Licenses &
Information
Requirements
• Both parties must be present and have an acceptable form
of picture identification, drivers’ licenses are preferred. If you
are not a U.S. citizen, a valid passport must be presented.
• The cost of the license is reduced if the couple has attended
an approved counseling class. The provider of the class
must be listed with the Clerks office. Inquiries may call
904.819.3640.
• Social Security numbers will need to be provided. If either
or both parties are not U.S. residents, then a valid passport will
act in lieu of the Social Security number.
Who can marry you?
Any notary can officiate a marriage ceremony.
• It is required by Florida Law that a Family Law Handbook be
read prior to issuance of the marriage license.
Marriages Offshore
• If either party has been previously married,
the exact date of the last terminated marriage must
be known.
To be legal, vows must be exchanged within three miles of the
shore.
• The state of Florida requires a 3-day waiting period if both
parties are Florida residents and have not taken an approved
marriage class.

904.819.3640. To be wed on a boat, vows must be exchanged
before crossing the three-mile mark.

• The license is good for 60 days from the effective date and
can be used anywhere in the State of Florida.

Upon request, the VCB Sales Team can provide brochures and
other materials of use to groups visiting Florida’s Historic Coast.
The Visitors & Convention Bureau offers objective information
and professional insight regarding event facilities throughout
Florida’s Historic Coast. The staff has the resources available to
provide hotel information, meeting facility specifics and supplier
references, as well as suggestions on attractions and unique
offsite venues. In addition, the VCB can arrange and conduct
personalized site inspections.

Getting Here: Fly or Drive
to St. Augustine
Though St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra on Florida’s Historic
Coast is a world away from average, you needn’t travel
far to envelop yourself in its history and luxury. The area
is less than two hours away from most major Florida
cities, including Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Gainesville
and Orlando. Savannah, Georgia, and Florida’s capitol,
Tallahassee, are less than four hours from our shores.
Average Annual Temperatures
Cooperative weather is a trademark of Florida’s Historic Coast
where gentle ocean breezes and soothing temperatures are a
daily occurrence. Average daily temperatures range from a low
of 57 F in January to a high of 81 F in August. And summers
are the mildest you can find in the Sunshine State.
