Choose the right glove
There is a perfect glove for every task. A glove makes the job
easier, more comfortable and – most importantly – safer. You just
have to find it. We’re here to help you!
This is what you do:
1 Specify the kind of task(s) the glove will be used for. Welding? Assembly
or offshore work? Indoor or outdoor? Bear in mind that every pair of gloves is specially designed for a certain job. And the fact that each pair of
gloves is especially adapted for a parrticular job reduces the number of
work-related injuries.
2 Read through the material facts. Which material is most suitable for
your work? Leather, PVC, nitrile or something else? Are you going to be
working with chemicals or do you need to protect your work from fingerprints? Don’t forget that every material has specific qualities, each of
which is perfect for a specific job.
3 And finally, weigh up these factors against each other. Even take into
account the price at this stage. Do you want to invest in a simpler glove
with a normal lifespan or a more expensive quality glove that will last
longer? It often pays to invest in quality, not least because poor quality
gloves don’t get used.

MICRO FOAM
Working with gloves all day can be a major
a strain on the skin. The polyurethane coating
on traditionally manufactured gloves can also
be found on the inside of the gloves, which
results in fast generation of heat and sweating. These gloves are manufactured with a
micro-foam technique that is 100% waterbased, silicone-free and entirely free from
solvents.
The slightly perforated coating allows the
skin to breathe and all sweat is quickly absorbed despite the fact that the material is both
water and oil proof. In addition our ”stretchto-fit” design makes the gloves extremely
elastic, resulting in a perfect fit.

thread for the entire glove. But the most
important thing is of course fit.

Our range of ProTec work gloves feels
lightweight due to the material on the back
of the hand. The material and double
seams are extra strong, to endure the
rough stuff.
All models are designed to last a long time.
Many other gloves give at the seams, particularly at the index finger. In addition all
models have an inbuilt elastic band, which
helps prevent unnecessary injuries.
The material on the back of the hand is
specially procured, allowing us to supervise
the entire production process. We can therefore guarantee that each ProTec work

Ruff Fisherman (the red glove) is the favourite of
most fishermen. They value the fit and the grip-friendly
coating (fish grip), which provides a great grip on damp
equipment and slippery fish. Ruff Resistent (the black
glove) is suitable for work with oil, degreasing agents
and other chemical products.

North’s range of chemical resistant garments are manufactured using double coated Ferranyl with ultrasonic
welded seams. Using materials such as butyl, Viton and 4H for their full suits, hoods, masks and gloves, they
provide total protection against most industrial chemicals and gases. The gloves are available in a variety of
thicknesses with rugged or smooth surfaces depending on the area of use. All of North’s suits are re-usable.
They are based upon the same principles as the chemical protection gloves and are adapted to the various

Syntheticgloves
There are a number of different types of synthetic glove. And different gloves protect you
from different substances.
A lot of people prefer natural materials, but
there are a number of situations where synthetic
gloves are the obvious choice.
The material chosen should reflect the substances the glove is going to come into contact with.
Nitrile rubber is a synthetic alternative to natural
rubber. It is durable and resistant to sharp
objects. It is also perfect for people with glove
allergies.
Latex gloves are made from natural rubber and
are produced mainly in Malaysia. The gloves are
comfortable to wear, but can cause allergic reactions. Vinyl gloves are made from PVC. In such a
slim design they are primarily suitable for protecting from water, oil and grease. Neoprene gloves
are durable and resistant to such things as ketones and organic solvents.

Winter work gloves
Every job requires a special lining. Make the right choice! A glove with GORE-TEX
membrane effectively protects against the wet, retains heat and provides the highest level of
comfort. The GORE-TEX membrane is sewn into the glove between the glove’s lining and outer
shell. Thinsulate lining insulates extremely well. The lining consists of microfibres, making the
gloves extremely flexible.
Teddy lining is warm and comfortable, but not particularly suitable for precision work. if you
want a slimmer, more flexible winter glove, you should choose a glove with a fleece or Schanker
lining.

Categorisation of our
gloves
Categorisation of our protective gloves
All personal protective equipment is covered by EU regulations, namely the 89/686/EEC and 93/68/CEE
directives. There are three categories of protective glove covering the various risks they protect against,
in accordance with approved CE standards.
Category 1: Simple design
These gloves protect hands that are exposed to minimal risks. The group includes household gloves and
standard simple work gloves and gardening gloves.
Category 2: Intermediate design
The gloves in this group must be tested and approved by an approved testing institute. In addition they
should be approved by the relevant authority. These gloves are marked with a pictogram, which shows
the gloves’ protective function and test results in accordance with EN388 as a
four-digit code.
Category 3: Complex design
Choose gloves from this category if there is a risk of serious or permanent injury. For example when
handling extremely aggressive chemicals. These gloves are tested and approved by the relevant testing institute and should in addition be approved by a relevant authority. Manufacturing should also
meet relevant quality standards. In addition to CE marking, there should also be a four-digit code
indicating the responsible inspection group.
CE standards for protective gloves against mechanical risks, EN388:
Four different qualities are tested. The higher the number, the better the qualities:
a. Resistance to abrasion. The material is exposed to abrasion/grinding under a particular pressure. The protective function is indicated on a scale, which is based upon the number of cycles
required to cause a hole in the material.
b. Blade cut resistance. The material is exposed to a cutting movement by a round blade, where the
number of revolutions required to cut through the glove material is counted.
c. Tear resistance. The power (newton) required to tear the gloves apart.

Leather
Material facts
Leather is a natural material with unique qualities that cannot be found in synthetic materials. Its durability is due to the fact that it adapts to temperature and changes in humidity by absorbing and letting through moisture. It is also comfortable against the skin. Leather
consists of a three-dimensional fibre weave which makes it possible to sew right up to the edge, providing increased strength and mouldability. If you choose gloves made of grain, i.e. the upper edge of leather, you are getting a soft, durable and wear-resistant glove,
which is also water-resistant. If you however choose a glove that is sewn with the leather’s inner side outwards, the so-called split leather,
you are getting other qualities such as good grip and heat-resistance.
Different kinds of leather
Pigskin leather is a good, cheap material that breathes well, due to the perforations from the pig’s bristle. The leather is pliable, but not as
water-resistant as cowhide. Cowhide is very durable and water-resistant; suitable for the really heavy-duty work. Goatskin is characterised
by dexterity and durability. Sheepskin is perfect when a high degree of dexterity is required, slightly less durable than goatskin gloves, but
suitable for the lighter jobs that require a little more sensitivity in your fingers.
Amara
Amara is a synthetic leather made up of a mix of polyamides and polyeurythane. The material is waterproof and machine washable. It
breathes well, due to the conical pores that release moisture. No softener has been used in manufacturing. Amara can therefore be used
by people with chrome allergies.
ThinsulateTM
Thinsulate™ insulation material gives your clothes and accessories warmth, comfort and freedom. Thinsulate is made up of fibres that are
smaller than a tenth of a piece of hair and therefore captures the maximum amount of air in the material, which leads to optimum insulation. The insulation is soft and flexible and therefore perfect for children and active people such as construction workers and sportsmen. Children and active people need room to be able to move about freely, materials that keep them warm despite being exposed to
rain or water, and material that is easy to look after.
GORE-TEX®
GORE-TEX® is the brand of material developed by W.L Gore & Associates. The material is a microporous ePTFE membrane with wind and waterproof qualities, while at the same time being able to breathe. The membrane contains millions of pores per cm2. Each pore is smaller than a
drop of water but several times larger than water vapour molecules. Condensed sweat therefore passes through it easily.
WINDSTOPPER®
WINDSTOPPER® is a brand of material developed by W.L Gore & Associates. The WINDSTOPPER® membrane is windproof and has a high
breathing ability, but is not completely waterproof. The windchill effect is devastating. With WINDSTOPPER® gloves you are protected
against heat-loss and you can exert yourself harder without condensation problems.
M-texTM
M-tex™ keeps out water, while releasing all excess moisture, keeping your hands warm and dry.
M-breakerTM
M-breaker™ resists cold winds. The material breathes well and keeps your hands warm and dry.
Natural rubber
Gloves made from natural rubber have a much better tensile strength and are also cheaper. These gloves fit well and are comfortable to
wear. In some cases, they can cause allergies; something to be aware of. The material is relatively resistant to water-based chemicals.
Synthetic
Nitrile is extremely durable and resistant to blade cuts. Nitrile gloves are in addition shape-resistant, provide a good grip and are an affordable alternative to traditional work gloves. Nitrile is particularly resistant to oil-based chemicals. Neoprene is slightly less durable than
nitrile gloves, but resists better to acid, ketones, grease and organic solvents. PVC is very durable and resistant against tears. Other positive qualities are that the material provides an exceptional wet grip and retains its softness even in cold weather.
Cotton
Cotton is perhaps the most comfortable material you can have next to your skin. It has a number of unique qualities that are very useful in work gloves. Apart
from the fact that cotton gloves breathe very well, they are comfortable and durable and do not generate static electricity. Interlock are simple knitted cotton gloves, commonly used as inner gloves for increased comfort and warmth. Jersey is a special material containing more cotton. One side is brushed so that the glove
is more comfortable to wear.
