Preparations for Cracker Night are in full swing this week
at King Street Public School. We have lots of excited
students, staff and community members who are busily
preparing a wide range fun activities for the Singleton
community to take part in. Thank you to all of our parent
volunteers, teachers and students who are assisting with
the preparations. I think the Haunted House that is being
organised will be amazing! A special mention to the
Almond and Meyn families who have gathered and cut
the firewood for our raffle. If you haven’t done so yet,
please purchase some raffle tickets from the office. Also,
please let us know if you are available to help out on the
night in any way.
WEEK 4
Stage 2 Return Weary but Happy
Stage 2 had an excellent time at the Point Wolstoncroft
Camp last week. On Friday afternoon, I saw some very
tired but very happy children get off the bus. The Giant
Swing seemed to be one of the more popular activities.
Thank you to our dedicated Stage 2 teachers for
organising this opportunity for our students and spending
time away from their own families.

Wellbeing of our Students Valued
Please be aware that we have an immunosuppressed student in our school. If your child
develops a contagious disease, please let the school
know ASAP. If you are unsure if the condition is
contagious, please still notify your class teacher or
the office so we can act accordingly.

Cross Country Results
Students Participate in ‘Sport in Schools’
Once again we would like to congratulate our
students for a very competitive Cross Country
Carnival.
The following were the results for each age
4
group. Students placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be
competing at the Zone Cross Country Carnival.
For 8 weeks on Mondays this term, King Street
Public School has engaged the services of ‘Sport in
Schools Australia’. They are running a combined
skills and social behaviour program. All classes are
participating in 30 minute lessons which involve
physical activities. As they participate the children
are developing social values such as cooperation,
sharing, resilience and problem solving. The school
is covering the total cost for this term as we see it as
an essential part of every child's development.
Please feel free to come and watch a session.

1B Collaborate in our New Learning Space
Last term 1B completed activities in the
Collaboration Space to enhance their work in literacy
based on the book “Looking for Crabs.” Using the
green screen and images from the internet, students
were filmed reading their book “on location” at the
beach without leaving the school! They also
modelled small sea creatures from plasticine and
created a rockpool scene which they brought to life
using the animation app, Lego Movie. The students
were very proud of the result.
We would love to share the finished product with
you. Please follow the following link to view their
work:

TERM 2 | WEEK 3
Exciting New Technology Continues
Arrive Thanks to P&C
to
Late last week we were very excited to receive 2
new
4 Commbox’s for use in 2 of our classrooms. The
Commbox’s have been generously purchased by
our P&C along with 2 new computers to run them.
They will be replacing 2 of our older smartboards in
S2N and S2S.
The new technology is an update of the
smartboards-still interactive with a much clearer
picture. There is less maintenance required and the
running costs are much lower. We are very excited
to offer this equipment to our students and sincerely
thank the P&C for their generous commitment to
technological advances at our school.
Year 2 to Year 6
Excursion to see Star Struck
Star Struck is a live 3 hour spectacular presented by
Hunter Public Schools. A cast of over 3500 children
singing and dancing give a performance you will long
remember.
On Friday 17th June we will have an excursion to
Newcastle Entertainment Centre to see the matinee
performance. Anyone in Year 2 or Primary plus parents,
grandparents and friends are welcome to attend. If you
would like younger students to go, there has to be an
adult accompanying them.
The cost of the excursion will be $40 for students and
$46 for adults this includes your ticket and bus travel.
If interested please fill out the form below and return to
the office with the money included.
As the Entertainment Centre requires payment, we ask
that the note and money be returned to the office by
MONDAY 16TH MAY.
Tyanna and Joseph learning with our new technology
Sorry, we are unable to give refunds on the tickets as
we are unable to get a refund from The
Entertainment Centre.
Students Begin Eisteddfod Preparations
Thank you,
Each year King Street has wonderful representation
at the Muswellbrook Eisteddfod and 2016 is no
exception. 3 infants and 6 primary classes have
begun learning items to present to the judges at the
competition which will be held in week 7. We also
have some Stage 2 students preparing a readers
theatre item and a Stage 3 group rehearsing a play
for the event.
Jenny Stewart
We congratulate the students for their commitment
as this is often an activity taking them out of their
‘comfort zone’. We look forward to some great
results!
