Ball State claimed the 2002 MAC Tournament Championship with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Akron in the title match,
which was played at Worthen Arena. Ball State has claimed three MAC Tournament titles on the Worthen
Arena hardwood floor (1994, 1999 and 2002) and is 15-1 in tournament
play in the building.

league school. In addition, BSU has a league-record 26 MAC Tournament victories, while tying for
league-high honors with six MAC Tournament Championships.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
While she only played two seasons at
Ball State, Amanda McCormick made
a huge impact in the Ball State record
book, setting seven school records
from 2005-06. McCormick finished
her senior season with an NCAA
record 7.68 digs-per-game average,
topping the previous mark of 7.02.
The first player in school history to
earn National Player of the Week
accolades, McCormick was the 2006
CVU.com National Libero of the Year.
Ball State is the home of the MidAmerican Conference’s career statistical
leaders in assists, kills and digs.
Emily Sallee (left) finished her career
with 6,408 assists from 1997-2000.
Stephanie Keller (middle) collected
2,273 digs for Ball State from 2001-04.
Sarah Obras (right) smashed
1,975 kills in her BSU career,
which spanned from 2002-05.
Sallee’s assist total and Keller’s
dig total still rank in the top 10 in
NCAA history.

LEADERS IN THE MAC
Karen Granning was the first All-Mid-American
Conference First Team honoree in program history,
claiming the award in 1980 and again in 1982.
Overall, BSU players have earned All-MAC First
Team accolades a total of 28 times. BSU’s 69
All-MAC selections and 28 All-MAC First Team
selections rank second in league annals.
April Hoeltke was the first Mid-American
Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player
in program history, claiming the award in 1992.
Overall, BSU players have earned MAC AllTournament honors 24 times, including six
MVP awards. Both are league record
records.

Megan Hammons (1998-2001) earned
a spot on the Grand Rapids Force of the
now defunct United States Professionnal
Volleyball League. Hammons also played
for AMVJ Amstelveen, a professional
team in Holland. BSU’s three other
professional players are pictured

In August of 2004,
BSU spent 10 days
in and around Sao
Paulo, Brazil, posting
a 2-6 record against
some of the top
club programs in
the country.
Since 1989, the Ball State women’s volleyball
team has played a match in 28 of the 50 states,
including a 1999 trip to Alaska. The Cardinals
have even played in Washington, D.C., competing
in the 2005 Georgetown Hoya Classic.

Ball State has a 176-40 (.815) Record in Worthen Arena, Including a 134-19 (.876) Mark Versus MAC Teams.
From Sept. 27, 1999 to Nov. 20,
2001, Ball State women’s volleyball
fans saw the Cardinals string together
one of the most impressive homecourt winning streaks in NCAA history,
as BSU claimed 42-straight match
wins at Worthen Arena. The total ties
as the 16th-best in NCAA annals.
In addition, from Nov. 18, 1997 to
Sept. 27, 2003, the Cardinals tallied
57-straight wins versus Mid-American
Conference foes at Worthen Arena,
including winning the 1999 and 2002
MAC Tournaments on the court.

BALL STATE VOLLEYBALL
IN THE MEDIA
The Ball State Sports Network is slated to broadcast a
pair of women’s volleyball home matches this season. The
network will televise the Sept. 9 match versus IUPUI and the
Nov. 15 contest against Northern Illinois.
Wil Hampton serves as the play-by-play analyst for the
Cardinals, while former four-year BSU letterwinner and
Academic All-American Rhonda (Gardemann) Murr provides
the color commentary.
The Ball State women’s volleyball team has the
most comprehensive radio package in the MidAmerican Conference, as WCRD 91.3 FM will once
again be the radio home of the Cardinals for the
2008 season.
The station is slated to cover 12 of the Cardinals
13 home matches this season, as well as all of BSU’s
2008 Mid-American Conference Tournament action.
In addition, the state-of-the art WCRD studio will
be the home of “Serving It Up” with Dave Boos, a
weekly volleyball report which airs Monday nights
from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 1.
