CCLLEN is ready for new contract ...
Thank you to everyone for your support of our Annual
General Meeting. If you would like a copy of our
Annual Report you can download it from our website
under the Resources tab, or request a hardcopy from
our office.
At this stage we are still waiting for information from
the Department of Education and Training on the
scope of our new contract for the next four years.
Once we have that we will be talking to our members
and stakeholders as we prepare our strategic plan for
2016-2019.
The Workplace Learning Coordinator program will
cease at the end of this year. At this stage there is no
indication that anything will take its place.
Although we are operating in a period of uncertainty
all of the CCLLEN team are continuing to work
enthusiastically on the projects we have ahead of us
for the rest of this year. There is much ahead with the
Murray River Culinary Challenge, Echuca Moama Youth
Expo, School Friendly Business, Information and
Communication Technology careers day, LEAP into
Health, VET in School Excellence Awards and further
roll out of Let’s Read Campaspe.
We are proud of the number of solid partnerships
developed with schools, businesses and community
organisations that will be good foundations for our
future work, whatever our contract scope requires.

School Friendly Business
May and June saw the continuation of our successful
School Friendly Business events in Cohuna, Rochester,
Kyabram and Echuca Moama. The theme for these
events was ‘Inspiring Workplace Learning’ with the
focus on enabling young people’s first taste of work to
be meaningful and stimulating.
At the Echuca lunch Brendan Caffery from Claas
Harvest Centre and Jodie Watson from Echuca
Regional Health presented.
Kerrie Siderow and Glenda Groves from Gannawarra
Library Services, along with Tonie Kelly from AWMA,
spoke at the Cohuna breakfast.
At Rochester, Anne McEvoy from Rochester Elmore
and District Health Services, Rochester Secondary
College student James Bolitho and Careers Teacher
Colin Huddy spoke.
Cassia Colbeck and Bayden Fallon from Goulburn
Murray Water and St Augustine’s and Kyabram P-12
students, Bonnie Simpson and Jaykie Lowe, were guest
presenters at the Kyabram breakfast.
All the presenters spoke about their positive
experiences and passed on advice about having
students in the workplace. CCLLEN’s Workplace
Learning Coordinator Jacq Campbell spoke at each
event on the ‘Work Inspiration’ program, the objective
of which is to introduce students to a particular
workplace and the opportunities within that
organisation.
All events revealed a similar message that when
workplace learning is inspirational, realistic,
undertaken enthusiastically and well supported with
inductions, feedback processes, mentoring and is
inclusive of all staff it is of enormous benefit to both
students and employers alike. These School Friendly
Business events enable valuable networking
opportunities between businesses and school
communities.

Kyabram ICT Event
Students from Kyabram and Rushworth P-12 Colleges
came together for an exciting interactive event to learn
about and experience first-hand the many career and
study options in the ever expanding field of
Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The CCLLEN facilitated and hosted the event which
featured workshops presented by higher education and
industry representatives. Technology in areas ranging
from games, robotics, applications, what drives a
computer, graphic design and CSIRO bushfire research
was featured. The presenters were from Goulburn
Ovens TAFE, Advance Computing Kyabram, La Trobe
University Bendigo & Bundoora campuses, Splatoon
Cartoons Beechworth and the CSIRO.
Feedback from the students on the day included
comments such as: I liked how there was a range of
activities to engage everyone; People with experience
explained their work; We learnt different things that I
never thought would have so many options in ICT; ICT
can be a gateway to an infinite number of careers.
All up – a great day.
Dookie Agriculture/Horticulture Career Days
On 14 & 15 May over 150 students from Rushworth
P-12 College, Kyabram P-12 College, Rochester
Secondary College, Echuca College and Moama
Anglican Grammar Schools attended the Dookie
Agriculture & Horticulture Careers Day. The days were
organized in partnership with the University of
Melbourne, GMLLEN, NE TRACKS LLEN and CCLLEN.
The workshops gave students an insight to a particular
section of farming, the educational requirements of
that particular area and the job opportunities within
that field. The day was very successful and planning has
already commenced on next year’s event where it is
hoped to offer students even more workshops.
The students associated with these particular
LLENs were given the opportunity to participate in
four out of nine workshops. The nine workshops
were Beef/Dairy; Wool/Sheep; Amenity
Horticulture/Conservation Land management;
Horticulture/Wine Production; Get Into Genes;
Veterinary Technology; Animal Science; Plant
Science; and Urban Horticulture: Green Roofs.

Rochester Apprentice Info Night
Rochester Secondary College held a Careers
Information Night for those interested in a trade or
traineeship. It was a very valuable evening, with
presentations from MEGT on apprenticeships and
the CCLLEN on advice for students seeking
employment or work experience.
There was also a panel of employers that talked
about their industry and how they came to choose
their current profession. They provided very
practical advice to students on how to best prepare
for a career in a trade. Ex students talked about their
experiences in moving into Traineeships and
Apprenticeships and the challenges they face.
