Her most dramatic appearances here have been as last-minute substitute for music director Jaap van Zweden, in programs including formidably difficult Shostakovich symphonies. Clearly an enormous talent, she’ll be much missed. But her guest-conducting career is really taking off, including upcoming appearances with the Detroit Symphony and the periodinstruments Concentus Musicus of Vienna. Ruth Reinhardt, a Juilliard-trained Conductor will join the DSO Conducting Staff in September 2016. Music Director Jaap van Zweden and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced the appointment of Ruth Reinhardt as Assistant Conductor. She will conduct youth concerts, select DSO on the GO and ReMix series performances, Dallas Symphony Community and Parks Concerts and other performances as assigned. She will also regularly assist the Music Director and guest conductors. Michael R. and Cathy C. Haynes, Sr. Mari Epperson and Sharon Ballew. The President’s Message As we wrap up the 2015-16 DSOL year, I look back on all the exciting events that have taken place since the last newsletter. In January, the incredible Junior Symphony Ball chairmen – Tasha and Hunter Alexander, Susan and Abby Beiriger , Libe and Michael Hodak, Kathy and Kendall Klingaman, Teresa and Reagan Loftus, Allison and Wade “Buzz” Shike produced a wildly successful event at Photo by James French Gilley’s. Over 2000 area high school students attended and the 2016 JSB went off without a hitch. I want to thank the entire JSB committee for all their effort and hard work and especially the amazing co-chairs – we couldn’t have done it without you! The 30th Annual Presentation Ball was held on February 20th at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Forty fabulous young women officially made their debut into society dressed in miles of white silk and tulle. Everyone made their bow in front of family and friends and after the elegant seated dinner, they danced the night away to the sounds of the Jordan Kahn Music Company. Congratulations to Nancy Labadie and the Ball Committee for an outstanding job. In keeping with my mission as President, I have to brag about our new Salon Series. My goal this year was to educate our membership about the world-class musicians to make up the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Our last Salon Series – An Evening with Doug Howard featured one of the DSO’s percussionists who has produced and starred in a documentary about the Indonesian Gamelan genre of music. He spoke about performing a commissioned work by Stewart Copeland of the Police. At the end of the evening, we all felt like we were Doug’s new best friend. The event was held at the home of Penny Reid and food and wine sere provided by the Salon Series committee. Once again, chairman Elizabeth Rois-Mendez outdid herself and everything was just perfect! In closing, I want to thank all the members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League for their hard work and support this year. I cherish the friendships and the memories I’ve made this year. Special thanks go out to our incredible Director if Volunteer Services, Allison Brodnax. She is truly a miracle worker and one of the nicest women I’ve ever met. I will be turning over the gavel to Sandy Secor in just a few weeks and I wish her much success and as much fun as I have had this year!
