Projections immersives grand format, entrevues
vidéo, borne de consultation, œuvres originales et
documents d’archives de la collection du musée, le
Symposium se découvre ou se redécouvre à travers
une exposition multimédia étonnante. Comme lors
du Symposium, pas de contemplation silencieuse;
le public est convié à expérimenter un parcours
d’exposition à volets interactifs. La rencontre entre
artiste et visiteur se poursuit… et l’art « sympose » !

The Symposium is discovered or rediscovered through
this amazing multimedia exhibition which features
giant projection screens, video interviews, information
terminals, original works and archival documents from
the museum’s collection. The Symposium is not
conducive to silent contemplation, nor is this exhibition.
The public follows the pathway of an interactive
presentation that runs through engulfing installations.
Again, the visitor meets the artist… and art “prevails”!

Since 1982, the International Symposium of
Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul has been
putting its imprint on the cultural life of Québec.
To this day, it remains unique as a locus of artistic
creation and as a meeting place. People come here
to observe moments of creation and to exchange
with artists regarding the conception and the actual
production of a work of art.

The fostering of direct contact between art and the
public is the founding purpose of the Symposium.
The intent of the exhibition entitled Free Exchange Zone
mounted by the Musée d’art contemporain de
Baie-Saint-Paul is to make this major artistic event
better known, through its history and the collection
of works that it has generated, and through
testimonials regarding the scope of its influence.
About 400 artists, 550 works, three decades of
encounters and creation… there’s a great story to
be told and the museum tells it!
Depuis 1982, le Symposium international d’art
contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul marque la vie
culturelle au Québec et demeure un moment
exceptionnel de création et de rencontre. On y vient
pour observer la création en action, échanger avec
les artistes et mieux comprendre les aspects de la
conception et de la réalisation d’une œuvre d’art.

Parce que le Symposium est né d’une volonté de
favoriser un rapport direct entre l’art et le public, le
Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul réalise
l’exposition Zone de libres échanges afin de faire
connaître cet événement artistique majeur à travers
son histoire, la collection d’œuvres qu’il a générée
et les témoignages sur l’étendue de son influence.
Plus de 400 artistes, 550 œuvres, trois décennies de
créations et de rencontres, ça se raconte !
