to the region each year. From the Bristol Motor Speedway to the Paramount,

vital role in promoting regional tourism.
The goal of our Heritage Tourism Summit is to bring together tourism partners who share a common goal in the industry. Better networking is key to
even greater success in attracting more tourists to our area and stimulating
our economy.

Tourism is currently the 2nd largest Tennessee industry, with an economic impact of
$17.7 billion, a 6.3% increase over the previous year and an all-time high for the state.
Tourism generates 152,900 jobs for Tennesseans and produces $1.5 billion in state and
local sales tax revenue. Travel to Tennessee
recently topped 100 million.
KEVIN TRIPLETT
Commissioner of Tennessee Department of Tourism Development
Kevin Triplett was appointed in April, 2015 to the cabinet of Governor Bill
Haslam as commissioner of Tourist Development. Prior to joining Gov. Haslam’s team, Triplett served Bristol Motor Speedway as vice-president of
public affairs, overseeing government and community relations, special
initiatives such as tourism and community relationships, and development.
Before joining BMS in January 2005, Triplett worked for NASCAR, the
sport’s sanctioning body from March 1994 until June 2003, beginning in
the public relations department, overseeing several of NASCAR’s 50th Anniversary projects. He ended his tenure with NASCAR as managing director
of business operations. In that position he directed operation and administration aspects of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and
Camping World Truck Series.
The East Tennessee State graduate also managed media and public relations for several NASCAR sponsors, teams and drivers, including Dale Earnhardt.
Triplett is married to the former Jill Mumpower of Bristol, Virginia. They
have two children, Lucas William and Sarah Grace.

CLAUDIA MOODY
Claudia Moody is the Chief Executive Officer of the Northeast Tennessee Tourism
Association (NETTA). Moody is a native of the region and has an extensive background in corporate management and administration in the hospitality industry.
Prior to joining NETTA in 1989, she served as Vice President of Operations of a
regional management company, which owned and operated six full-service hotels.
Moody has served as Chairman of the Tennessee Tourism Roundtable (TTR), the
Tennessee representative to the Appalachian Regional Commission Tourism
Council, and currently serves on the board of directors for the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association (TnTHA), treasurer of the Kingsport CVB, Tri-Cities
Regional Airport Marketing Committee, and numerous regional and local organizations.
She received the “2001 Knights of the Roundtable” award during the Tennessee
Governor’s Conference on Tourism for outstanding contributions of leadership,
services and professionalism in the Tourism Industry. She also received the first
“Associate Award of Excellence” presented by the Tennessee Hotel & Lodging
Association. She is a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and has attained the
ratings of Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA), and was among the first ten Tennessee tourism professions to receive the Certified TN Tourism Professional
(CTTP) designation.
LEAH ROSS
Leah Ross is the Executive Director of the Birthplace of Country Music. Over the
past 15 years, Ross has played an integral role in the development and growth of
Bristol establishing its identity as the birthplace of country music. From serving
as a Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion volunteer during the first Festival in 2001 to
becoming the executive director of the Festival in 2005. In 2011, Bristol Rhythm
& Roots Reunion and the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance merged, and Ross
was named executive director. Today, Ross continues to lead the Birthplace of
Country Music team that oversees the Birthplace of Country Music Museum,
Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, and the new WBCM Radio Bristol.
Ross is very involved in the local community serving on the Board of the Directors
for the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Virginians for the Arts, and Virginia’s
Crooked Road as well as a member of the Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage
Commission marketing committee. Over the years Ross has also been honored
with a number of awards, including, the Service Award for the Bristol Convention
and Visitors Bureau, a recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Women for the Arts
award, and a graduate of International Bluegrass Music Association Leadership
Class. She was also recognized by the Bristol Noon Rotary club with a Paul Harris
Fellow honor.
