog. R
later brought dog to shelter where he was euthenized.
CASE #2 (S.M.) P & R used to live together. P has 4 kids
ages 13-6; the 6 yr old is R's (no legitimation). On 11/15
R saidd he would hit P in her mouth & that when she
goes to pick up the 6yr old from relatives he will be there
and she had better bring protection or he would kill her
(all of this via text). On 11/08 R was released from prison
for assaulting another woman w/a gun (did 5 yrs).
Calls/texts with threats to P appx every 10 days or so threats to beat her up or kill her. Repeatedly says he will
shoot the house up. He physically abused her before he
went to prison by pushing, hitting, throwing P on the
ground, even raping P. R has stabbed P in the leg, too.
CASE #3 (S.W.) P&R not married, not living together,
one 4-yr old together, no legitimation. On 11/19 R
repeatedly hit P on her head and across her face in front
of minor child. Bitter because of their breakup, R refuses
to leave P alone, comes to Ps house
unannounced/uninvited at odd hours, calls constantly,
tries to force P to be affectionate with him and holds her
against her will, and even sits in Ps driveway waiting.
Hearing Date: Friday, December 11, 2009
P = Petitioner R = Respondent
CASE #1 (S.J.) P&R not married; 1 child together, no
legitimation. 11/13 R set Ps apt on fire & admitted it via
voicemail messages, threatened to kill P and her mother
and himself. 11/12 R kicked Ps door in, broke Ps minor
child's window w/a brick. P called police. 10/30 R choked
P, dragged her across the floor by her hair, placed her in
the trunk of her car, used a knife to slash Ps wall.
CASE #2 (T.W.) P&R married but living separate; no
children together - P has 3 of her own; 11/13 R
threatened P's life & burned her personal property in the
front yard of her home. R physically accosted other
relatives in the home. R carried a hammer outside of the
home & struck the door and window in anger. In the past
R has threatened suicide and threatened to burn the
home down w/P and children in it and has damaged other
property belonging to P.
CASE #3 (K.K.) P&R live together; not married; no
children together; P has one 4-yr old. On 11/14 R
punched P in the face in front of the child, child got upset
and started hitting R, R pushed the child to the side,
picked up the TV & threw it to the ground, left and came
bk to the apt w/drugs. Makes verbal/terroristic threats to
hurt P and her friends.
CASE #4 (C.F.) P&R not married; not living together; one
6-yr old child together, no legitimation. On 11/7 R
pushed & slapped P as she prevented him from taking
minor child from dance recital; R followed P home &
parked at gas station, R attempted to "kidnap" (per police
report) minor from school.
CASE #5 (L.A.S.) P&R used to live together; no children.
P has repeatedly asked R to discontinue any contact with
her. On 11/19, R waited for P outside of her job, pulled
out in front of her, blocked Ps exit and began
interrogating her as to her unresponsiveness to his
advances. R previously blocked P into a gas station and
wouldn't allow her to leave for 1.5hrs. R constantly
follows P, calls, leaves messages, contacts Ps parents
pleading for them to persuade P to take him back.
CASE #6 (L.C.) P&R used to live together. 11/15 R
twisted Ps arm attempting to break it, pulled her fingers
back resulting in bruised hand, slung P to the floor,
grabbed her by the neck, pulled legs up above her head
trying to break them.
CASE #7 (S.S.) P&R live together; one 7-week old child
together; no legitimation. On 11/16 R held the 7-week
old hostage and wouldn't give the baby back to P, took Ps
cellphone and refused to return it and when P managed
to get her phone back, R chased her down on foot. R has
previously threatened, slapped, pushed, and kicked P and
held P against her will.
