LIVING HIS LIFE, SHARING HIS LIFE IN THE BOOK OF ACTS
Beginning July 10 we will take a journey through the Book of Acts. During this venture we will
explore how the early church lived in and witnessed to a new Life in Christ Jesus. Their new life in
Christ Jesus was dynamic, filled with the Holy Spirit, remarkably life-giving, full of grace, and fruitful
in His Love. We at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church have the same living Lord, and we also
have received His Life, and seek both to live His Life and share His Life. As we study eight passages
from the Book of Acts, let’s learn from our early brothers and sisters in Christ and see what our Lord
did with them; and what our Lord can do with us in the twenty-first century. This will be our prayer
throughout the summer (Ephesians 3:16-19):

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your
inner being,17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted
and established in love,18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how
wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses
knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

The Upside of Turning the World Upside Down
*July 24 We will have an excellent guest preacher/teacher, Dr. Phil Jamieson. Dr. Phil
Jamieson has served many years teaching in seminary, as well as serving churches. He is from Ohio
and is now the director of our United Methodist Church Foundation of the Tennessee and Memphis
Conferences. On the day he preaches, Dr. Jamieson will also host a special workshop in our
Fellowship Hall to help people maximize their giving in regard to estate and tax planning. The
workshop will take place Sunday, July 24, at 3:00 p.m.

Music Ministry Notes
Greetings once again from our Music Ministry! Summer is in the air and it is a wonderful
time to be outdoors enjoying God’s creations! June was not as busy for our musicians, but
July will be. Our annual Music Mixer worship service will be Wednesday, July 27, at
6:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary. This service involves all our church musicians, so the combined
choirs, our Praise Band, REVƎLATION, both handbell choirs, and our organist and pianist will
all be involved. Make plans to attend and bring family and friends for an evening of worship
through music! This is our way of thanking YOU for your support and prayers!
I would like to thank Taylor Deck for sharing her voice with us in all worship services on
June 12. Taylor is the youngest daughter of our pianist, Annetta Deck, and she has a special
gift and talent in music! As always, I want to thank Shirley and Annetta for their continuing
work! It’s wonderful to have so many talented musicians in our church.
I also want to thank our Praise Band, REVƎLATION, for providing music for our Ice Cream
Social on June 18. The weather was beautiful and everyone enjoyed a great afternoon of
fun, fellowship, and praise music. These musicians are Annetta Deck, Nancy Winn,
David Odegaard, Tommy St. John, Wade England, and myself. Again, we are very blessed to
have musicians of this caliber and it is a great pleasure for me to work with these people!
May I get an Amen?!
As an FYI, our choirs and handbells will have some time off in August, so I will be having
guest soloists in our traditional worship services. However, our Praise Band will not take
time off. So if you want to experience a different worship experience, join us in Sacred
Encounters at 9:30.
I encourage you to take the time and thank ALL of our church musicians for their talent, time, and
offerings of music! They are a blessing!

Choirs. Please don’t forget that the main
entrée will be provided, so it is a MUST that
you sign-up if you plan to attend so we can
purchase the appropriate quantity of food.
Sign-up sheets will be available in Fellowship
Hall following worship services, and across
from the Church Office during the week, from
July 17 through July 24.
At sign-up, attendees will be requested to
indicate what type of side dish/dessert they
will be bringing. Please label any serving
dishes and/or utensils with your name for
easy identification at the end of the evening.
Once again, attendees will be asked to
bring their own table service (plates &
silverware). Beverages, cups, and glasses will
be provided.
Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available
in Fellowship Hall following worship services,
and across from the Church Office during the
week starting July 3. So, please join our Choirs
and help make this event a huge success. If
you have any questions, please contact

fellowship! We meet on the
second Monday of the month, at 5:30 p.m.,
for a brief social time and then play games
from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Everyone brings a small

night on the second Tuesday of this month.

meeting of the UMW on Wednesday, July 13.
Karen Martin, from the Cumberland County
School Supply Depot, will be sharing her story
with us. We will also be collecting school
supplies that day to give to Karen. The School
Supply Depot was established in 2003 to
provide basic school supplies for children in
grades K-12. Please meet in Fellowship Hall
about 9:15 a.m. and then stay after the
presentation for a time of fellowship.
Thanks to all of you for your kind
thoughts and healing prayers
during my recent surgeries. I
appreciate the calls, cards, food and visits.

School Supplies
Needed
Friendly Visitors Needed
It is time again for Cumberland
County School Supply Depot to
collect school supplies for the next school
year, which begins August 4. A collection box
will be set up in the Sunday School wing for
you to help them assemble the student school
bags that will be distributed. A list of supplies
needed will be on the table in the hall. This
collection will begin June 26 and run through
July 28. Be on the lookout for bargains and
help the kids of Cumberland County! Call

The Friendly Visitors of Fairfield Glade
United Methodist Church are in need of a few
more people—men and women—to visit with
parishioners, both in their homes and in The
“Son” Room, our new respite ministry for
adults here at the church. No special talents
are required; just the ability to “visit”. For

Church Library News
This month we are highlighting a group of books, which we have labeled as “Story
Collections.” They are actually two series of books, which the Guidepost published a
number of years ago to raise money to finance their Outreach programs. The books in
the series were written by different authors. Originally we had put them with regular
fiction, but have now decided to shelf them at the end of the series sections.
The first series is called “Secrets of Mary’s Bookshop.” Mary Fisher has moved to Cape Cod to
live with her sister after the death of her husband. She buys a bookshop and finds herself often
trying to solve a mystery.
The second series is called “Grace Chapel Inn.” Three sisters have converted their family home
into a bed and breakfast. The three sisters are often called to live out their faith as individuals when
challenges come into their lives. Both series are not difficult reading, and they are definitely
entertaining.

The Road To Carmel by David Davis (206 Dav) [New Book Cart]

This is an enlightening book about a man accepting the call to the Lord and dedicating himself to
His service. Davis was a successful actor and director on Broadway, and, at the same time, a
college drama professor at New York City. He knew something was missing in his life and heard
David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and The Switchblade, was creating a new church in New York
City. He and his wife, Karen, went to hear Wilkerson teach at the new Times Square Church and
both were immediately consumed with God’s presence. From this first beginning, he gave up his
career to grow in the church and felt a calling to go to Israel, where he ultimately created a church
and a drug rehab center treating hundreds. This book covers the often rough road from Times
Square to a new worship center on Mount Carmel.

Trinity Franklin has no family except perhaps a ninety-year old aunt. When the railroad makes
known it would like to purchase the land on which Trinity lives, she must find her aunt who has the
deed to the property. By a series of incidents she comes into contact with Jones, an employee for
the railroad. Their relationship is certainly an up and down adventure for both, but God does have
a plan for both of them.
