Summer encampments are a r equired phase of the CiTi1
Ai r Patrol cadet t r a i ning progr am and are designed
to acc omplish the f ol lowi ngs
I .
1.
Pr ovide CAP cadets with an opportunity to
gain s. working knowledge of the operation
of t he Air Force Base and to acquire the
atmosphere associated with military life
by making available to them quarters, food
service, medical and recreational facilities normally provided for Air Force personnel.
2.
Familiarize CAP cadets with the scope of the
United States Air Force training program and
to show by practical demonstration the common
relationship between vocational training as
taught and as practiced in the Air Force and
those trades peculiar to the Aviation industry
in civilian life.
We ."casually" moved our belongings to the barracks.

CIVIL AIR PATROL CADET ENCAMPMENT
NORTON AIR FORCE BASE
San Bernardino, Calif.
17 August 1959
Thi. is oar story. • • • •
We 1lre air .inded cadet and senior persoMel who are dedicated to the theory that
hadca's future and the peace of the world depends upon "Airpawer". Teward this end,
• haYe been attending a S\1IIIU!r Encampment at Rorton Air Force Bue. San Bernardino,
California. Thi. little publicatiol\ will act as a reminder of the life we'n led. the
le.sona ve've learned and the friendships ve've fosteredThis encaapaent hu been another major e%perience in oar lins. Here we haft
obsernd, fir.t hand. haw the Air Force flies. lives. worb and plays by being a
part f1f these things. We have studied ....iation technology. leadership. personal
SlaprOftllent and discipline. We have learned of many vClcational opportunities
aTa1lable in ....iation. by actually worldng with baae personnel at their jobs. We
han al.o developed a rich backlog of close friendships through these our lIlUtual
e%periencea.
Th1e year our training has cQgered three baportant areass (1) We've had a
ccaplete "Basic Trairdng" progr_ for first year cadets; (2) We've had a completely
different -Advanced Training- program for second or third year cadets with an
aphasis on Military and ConferellCe Leadership. Public Speaking and Administration
in addition to aore advanced military training; and (3) We've had a better than
ever "O:n-The-Job-Training" progr_ where we learn about Air Force work by actually
working at Air Force Jobs.
As we close this enc_pment. we want to express our 8incere appreciation for
the wonderfUl cooperation and a •• i8tance which haa been ertended to us by military
and civilian per80Mel alike here at Borton Air Force Base.
And so our story end8. We were here but a short tbae and yet the thing8 that
we have done and the l._ona that we haYe learned will be with u. always.

1. The cadeta of this encaapment feel that last years Senior-Cadet baseball gae shonld
'be declared mll aM void. The senior staff ued eTerr aTailable meana at it's disposal ",0
depriTe the cadet tea of a fair gae. By . .playing UMlITory and unaporta8l'l like tactics
(BRIBBS, TBBBAT6 OF BODILY BAM AND ma) the .. nior staff managed to score a greater mDlber
of points than the cadet tea. We are of the opinion that ve have the right to a rematch.
tn fact we demand a rematch.
2. If the senior staff can this year prcwide a tea with a senae of fair plaT, higher
moral standards, higher code of ethics and not pull 'the dirty, stinking, filthy rotten tricD
and tactics 'tMy pulled last year, the cadet te. will consider a aeeting on the field of
