Steve Powers was born and raised in Philadelphia, then moved to New
York in 1994. After stints as publisher of On The Go magazine, author
of the book The Art of Getting Over (1999), and full-time graffiti writer
as “ESPO”, Powers began his studio practice in 1998. He has since
shown his work at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia,
Deitch Projects, New York, the 2001 Venice Biennale, Alleged Annex,
Los Angeles, the 2002 Liverpool Biennial, and The City Arts Centre in
Dublin. In 2002, Powers was commissioned to create artwork for the
Cincinnati Childrenís Hospital Teen Health Center. His body of work
reflects a fascination with graffiti, sign painting, urban marketing and
con games of all shapes and sizes. In 2004, Powers and Creative Time
organized The Dreamland Artist Club, a project that revitalized a New
York landmark by painting signs and rides in Coney Island.

Barry McGee comes from a background of creating unsanctioned work on city streets. Over
the years, his signature tags and markings have inserted elements of the individual and the
handmade into a depersonalized urban landscape that is increasingly crowded with corporate
logos, trademarks and advertisements. Working outdoors and in public spaces necessitates certain
anonymity for him and needs to be performed quickly and stealthily in areas that command
maximum exposure. When this artist turns his ambition loose inside the museum, however, his
artistic intentions change significantly with the context. In most instances, work commissioned for
museum walls is no longer about pulling off elaborate stunts and feats, seeing how precarious and
high a wall or fence he has climbed, how secure an area he has penetrated, unnoticed, in broad
daylight, under security surveillance. Rather, its main concern is breaking down the concept of the
museum as an elitist fortress, turning it inside out to welcome the gritty vitality and energetic pace
of the city streets into its hushed gallery environment.

Arien’s work is a testament to the Western–Middle
Eastern dialectic and explores his identity of an Iranian–
American through his work in the hybridization of
Orientalist mystique and Western aesthetics, pointing
to the non–essentiality of each culture. The artist
“Islamisizes” the Western pop comic in his latest works
entitled “Passions in the Sand: A Terrorist Romance
Novel,” de–familiarizing the Western viewer in their
own form, revealing social and political function in the
everyday. This is then deconstructed further through
the “blowing up” as the artist puts it, of the novel into
collages, suggesting the aftermath of a fragmentation,
abstraction, commensurate to the language of
colonialism. Arien Valizadeh consciously fulfills the
exotic Orientalist demand within the Western framework,
much like the unobtrusive Arabic boy knows of his “act”
in a Sunny Delight commercial. Arien Valizadeh has
shown work in galleries across the U.S. and is currently
showing his solo exhibition at the RVCA gallery in SF.

Margaux Arramon-Tucoo is a 20 year old French traveller, surfer and
painter. She grew up in the quaint coastal town of Biarritz, in front
of the ocean in her mother’s studio. Her close ties to nature and the
ocean combined with a creative upbringing have certainly inspired
her incredibly stylish surfing. Margaux credits her senses and physical
movement for providing creative fuel for her artwork – eyes to see
the world around her, feet travel the world, hands to build with no
limitations. She strives to live by principles of a clear soul, balance and
grace.

Jeff McMillan was born in October of 1977 in San Jose, CA. He attended
the Academy of Art in San Francisco and graduated from Art Center
College of Design in Pasadena in 2004. He now lives and works in Long
Beach with his wonderful wife, Liv and a disobedient Siamese cat. B.F.A
in Illustration, Art Center College of Design. Jeff has exhibited in New
York, San Francisco, London and Los Angeles and has contributed work
to several companies; including: Disney, Mountain Dew, Mike Tyson,
RVCA, Billabong, Mircosoft Zune, Nike, Fall Out Boy, Infected Mushroom,
Music Skins, Elle magazine, Esquire magazine, Paper magazine,
Complex magazine, Look–Look magazine, Chronicle Books, L.A Weekly,
