UCONN ROUTS LOUISVILLE 72-52 TO
WIN AMERICAN ATHLETIC TITLE
New league, same result. It's another championship
for UConn. Breanna Stewart scored 20 points and topranked Connecticut beat No. 3 Louisville on March 10
to win the inaugural American Athletic tournament.
It's the 19th conference tournament championship for
the Huskies, who won their first 18 in the Big East.
With the victory, UConn (34-0) becomes the 14th
team to enter the NCAA tournament without a loss. It's
the sixth time that the Huskies have accomplished that
feat. They've gone on to win the national championship
four of those years.

2000 National Title
Motivated by the Iowa State loss in the 1999 tournament, UConn came back with intent to reach
the championship level again. Led by upperclassmen Shea Ralph, Kelly Schumacher, and Svetlana Abrosimova, UConn went through the regular season with a 27-1 record. Its only loss was
a 1 point loss to Tennessee at home.

UConn’s Defense Rescues Huskies for Seventh Title
The shots weren’t falling for Tina Charles and Connecticut, so the Huskies did what they do
better than any team in NCAA tournament history. UConn clamped down on the defensive end,
swarming Stanford, swatting shots and making that 12-point first half nothing more than a minor
setback on the way to a 53-47 victory in the NCAA championship game April 7, 2010.
