Tympani mallet heads that are progressively softer, from the core outwards, offer the player the
advantage of being able to personally influence rhythmic clarity and tone colour. This idea is 150
years old. Originally materials such as wood, sponge, wool and leather were used. Today it is
principally wood, cork, leather, cotton and felt. All the tympani mallets described here are the result
of modern improvements , while still remaining true to the 150 year old central European tradition.

Flannell
Wonderful sounding flannel mallets have now been perfected. Wooden screw - threading on the
bamboo shaft has been replaced with plastic. This permits the player to choose the number and
distribution. Of the flannel discs there is no more wearing down of wooden threads and the sound
qualities of the mallets remain constant.

The discs are neither sewn nor glued together and therefore remain soft. The player has the
possibility of determining the number of discs him or herself because of the screw - off plastic disc .

Grundton
This new tympani mallet's, special core differs from traditional wood and cork cores.
It allows for a pleasing, warm sound with out undesirable overtones and extraneous noise. The sound
quality remains constant across the entire dynamic range from pp to ff.
The so-called "pop" / "bang" effect in ff is reduced while at the same time pp dynamics remain
articulated. The fine, dark tone colour is particularly appropriate for the German romantic
repertoire. This "big sound" is made possible by slightly heavier mallet heads.
Precision craftsmanship. Weight difference less than 1g.
German felt, Chinese bamboo.
The higher the number, the softer the head.
