André Assous - The King of Espadrilles
André Assous is a Euro-American
shoe designer, artist, civil engineer,
and founder of andré assous.
Known as the “King of Espadrilles” in
the fashion footwear industry, André
designed and engineered the iconic
handsewn espadrille shoe that
became a fashion statement in
the1970s. He developed and
defined the espadrille market with
his first style, Pamela.
For 40 years, André has been a
pioneer in the art of shoe
craftsmanship with his signature
European collections. The brand has
evolved with the generations and
now is “upping the ante” with fresh
styles, new textiles and innovative
design techniques.

BRAND EVOLUTION
Although André’s House of Espadrilles Collection is the brand’s “core DNA,” the
brand has creatively evolved with the generations, now recalibrated and
condensed into masterful collections using textiles and materials that marry beauty
with comfort.
1970’s – The Beginning
André became a well-known footwear designer by introducing the jute
wrapped espadrille to the United States.
1980’s – Becoming the King of Espadrilles
Recognized as a pioneer in the industry, André’s European inspired Espadrille
designs were featured in salon stores such as Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth
Avenue.

1990’s – An Industry Icon
Remaining true to his core “House of Espadrilles,” André’s European inspired
designs included loafers, moccasins, and light weight comfort sandals. All
designs encompassed André’s euro-American style, engineering knowledge
and love for art.
