this morning, so any moisture that isn’t gone from
roadways, bridges and sidewalks will freeze, making
the morning commute difficult.
“We will see some black ice,” said Kurt Weber, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Huntsville. Black ice isn’t really black; it’s clear ice that freezes
and appears invisible on roads and other surfaces.
As the weather event passed, Weber said that most
of the snow fell south and east of Madison County in
Cullman, Morgan and Marshall counties. “We’ve had
several reports of around 3 inches,” he

North Alabama disappeared almost
as fast as it came Thursday, but left behind
a slippery, sloshy mess that will make driving treacherous early today.
Snow moved out of North Alabama late in the afternoon, and residents in some areas even got to see the
sun. The afternoon commute started early as schools
and major employers called it a day around lunchtime, but road conditions slowly improved except for

Army officer was convicted
Thursday in federal court in
Huntsville on charges of theft
of government property and
false statements, according to
the U.S. Attorney’s office in Birmingham.
Lieutenant Col. James
O. McLinnaham, 45, who is
stationed at Redstone Arse-
nal in Huntsville, was found
guilty by a jury after a threeday trial before U.S. District
Judge Abdul K. Kallon.
McLinnaham was found
guilty of three counts of making false statements on federal
disclosure forms; one count
of making false statements in
a questionnaire for national
security clearance; and three
