COLLECTION FOR MISSIONARY SISTERS
WELCOME SISTER LISA!
This weekend we are happy to welcome Sister Lisa Valentini,
MSC – a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus –
who has come to share information and experiences with us
here at St. Michael’s Church about the mission endeavors of
her Sisters. Sister Lisa’s Congregation was founded as a Missionary Order in the year 1900 – and at the moment there are
735 MSC Sisters serving Our Lord by spreading the Good
News in 21 countries around the world. Sister Lisa has been a
missionary for over 30 years – and is very happy to be able to
tell us about the ministry of her sisters and about her own missionary work in Perú, Mexico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Today’s second collection will give us a unique opportunity to be a part of the work of the MSC Sisters. Please be
generous! Thank you and God bless you.

Update; Parish Meeting. The next step in the Faith
in Our Future (FIOF) process is to respond to the preliminary recommendations of the Diocesan Planning
Commission (DPC) by October 1, 2016. As part of that
effort, we will have a parish meeting of registered St.
Michael’s parishioners to explain Faith in Our Future
more fully and have a conversation about it. The meeting’s agenda will be limited to Faith in Our Future and
to questions, concerns, and opinions pertaining to that
specific topic and to the DPC’s preliminary recommendations. We will use the current list of registered St.
Michael’s parishioners for an admission/sign-in sheet.
The parish meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9
from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Upper Church.
Background. The response of the DPC to our Cohort’s suggestions was published in our July 17 Parish
bulletin and posted on the Parish and Diocesan websites on July 8. The DPC’s suggestions included
“linking” St. Michael’s with a merged St. Jerome’s and
St. Mary’s. These preliminary recommendations of the
DPC (as part of the FIOF process) were also addressed
in the July 24 bulletin. Two-page special inserts regarding FIOF appeared in the June 26 and July 17 bulletins. At all the Masses of the July 9 and 10 weekend,
Fr. John announced and briefly explained the DCP recommendations.
Please Pray. Please continue praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and for the success of Faith in
Our Future as our preparation for change and its implementation marches forward in our Diocese and in our
Parish.

Parish Day of Prayer
for Vocations
Rosary (in its entirety) at four points during the day, Confessions at scheduled
time.,Evening Prayer, and the blessing and
raising of our new Vatican flag and American flag. The schedule for the day follows.
“In traditionally Christian countries, the
worrying fall in the number of priests, the
rising of their average age and the requirements of the new evangelization are shaping a new situation for the Church….The
Christian community’s prayer has always
reinforced in the people of God a shared
awareness with regard to vocations, a
sense of a ‘spiritual solidarity’. Wherever
an integrated pastoral ministry - with families, young people or in the mission field develops and grows together with a pastoral ministry for vocations, there is a flowering of priestly vocations. The local
Church becomes truly ‘responsible for the
birth and development of priestly vocations.’.....All the members of the Church
are responsible for looking after priestly
vocations. ‘The Second Vatican Council
was quite explicit in this regard: “The duty
of fostering vocations falls on the whole
Christian community, and they should dis-
Thursday, August 4, 2016
As part of our effort to respond to the
"clear and pressing" need for priests and
for vocations to consecrated life, our parish
will be conducting a “Parish Day of Prayer
for Vocations” on Thursday, August 4,
2016 (the Memorial of St. John Vianney,
the patron saint of parish priests). The
“day” will be a day-long, continuous prayer for vocations beginning at 8:00 a.m. and
concluding at 8:00 p.m. All are invited
and urged to attend and to participate for
all or any portion of the day at any time
that is convenient for your schedule.
The day will begin with the parish’s
usual daily Mass at 8:00 a.m. and end with
a special Mass for Vocations at 7:15 p.m.
The 7:15 p.m. Mass will be celebrated by
Fr. Garry Koch, Diocesan Director of Vocations for Monmouth County.
Throughout the day we will have Eucharistic Adoration and also hourly prayers
for vocations at the “top of the hour,” the

charge it principally by living full Christian lives”. Only on the basis of this conviction will pastoral work on behalf of vocations be able to show its truly ecclesial
aspect, develop a harmonious plan of action, and make use of specific agencies and
appropriate instruments of communion and
co-responsibility.’….Prayer initiatives, and
most especially Eucharistic adoration,
which are prepared and conducted in a
meaningful way and with a profound liturgical sense, can highlight the extraordinary importance of the priestly vocation.”

PASTORAL CARE
STEPHEN & PADUAN MINISTRIES
Our Extraordinary Ministers made 11 communion/shut-in
visits and 2 Stephen Ministry visits during this past week.
We pray that we have helped to bring God’s love and
peace to His people in need.
Balance
Our lives are delicately balanced. A small shift in one
area of life can set us off balance. A major change can
send us spinning out of control. Stephen and Paduan Ministers can help when life gets out of balance. They listen
and care, and most importantly, bring the stability of Jesus'
love and grace into people's lives. If your life has shifted
out of balance, consider contacting us. We will try to
help to bring balance back into your life.
Our Extraordinary Ministers are available for our parishioners to visit the sick, the elderly, and to bring Communion. Please contact us if you need us at 732-483-0360 ext.
120.
Volunteers have been hard at
work getting ready for the coffeehouse next Sunday (Aug. 7):
Hangout @ St. Mike’s!
Please come join us for live music, delicious
coffee from BulletProof Coffee, great food,
and a chance to make some new friends! Fr.
Bill Dowd will be joining us as a motivational speaker for the night. We are looking
forward to this evening and hope that you
and your friends will join us!

FEAR: “I say I am stronger than fear.”
- Malala Yousafzal
I fear the news. I fear the loss of humanity. I fear the
lack of kindness to each other. I fear the loss of HOPE.
I fear my children’s future. I fear more the future of my
possible grandchildren. I fear the future, period.
But I have God in my heart and I believe that there is
hope for us all. Life is to be lived. Problems can be
solved. Even when we get in over our heads. Tread
water. Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope.
“This is all you have. This is not a dry run. This is
your life. If you want to fritter it away with your fears,
then you will fritter it away, but you won’t get it back
later.” Laura Schlessinger
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough
trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
“Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we
learned here.” Marrianne Williamson
“Under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in
due time, cast all your anxiety on him because he
cares for you.” Peter 5:6-7
But it can also cause us not to experience life possibilities, life’s new joys.
A group like no other!
