Fundraising
Fundraising events are our primary revenue along with sponsorships from corporations,
donations from individuals, and grants. These events serve to raise awareness and provide a great
environment for families to mingle and enjoy themselves. At the same time, we use these events
to raise money that we can then use to financially assist families in need.

by reducing the amount of stress in their lives
so that they can focus more of their attention on their children.
Letter from the Chairman
I’m honored to serve as Board Chair of Angels Among Us. This year we
celebrate 10 years since our founding, and set the vision for our next 10 years.
With your support, we have helped over 250 families during our first ten years.
We see the difference you’ve made for moms and dads that aren’t sure what the
next day will bring, and are just trying to make every moment count.
We can’t fully express how grateful all of the families are for the support you’ve
given. Because of you, moms and dads get to spend more time with their child
fighting against this awful disease and every parent’s greatest fear. Because
of you, we can pay phone bills so families have a lifeline when they are hours
away from home, sometimes for weeks. Because of you, we can pay the electric
bill, so they have a warm bed to crawl into at the end of a day that was filled
with tears. When you support Angels Among Us, you share both the joy and
sorrow with every family we touch.  
As Angels Among Us takes on the next ten years, you can be a comfort for each
family with more than financial support. Our vision for the future includes
growing emotional support services, increasing the amount of financial
support we can provide, and providing that financial support for as long as
they are still in this fight.

About Angels Among Us
We use your support to directly help families in need.
We ensure that your donations go to families who are in the most need of
assistance. Additionally, Angels Among Us pays bills directly to the company
the family owes so that you can be sure that your donations are used
responsibly.
Our mission is to reduce financial burdens on the family as much as possible
so that they can focus on their child. Below is a list of some of our families
most stressful situations we’ve been able to help with:
• Electric, gas, sewer, water to keep the lights on and the water running,
• Rent and mortgage payments so kids have a home to go home to after
treatments,
• Phone and internet so families can stay connected to their support systems,
• Auto payments, insurance, gas cards, plates, and repairs so families can
get to and from work and hospital appointments,
• Medical bills and prescriptions to keep treatments going, and
• Day-Care so every body has a place to go.

stewardship of public trust very
seriously. We are committed to
upholding your trust through
our commitment to the
community to operate in an
efficient and ethical manner.
We adhere to a system of
checks and balances, and are
accountable through an annual
audit and oversight by the
board of directors.
Sometimes, a family faces their worst fears and we assist with
funeral expenses.
Our History
Angels Among Us incorporated in April 2006 and received 501c3
status in June of the same year. Currently, Angels Among Us works with
families of children living in Nebraska, or being treated in Nebraska.
To date, Angels Among Us has helped over 225 families paying out over
$750,000. We will continue to grow as an organization, and with the continued
dedication of our community, there is no end in sight.

The families we work with are amazing, resilient, and somehow find strength in
the face of this chilling disease. Angels Among Us strives toward one primary
principle – adversity in the face of barriers. Our commitment to this principle
and our passionate belief in the families we support drive us to accept nothing
Nick’s Family Story
Right before Christmas last year, what started as a broken leg for our
son, Nick, turned into an aggressive cancer. We were told to
prepare ourselves for a fight and that there was the very real
possibility that he wouldn’t make it.
Maybe my husband and I should have hesitated before
sending a letter to my 30 clients to tell them I was
indefinitely taking a leave of absence. We didn’t
even think about how we would pay the bills. I
suppose we were prepared to lose everything to
save Nick. All we can really remember is that our
lives changed dramatically in what seemed like
overnight, and every decision we made was about
Nick, not about how we would pay the bills, or who
would make dinner that night, or pick his sister
Miley up after school.
That Christmas a friend went shopping for us. It just
didn’t seem like we had time to do anything, and when
we did, we just didn’t want to. She found some Star Wars
Lego sets for him.
The next eight months friends and family would bring Nick more
Lego sets. I think the Lego sets are how he got through all of the chemo,
surgeries, tests, boredom, and pain. We have at least 200 of these sets –
I’ve stopped counting.
On New Year’s Eve, instead of staying up late wondering where my 15
year old was on the big party night, I knew exactly where he was – in
a hospital bed 2 hours away from friends and family, getting his first
round of chemotherapy. We stayed up talking about everything except
why we were sitting in the hospital.

advocacy and our services to these families within our
community.
Family, friends, strangers, and others did fundraisers
that helped us take Nick to Oklahoma for a guy’s
trip with his riding friends. This time mom got to
go and I was so glad to see him enjoying himself.
We were also able to travel to Kansas City and the
Mayo clinic to see specialists that aren’t covered
through insurance or Medicaid.
Angels Among Us made sure we had a home to
come back to. They gave us time to make more
memories. They gave us the peace of mind that we
wouldn’t regret any of the decisions we made while
we focused on Nick. It kept things normal for his little
sister while we were gone, sometimes for weeks, so we
could do treatments, tests, and surgeries.
He told me many times, “Thank you mom, for being
here with me”. I could completely focus on Nick,
which is the way it should be for any parent with a
child with cancer.

Nick Kroeger lost his battle with cancer on
August 17, 2015. Our hearts and prayers are
with Nick, his family and all the other families
that continue to battle this harrowing disease.
I never could have forgiven myself if I couldn’t have been able to completely
focus on Nick. Working seemed so impossible, not just because I spent
many nights awake helping him through the pain, but because of what it
meant to him. Every time I left to run a quick errand he would start texting
me, “Mom, when are you coming home?” He hated being alone.
