Faience Aryballos
Description
This faience vase is a typical
example of artistic amalgamation
in the ancient Mediterranean.
It bears the cartouche (royal
symbol) of Pharaoh Amasis.
Shaped in the typical 6th c. BC
Greek pottery form (Corinthian
aryballos), this perfume oil
container was made and inscribed
in Egypt, and then exported to
Cyprus, to end up in the tomb of
an elite person at Marion.
