Internet Service Description
OSHEAN’s High-Speed Internet Access Service provides direct access to the Internet at a variety of
speeds from 15mb to 1Gb. The service includes associated line mappings, head-end router
configurations, public IPv4 address space, DNS service, firewall services and “Ancillary Services” such as
content filtering. This comprehensive offering helps secure the data to and from your network, offers
continuous quality controls, and coordination with the telecommunications providers for circuit
installations, service upgrades and maintenance issues.

In addition to a generous guaranteed bandwidth (1.5x Service Tier), OSHEAN members enjoy unmetered
access to 93,000+ resources including more than 250 Colleges & Universities, 80 leading corporations,
and national research and educational organizations via integration and OSHEAN’s exclusive partnership
with Internet2.
OSHEAN members further enjoy unmetered access to on-network services and peering partners, which
include other OSHEAN members, Netflix, Akamai and Google Global Cache. This architecture greatly
improves overall performance, enhances user experience, and adds value that other vendors don’t offer.
Unmetered bandwidth does not count against Internet subscription.
Managed Network Infrastructure
For members who do not wish to maintain their own router or those who prefer not to appropriate capital
funds for an edge router to connect to OSHEAN services, OSHEAN can provide an installed, monitored,
and managed router at a cost effective recurring lease price. 24x7 circuit monitoring and trouble
resolution are also included in this service, for both leased Telco lines and OSHEAN Beacon 2.0
circuits. The provided equipment will be refreshed as necessary, end-of-life, end-of–support, increased
capacity, etc.

OSHEAN makes every effort to ensure that it’s Internet Service and Managed Network Infrastructure services are supported for
reimbursement under 2015 E-rate rules. OSHEAN also makes every effort to provide billing in a manner that facilitates E-rate

OSHEAN ENRICHED INTERNET SERVICES
Private Peering:
OSHEAN’s Enriched Internet Services are engineered for private peering. Private Peering
accounts for approximated 25-30% of traffic that would typically route over the Internet.
However, OSHEAN has the ability to keep this traffic “On-Net” for better performance and
cost savings. Unmetered traffic is not charged against your IP subscription rate.
Examples of OSHEAN’s private peering capabilities are Google, Netflix, ESPN Research,
Akamai caching servers, MS-Updates, Apple IOS updates, Caching Servers, Other
OSHEAN members, NoX Members and Internet 2.
Internet 2:
OSHEAN provides UNMETERED (not charged against your IP Subscription Rate) access to
the Internet2 advanced layer 3 services and the NET+ program. Internet2’s everexpanding service offerings are described at http://www.internet2.edu/. The NET+ program
provides access to a portfolio of “above the network” cloud-based services. The Internet2
NET+ Services program provides Internet2 members and other participating institutions
access to an ever-growing catalog of cloud-based services designed or tailored
specifically for the research and education community.
Network Statistics and Performance Management:
OSHEAN utilizes various products from SolarWinds to monitor each piece of customer
premise equipment (CPE). Information logged includes availability, packet loss, CPU
utilization, memory utilization, traffic throughput, and other information useful for
troubleshooting and capacity planning. OSHEAN makes this information available to its
members through a user-friendly web-based portal. As part of OSHEAN’s commitment to
customer service, this information is routinely reviewed with member organizations.
In addition, trouble ticket reviews are conducted weekly for all OSHEAN members and we
encourage members to join these meetings either in person or via conference call. During
these meetings, each trouble ticket related is reviewed to ensure a proper resolution has
been achieved, discuss progress, or identify next steps. These meetings serve as a
quality control measure and help ensure a superior level of service and support.
Unmetered Internet:
OSHEAN’s comprehensive suite of IP offerings and network is architected to supports
21st century research and education in a way no other provider can. In addition to access to the
traditional (commodity Internet) available through a number of providers, OSHEAN’s network
opens the door to new possibilities everyday. OSHEAN members enjoy “unmetered” access to a
large number of resources and services meaning no limits in terms of the amount of bandwidth or
data rates are imposed. This reduces the amount of commodity Internet access you need which
saves your money and at the same time provides faster and more reliable access to some of the
most resources on the Internet.

CONTRACTS
3 Year Contracts:
OSHEAN guarantees a 10% decrease each year of the 3 year contract of the prevailing rate for the academic year.
RIDE will announce any changes to pricing each year.
