considering the environmental impact of our actions,
behaving justly and ethically in all dealings,

Summer Meltdown is hosted by Terra Roots, a 501©3 charitable arts
nonprofit. Our mission is to build and support community through arts.
We love seeing the positive energy of everyone at Meltdown make
some incredible things happen.
This is not an event put on by a small group of people, it’s an amazing
moment in time created by the efforts of several thousand. You are all
part of it and we are thankful for your contributions.
Speaking of contributions … as a non-profit, financial support and
community participation are critical to our development and success.
Please consider making a financial donation to our organization using

keepin’ it green md11 style
Each year we work at making Meltdown greener and greener. Because we
should and we can. We feel a responsibility to address all the impacts that our
event has. The environmental impacts of large gatherings are easy to see, and
with a little elbow grease and dedicated effort, easy to lessen.
FOR FUN
Here are some ways that we continue to work at lightening our load on Mother
Earth. We hope that you will feel a responsibility as a participant to educate
yourself and take part in making a difference.
We Reduce.
MDX KIDS
We thought about the things that generate the most waste at festivals,
and about what we can we do to reduce that waste. This year, we’ve built
two public water stations for your bottle-refilling pleasure. Get yourself an
awesome new Summer Meltdown stainless water bottle to help you stay
hydrated without every drink generating waste.
SCHEDULE
Visit the Terra Roots booth to check out how much plastic bag waste is
created each year by the average grocery shopper. Chicobag Re-pete shopping
bags and water bottle slings are made from recycled PET bottles and plastic
shopping bags. Purchase of these bags directly supports the Terra Roots
mission and you can opt to customize your new bag with a summer meltdown
silk screening at the INNATE booth in the Green Village.
We Reuse!
You can help too!
Consider for a moment the environmental cost of your travel to the festival. Now
multiply that by 4,000! For insight on Summer Meltdown’s carbon footprint,
One Energy Renewables is helping us gather data on the festival. Please help
us by completing the survey you received at check-in (or picking one up at the
info booth). Your results will be tallied and help us determine positive plans of
action. Please return completed surveys to the Terra Roots table in the Green
Village, or to the Info Booth and be rewarded with meltdown stickers and entry
to win 2011 tickets in The MDX Evergreen Ticket Giveaway.
Browse the program carefully for lots more insight on all the small ways we
work to keep Summer Meltdown the evergreen festival you love! Do your part
first and foremost by setting an example. If it weren’t for all of you, we wouldn’t
be able to make such a difference! Keep on keepin’ it green Meltdown!
6TH ANNUAL SUMMER MELTDOWN
FOOD DRIVE - Dry and canned goods are
being accepted at the Terra Roots table
in the Green Village to be donated to the
Darrington Food Bank. In exchange for your

We’re powered by alternative energy
Summer Meltdown would like to
extend a huge thank you to Waste
Management for their generous
donation and years of support. Their
contributions have greatly helped our
efforts to reduce our carbon footprint
and lower our Landfill Diversion Rate.
MDX INFO
Meltdown is fortunate to have the best green crew any fest could ever ask
for! Every year our recycling and composting efforts result in less and less
waste being sent to the landfill. In 2010, we hauled away only half the amount
of garbage we hauled in 2007. This year we are working with ZeroHero to
hit 80% Zero Waste! This means diverting as much as 8 tons of waste into
recycling and compost. Help us with our efforts by paying attention at the
recycling stations, and considering how much personal garbage you are
generating. Empty containers of any liquid before tossing them, and please
keep all paper and food scraps separate for composting.
WELCOME
We Recycle, Recycle, Recycle . . . and compost too!
ARTIST BIOS
We’re proud to use real dishes in our hospitality and volunteer kitchens and all
of our food vendors use compostable dishes, cups, and silverware. Thanks to
Deschutes Brewery, we are also using compostable cups in our beer garden.
Compostable items help divert garbage from the waste stream, but there is
still a manufacturing process behind each one-use cup, as well as some good
old fashioned controversy about the plant material and its farming processes.
We believe the best answer is using and re-using your own dishes as much as
possible. We’ve brought back the popular color-changing souvenir cups and
you can pick yours up at a coffee stand or beer garden near you (assuming
you’re at the Meltdown while reading this). And for the first year ever we’re
offering ceramic souvenir coffee cups so you can think about your happy place
at Meltdown every morning, all year long. Every time you present one of your
cups at the beer garden or e-bar for a refill, you’ll be entered in a drawing to
win a FREE PAIR OF TICKETS TO MELTDOWN 2012 in our MDX Evergreen

ZERO HERO / www.zeroheroevents.com
Wizard Technologies presents complimentary consultation and design of
rainwater catchment systems. All that is needed is a surface to collect
rainfall and a container to hold the water. Come on by with your “water
harvest” ideas or questions and we can share.
ZeroHero helps event producers create more sustainable events through
zero-waste management, renewable energy utilization, and education.
ZeroHero and Meltdown aim to reach a waste diversion percentage (or
Zero-Rate) of 80%, up from 60% in 2009. ZeroHero also assists events with
utilizing renewable energy, such as biodiesel for generators and vehicles,
solar for stage and lighting, in addition to advanced forms of clean energy,
such as hydrogen fuel cells, gasification technology, and other waste-toenergy methods. To learn more about volunteer and staffing opportunities

Okanogan Highlands Bottling Company / www.purewater.org
Earthen Culture is a grass roots business based out of the San Juan islands.
We are dedicated to earthen building, natural building, sustainable living and
conscientious land practices. For this Meltdown we have created a hybrid
mobile cabin to demonstrate how you can combine earthen building with
salvaged materials and other alternative building methods such as papercrete
and hypertufa, to create a structure suitable for almost any purpose. Build
your own model cob home during our earthen building workshops this year at
Meltdown! ON EARTH WITH EARTH FOR EARTH.
The Okanogan Highlands Bottling Company was established in 1998.
We believe people have the power to change what is wrong in our world.
We must speak out and act when we see an injustice. Our water affords
people the opportunity to get involved by sending a message in a bottle to
the powers that be about the issues represented on our labels. Recycling
a bottle with a political message as a mailing tube turns a consumer into
an activist. We want to encourage folks to speak up about peace and the
environmental effects of cyanide leach gold mining. Our goal is to eventually
bottle our waters locally in the Okanogan to provide an economic, as well as
environmental, incentive to keep our water clean.

In between the wild and the city lies the hut, an integration point for whole-body training. This is
where the Sensei dwells.
There are thousands of nerve endings in your feet. But as you walk and run through life, you’re
often shielded by socks, shoes, and indoor carpeting. Mick Dodge has been going barefoot —
all the time, everywhere he goes — for almost 25 years. He believes that our feet connect us
to nature. It’s a lesson he first learned as a kid growing up by the Hoh River on the Olympic
Peninsula. He’s now a fitness consultant with the Seattle organization “Exuberant Animal.” And,
he walks all over the Puget Sound region sharing his barefoot wisdom.
Come meet Mick Dodge, the Barefoot Sensei, at the Village Stage at 1:00pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday to ground Your

ALO is one of the most creative,
entertaining, funny and lovable
bands on the planet. With
three records out on Brushfire
Records and a fourth one
currently in the works, the
California collective continues
to bring its signature blend of
feel good music to audiences far
and wide. Maybe best said by
their label mate Jack Johnson,
“They can improvise and jam as
good as anyone I’ve ever seen.
But they got these songs that
really stick in your head as well.”
Having already experienced the
Meltdown over the past few
years with various side projects,
ALO couldn’t be more thrilled
for their full band debut at this
year’s festival
New Monsoon represents
the best of the San Francisco
jam scene. Formed during
the El Nino rains of Northern
California in the late 90’s,
this band has distilled their
original sound with top-flight
musicianship, tireless live
performing and a thoroughly
open-minded musical
perspective. NM’s unique style
blends free-flying rock with
acoustic stylings, tight vocal
harmonies and lyrical songcraft.
With a fearless pioneering
spirit, they’ve become one of
the most cutting edge bands on
the scene today.
The Everyone Orchestra is
an improvisational project
featuring a constantly revolving
cast of players who follow the
signs and signals of founder/
conductor Matt Butler. The
music is created through
conducted improvisational
musical exploration and
audience participation and is
different each time EO plays.
The experience is highly
participatory, unpredictable,
danceable and super fun!
Matt and Everyone Orchestra
are committed to working for
good and perform frequently in
support of charitable causes.
Los Angeles based band Orgone
is many souls with a cosmic
connection, a natural creative
force and musicians who have
played together for years. They
are self schooled and continue
to shape their musical voice as a
solid unit of guys who hang, spin
records and jam out their shared
inspirations. With a rooted
sense of funk, soul, afrobeat,
deep rhythms and an intimate
understanding of dj culture as
well as each others’ individual
talents, Orgone seamlessly
slides through multiple styles
and dynamic performances.
The group continuously injects
whatever they play with a heavy
brand of raw funk power.
“The theorem of turntablist
as musician has been long
proven in the capable hands
of DJ LOGIC, whom with jazz
as his foundation has become
a wax innovator by crossing
genres and sprinkling his sound
across the map. As one of the
world’s most accomplished
turntablist’s, DJ LOGIC is widely
credited for introducing jazz
into the hip - hop realms and is
considered by most as a highly
respected session musician and
an innovative bandleader.

Santa Cruz, California is the home
of the surf-and-skate, capoeirakicking, scene-busting phenomenon
known as SambaDa. This smoldering
and soldering band is a magnet of
unexpected particles shaved from
Brazilian and American sources. For
over ten years, SambaDá has been
mixing contemporary sounds with
the roots of brazilian culture. Papiba
is a master of Capoeira, an Afro
Brazilian martial art form created
by Brazilian slaves, which draws on
music and acrobatic movements.
Dandha was born into the rich Afro
Brazilian traditions of Salvador,
Bahia and the Carnival Group Ile
Aiye, and started her dancing career
at age 6. Ile Aiye has been in the
forefront of Civil Rights in Brazil,
promoting equality and justice, and
is widely recognized as the first
Afro Brazilian BLOCO or group to
perform in Brazil’s notorious Carnival
celebrations.
Jamie Janover is recognized as a
true innovator. His considerable
creative output includes:
being a master of the ancient
percussion stringed instrument
called the hammered dulcimer,
inventing and performing
on an instrument he calls
the “mini-kit” (a miniature
amplified drum kit), playing
pyrocussion (fire drums) and
creating the RealmsMobile (a
recumbent tricycle with the
mini-kit attached, enabling
him to ride and play drums
simultaneously).
By combining recent innovations
in modern technology with the
wisdom of ancient instruments,
Janover achieves a balance
between the electronic and the
acoustic to create a unified field:
music reflective of the nature of
modern times.
Newfangled Wasteland features
Chris Haugen (Jambay, Melvin
Seals), keyboardist Trevor
Garrod (Tea Leaf Green), bassist
Steve Adams (ALO, Big Light)
and drummer Dave Brogan
(ALO). They play songs by Beck.
Its fun. .
Massy Ferguson is a bar band
in the best sense -- not a band
relegated to bars because it
will never rise higher, but a
band that plays music perfectly
suited to dark, crowded rooms
in which there’s at least a
possibility of a beer glass
smashing against a wall. The
songs, filled with barflies,
broken hearts and doomed latenight romance, would sound
pretty good anywhere, though.
Singer-bassist Ethan Anderson
says the sound is Americana
that leans more toward rock
than country, and that’s a pretty
good description.
Cody Beebe & The Crooks are a
7-piece Roots Rock band from
Seattle, WA. Formed in February
of 2009, the group combines
Beebe’s aggressively percussive
acoustic guitar style with the
diverse musical experience
of a strikingly creative and
cultured band. Cody Beebe and
The Crooks blend rock, blues,
and country with an artistic
integrity that is intriguing and
unforgettable (think Steve Earle
meets Pink Floyd).
“They nearly blew the roof off
the joint with their energetic,
highly charged roots-rock
assault.” -Chris Senn,
Melophobe.com
The Jerry Garcia Celebration is
an annual tribute to the life and
music of Jerry Garcia. Started
in Seattle in 2006 by Andy
Coe, the event has been a
success and has spread out to
encompass much of the
Northwest. The Andy Coe
Band provides the music and
features members from McTuff,
Flowmotion and several other
wonderful bands. The Andy

Rees and Chris
Jones.

This year Sandy released
a ukulele album of his own
personal songs entitled “Songs
from the cold coast”. While
normally a ukulele brings to
mind a Hawaiian reggae or
southern California feel, Sandy
takes the instrument in new
directions, bringing out dronelike middle eastern qualities
and even slide guitar, All while
remaining in the popular
Hawaiian tuning. His songs
reflect a more psychedelic feel,
using melancholy chords and
his signature style will leave you
wanting to pick up the ukulele.
Powerful and innovative, The
Endorfins create a compellingly
original sound hard to define.
It can best be described as
carefully composed progressive
instrumental dance rock.
Drawing from the influence
of Pink Floyd, The Beatles,
Galactic, Rage Against the
Machine, Modest Mouse,
Ratatat, and Rodrigo y Gabriela
the bands versatile repertoire
is both highly energetic yet
strongly intriguing.
Energized by their connections
on previous tours in previous
bands, the musicians of Keaton
Collective set out to be their
own indie super-band. Keaton
Collective united to create
an open forum for all of their
material. From the start they’ve
self-produced their own albums,
booked their own tours, and set
out to create the music they all
wanted to enjoy. Never holding
back from pushing themselvestheir albums and performances
have always showcased a
great diversity in harmonies,
melodies, and instrumentation
across the spectrum of rock
and roll.
Ben Bruce is a singer/songwriter
playing what he terms “honest
songs, honestly sung,” on
an old, beat down acoustic
guitar. His music is alternately
raucous, restrained and rare, but
always raw. Currently residing
in Seattle, WA, he has lived in
Connecticut, Baltimore, Boulder,
Austin and New York, and has
traveled extensively throughout
the United States. In New York
City, he was a frequent player at
such clubs as CBGBs [RIP] and
the Continental Club, while here
in the Northwest he frequently
plays live in Seattle and
Bellingham and is so excited to
be playing at MDX.
This Neoacoustifunk Hip Hop
Duo is made up of one part
Nate B. and one part Annie
J. Nate, guitar and vocals,
and Annie, flute and vocals,
have a few important things in
common. Both are devout choir
nerds with a dedication to tight
harmonies, pleasing harmonics,
and rhythm. With a wide
variety of styles, their music
ranges from original rap battles,
ballads, and soul clappers, to
uniquely arranged covers you
never thought you’d hear again.

recordings both as a solo artist
and as a member of local bands
Panda Conspiracy and Publish
the Quest, Poage continues
to push forward in 2011. This
special Meltdown set features
Chris on the guitar with a
stripped down preview of songs
that will become the play list for
the new Seattle band Mountains
and Tunnels.
FLOWMOTION is a name well
known in the Seattle live music
scene. The band has managed
to remain in the “best-keptsecret” vault of the live music
scene, all the while honing a
live show that often exceeds
the size of the stage they might
find themselves performing
on. A FLOWMOTION show is
a swooping ride through the
fingers of rock fueled solely on
the expert musicianship of its
five parts, producing a sound
that’s unmistakably huge.

“ My music is roots reggae from
the island of Jamaica. I grew up
deep in the hills, up in St. Catherine,
surrounded by nature, beauty and
hard work. Even as a child, I knew I
wanted to be a musician and began
my career singing in church and at
school, and eventually built my own
guitar! As a teenager, my journeys
took me to Kingston where I met
many musicians and eventually
began writing and recording music.
The Skatalites, Motown artists and
Jamaican musicians who came
before me all influenced my music.
I write from my heart. The world is
full of inspirations…nature, people,
politics, love. I write about them
all. My music is good for the soul
- always with a message of hope
and betterment for tomorrow. It’s
good for dancing, good for listening
and appeals to the young and old.”
Clinton Fearon
Particle is an American jam
band formed in Los Angeles in
2000. Along with The Disco
Biscuits and Sound Tribe Sector
9, the group was among the
first to blend rock, jazz, funk,
and electronica into the milieu
of what has been dubbed
livetronica (a subgenre of the
jam band movement where
live bands blend the structures
of DJ-produced sequenced
electronic music into a more
traditional live band setting).
Prior to 2006, the band’s
repertoire consisted entirely of
instrumental material.
As a six-piece ensemble
featuring saxophone, guitar,
slide, keyboards, bass, drums,
and percussion, Acorn Project
produces an irresistibly unique
sound. The band’s funk-infused
progressive rock draws an
audience inward with their
performance, never letting
go until each individual has
been infected with their ability
to blend seemingly limitless
musical styles into their own
character.
When jazz legends Lionel
Hampton and Milt Jackson
first introduced the vibes to
the jazz idiom circa 1930, they
could have never in their wildest
dreams foreseen where Mike
Dillon would take the concept
75 years later. Likewise, Dillon’s
heroes Black Sabbath, The
Minutemen and Bad Brains
would’ve been hard-pressed
to envision a vibraphonist
internalizing their punk ethos
and conjuring his own rageagainst-the-machine spirit
through the mellifluous sounds
of the vibraphone.
Wassabi Collective, a spicy fivepiece from the arty, alternativethinking small town of Nelson,
B.C, Canada has been busy
spreading their positive west
coast vibes. The band’s sound
fuses everything from pop, rock,
hip hop, roots reggae, funk,
jazz and everything in between,
wrapping it all up with their
own identifiable twist that has
captivated dance floors and won
them legions of fans across the
country.
Juno What?! is a shameless
dance party. Formed in 2008,
the band has quickly become
the leading practitioner of highenergy disco booty jams, and
live electro-funk.
Catalyzing dance floors
into sonic landscapes, the
band has ignited a devoted
following of fans by providing
raw, electrifying shows which
are devoid of the aimless
wanderings of the lesser jam
community. Their sound is
ahead of its time yet still rooted
in the foundation of early-80’s
dance grooves with a devout
appreciation for sternumbumping progressive themes.

On their soulful debut Dust

a lyrically and vocally driven
mix of indie pop, acoustic folk
and alt-rock tinged with bits
of country and Motown soul.
It’s a striking mix; Uitti and
Benson make a great team, with
the poems steering Benson’s
singing toward an emotional
climax. Be ready to be touched.
- PERFORMER MAGAZINE
Black Cherry Crush is a dance
party with soul. Front woman
and Pop Diva songstress Fysah
Thomas leads this band with
funk-soul flavored tunes, rockheavy scorchers, and electropop bootie shakers.
For the past 20 years, Paul
Benoit has performed and
recorded his own music and
collaborated with numerous
musicans to release 16 albums.
Benoit released 2 albums with
his electric/acoustic group
Crosseyed and 5 albums with
his instrumental band Hanuman.
Benoit’s songwriting continues
to evolve and he has released
six solo recordings of roots-rock,
pop, folk, blues and kids music.
Benoit performs throughout the
United States, Canada, Europe,
North Africa, Asia, Mexico, and
Central America solo, with his
band, and with performer/poet
Chris Chandler.
After nearly a 5-year hiatus,
Seattle-based Beecraft has
reunited all of its members,
from both the original and most
recent rosters, to form the most
epic incarnation of the band to
date. Beecraft fuses elements
of heavy rock, funk and jazz into
carefully crafted songs that give
way to spirited improvisations
and intricate group interplay.
The band will feature Don
Goodwin (Freefire, Don
Goodwin Group) on keyboards
and vocals, Skiff Feldspar
(GOAT) and Jamie Zyskowski
on guitars, Colby Davis and
Saburo Miyata on bass, Scott
Goodwin (Flowmotion) on
drums and vocals, and Bob Rees
(Flowmotion) on percussion.
After years of freestyling
music and words on riverbeds,
beaches, ski lifts, porches
and garages, Buzz Brümp was
formed in 2010 to share a mixed
bag of good vibes through their
music. Hailing from New Jersey,
Colorado, New York and Seattle,
they have created a uniquely
diverse sound that sweats it out
on the dance floor.
As the granddaughter of jazz
musicians and the daughter of
flute makers, Sarah Schmidt
could not have escaped
music even if she wanted to.
Influenced by the rhythms of
jazz, the sounds of soul, and the
storytelling quality of folk music,
she thinks of songs as packages
that wrap up all the odds
and ends, joys and sorrows,
struggles, and connections.
Sarah believes music can be a
tool, to seek, to dig and to find.

Weekend Horoscopes
The TaylorScope
By: Taylor Phifer
FOR FUN
Aries: With a little determination, the generosity of others,
some leeway from your boss, the mishandling of some
incriminating evidence, the incompetence of a mugger and
the heavy hand of a bartender, you should make it through
today in one piece.
Taurus: Today will be the best day ever and not just the
three-straight, uninterrupted hours of live-shows kind of
good, but a real, honest to god, good day. But, you’ll miss
the whole thing thinking about the future. You’ll see what I
mean tomorrow.
MDX KIDS
Gemini: While standing outside the outhouse searching
your pockets for your cell-phone and demonstrating a
pathetic attempt to appear casual – remember this. Don’t
take valuables in the outhouse – because when it’s gone,
it’s gone baby.
SCHEDULE
Cancer: Years from now you’ll look back on today and
wonder how you ever got by without the teleportation
machine. You’ll reminisce about the quaint way people
used to drive everywhere and spend hours, literally days,
travelling from one end of the earth to the other. Several
months from then you’ll get into that silly machine thinking
it’s the shower and end up in a Chinese jail on charges of
indecent exposure. But don’t worry – that’s like, years from
now.
ARTIST BIOS
Leo: It’s a long weekend of fun and intrigue. You’ll meet
lots of new people and run into some old acquaintances.
All this can make ones mind orbit thoughts of purpose and
belonging. This can cause urges to change your heading, to
remodel your course. Standby sailor – you just need a new
bumper sticker. Don’t change your philosophy, just your
bumper sticker.
Virgo: To hell with famous last words, you need some
famous first words like, “Relax I know what I’m doing,” or,
“It’ll be good – just mix ‘em together, “ or “Just light it and
throw it.” Better yet, “You first.”
ARTIST BIOS
Libra: It’s hard to describe a Libra without using the
words arrogant and loudmouth unless you use the words
annoying, over zealous, pious, incorrigible or despotic.
Although someone loves you and the above information
will cause you to strive to find those redeeming qualities
burning to come out

WORKSHOPS
Scorpio: They say the time is now. But really the time was
yesterday and it won’t be now again until sometime next
spring. So take some time for sitting, thinking, smoking,
and drinking, preferably all at the same time, because what
if there is no tomorrow? I mean there wasn’t one today.
Sagittarius: Your refusal to stand in lines, your rampant
disregard for others and a need to wear gregarious outfits
despite how ridiculous you look, will all play favorably in
your new career choice: “Autocrat.”
GATE HOURS
Please be mindful of our gate hours. It is extremely difficult to facilitate late arrivals.
If you arrive outside of posted gate hours, you will be denied entrance.
Thursday Gate Hours: 5pm to 10pm
Friday Gate Hours: 10am to 10pm
Saturday Gate Hours: 10am to 10pm
Sunday Gate Hours: 10am to 10pm
Capricorn: Your ruler Pluto, according to new science, is
no longer a planet, but that doesn’t make you less of a
person. However, you’d better adjust your orbit and realize
you’re a small rock in a big universe. And don’t forget if it
weren’t for you, what would those lazy grade school kids
do for their science reports? “Pluto: the smallest of nine
planets orbiting the sun. It’s small and far, far away.” Jon
Peterson, Grade 4. (Jon was the first one on the playground
that day).

Aquarius: Old proverb written by someone: “Once a girl
asked a guy to marry her. The guy said no. The girl lived
happily ever after. She shopped, drank martinis, had a clean
house, didn’t have to cook, stayed thin, and was never
farted on. Old proverb written by me: “Once there was a
guy who asked a girl to marry him. The girl said no. The guy
lived happily ever after. He golfed as he pleased. He stayed
late at work and gained multiple promotions. He had a
clean enough house – where he rarely slept and he, too,
stayed in shape and was also never farted on.”
Pisces: Don’t take any old unsolicited advice from people
you hardly know or don’t know at all. It’s most likely just
some made up drivel anyway.

MDX INFO
First of all, we want to thank YOU for making Meltdown what it is. The excitement and passion that
Meltdown attendees possess is truly what makes this festival so special. We also want to express our
deep gratitude to Mark Lax for his continued support and of course, a huge thank you goes out to The
Darrington Bluegrass & Country Music Association for taking a leap of faith and letting us youngsters
do our thing in their beautiful backyard. Special Thanks to the Sun Maker for his amazing contributions
to the new face of the Village Stage. Thank you to Jenny Zhu and all of our great sponsors for not only
their financial and in-kind support, but also for being businesses we are proud to call our partners.

WELCOME
A SPECIAL THANK YOU
simple weekend guidelines
You know what to do. We’re all here to have a good time, to relax, and to
enjoy the company of old friends, new friends, and the occasional random
strangers wandering by.
Smile, laugh, sing, and dance . . . and please keep in mind the following basic
“rules.”
Absolutely NO FIRES, candles, flame lanterns, or charcoal grills. Campfires
are not allowed in any part of the festival grounds, or in the river area. Firespinning/Play/Art will be allowed ONLY in designated areas and only with
support of safety staff. If you are using a camp stove make sure you bring
along a fire extinguisher and have it properly placed where everyone can
access it. Always make sure your stove is in an area clear of dry grass and
brush, and never leave a stove unattended while it is burning.
NEW 2010 note on fires – If your camp has a campfire going, you WILL BE
ASKED TO LEAVE. Please respect this very important rule and don’t put us
at risk of losing this beautiful venue. There are no exceptions to this rule.
If you see a campfire anywhere in the venue, please report it to security
immediately.
FIREWORKS ARE NOT PERMITTED. Don’t be the Jackass that ruined Meltdown.
Fireworks pose a real threat to the forest, to others, and to our future at the
venue.
Alcohol & Drug Policy
Underage drinking and illegal drug use are NOT permitted! Non-compliance
with this could jeopardize the future of Summer Meltdown. Anyone caught
using drugs or participating in underage drinking will be ejected from the
venue with no refund. Anyone caught selling drugs will be turned in to county
law enforcement.
REPLACE
Drinking is restricted to the Beer Garden and to your individual campgrounds.
Open containers of alcohol are not allowed in the general public festival
areas (music meadow, vendor village, late night tent, etc). Due to several
bottle related incidents, and large amounts of broken glass, glass bottles are
not allowed in the venue anywhere. If we see glass bottles anywhere in the
venue, we will take them, regardless of how full they are or how thirsty you
look.
Radios - Generators & DOGS
Amplified sound is not permitted in camping areas! Please leave your
sound systems at home. Be considerate to those around you and remember,
everyone needs to sleep at some point! Generators are not permitted in
camping areas.
Dogs and other pets are NOT allowed at Meltdown. If you show up with a
dog, you will not be admitted into the event. Identified and registered service
animals are welcome.
Vehicles In the Venue
All vehicles inside the venue must display a 2010 vehicle pass. Purchasing a
vehicle camping pass entitles you to a ONE WAY trip inside the venue to park
and camp. You will not be allowed to come and go with this permit. If you
do decide to leave, you will not be permitted to bring your car back inside the
venue. Motorhomes, trailers, campers, and school buses require an oversize
vehicle camping pass
Cigarettes & Smoking
Cigarette smoking is not allowed in the main music meadow, beer garden
or within 50 yards of any music or public performance. Always put your
cigarette butts out and please NEVER throw them on the ground. Throughout
the grounds you will find butt cans to place your cigarette litter into. Meltdown
has earned a great reputation for not leaving any cigarette butt litter on the
grounds at the end of the weekend. Let’s keep it this way!
River Access
The river is not on festival grounds. Enter this area at your own risk. Kids
should be accompanied by an adult when at the river area. Do not use soaps
and shampoos in the river. If you are bathing, please use the bucket system
and rinse off soaps at least 20 feet from the water. Please be respectful and
keep your impact low.
Garbage & Recycling
Summer Meltdown is committed to reducing our foot print in the local
community. Almost all of the food and garbage that is created at the event
is recycled. But this takes a bit of effort on your part. Please take the extra
effort to sort your recyclables in our labeled bins and in your camp. Food
scraps should be kept separate and added to the compost totes located
at the recycling stations. Read more about our fantastic recycling efforts
throughout the program. Help us show what a difference we can make just
by setting our minds to it.
We pick up and strip
out your materials!
