Seven American Pastel Painters
Siete Pintores Pastel de América
The United States Delegation to Pintores Pastelistas Espanoles International Salon Show in Oviedo, Spain
Two years in the planning, ASPAS (Pintores Pastelistas Espanoles) president Jose Del Riego,
in conference with William Hosner, invited six American pastel painters and along with Mr. Hosner’s
work, formed an American delegation. It is Mr. Hosner’s responsibility to carry the paintings to the
ASPAS International Exhibition of Pastel in Oviedo, Spain in November of 2013. The United States
has been placed as the Guest Country of Honor at this prestigious exhibition.
Oviedo is the capital of the region of Asturias. It is an historic city with a University founded in the
16th century. There are many important Spanish monuments (some of them declared by Unseco World
Heritage) and museums located in and around the city. Oviedo is about 420 kilometers from Madrid and it
has a population of 230,000 people. Asturias is a region of 1,000,000 located on the northern coast of Spain.
At this time we are pleased to announce the names of the following artists for the American delegation:
Seven American Pastel Painters (Siete Pintores Pasteles de América)
Jason Chang, Lorenzo Chavez, Doug Dawson, Alan Flattmann, William Hosner – delegation chair,
Richard McKinley, and Duane Wakeham.
The work of these artists has been long recognized for its excellence and integrity.
Each artist holds a place of high respect in the American pastel community.
Here is what President Del Riego had to say when he received the announcement of the delegate’s
acceptance to participate:
“Querido amigo Bill, this past week we had a meeting of the ASPAS board. I read them your email, and
all the board members are delighted with the delegation. They asked me to thank and congratulate you.”
From California, Oregon, Colorado, New York, Michigan and Louisiana, this group of artists make an
excellent representation of some of the best pastel painting being created in America today.
