Impacting our Area, our State,
our Country, and our World
The Central Community College Foundation was established in 1989
as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Last year the Foundation
celebrated our 25th anniversary. In 2016, Central Community College
will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The Foundation continues to
grow with assets now exceeding $30 million dollars, and deferred
and /or expected gift exceeding $1.5 million, with scholarships awarded
now exceeding the $2 million dollar mark. The benefit to traditional
and non-traditional students is apparent throughout the world.
Fiscal 2015 was another strong year for the Foundation, based
on donor support with respect to our successful campaigns, events,
Dean Moors
planned giving, and strategic direction. The Foundation added a
new Development Director position to enhance our growth and to continue to increase
scholarship dollars and program support for CCC. In addition, we’ve launched our first
“Major Gifts” campaign to build a new footprint for the Kearney Center. This campaign will
develop new relationships and planned giving opportunities for the future.
The theme “Impacting our Area, our State, our Country, and our World” is evident throughout
this annual report.
You will find several testimonials throughout the pages from thank you notes received from
2015-16 scholarship recipients. The future looks strong for the continued support of CCC
through scholarships and programs for students.

College President’s
Report
At Central Community College, student access and success
are at the core of our mission. We strive to assure that our
students meet their learning objectives and educational goals
in a friendly, supportive environment. CCC attempts to keep
education affordable and within reach of all who desire it. In
this endeavor the CCC Foundation plays a key role within
our community, providing crucial financial support for
students.
Dr. Greg P. Smith
The CCC Foundation’s work advances our common goal of placing students first by
assuring private support for high quality, low cost public education. The men and women
who contribute their time, energy, and expertise to the Foundation’s Board of Directors
deserve our special thanks. This talented board is a unified body whose commitment
benefits those who look to CCC to help fulfill their hopes and dreams. The members of
the board lead by example for others last year with 100% of them personally contributing
funds to the Foundation.
As we strive to keep costs reasonable, the work of the CCC Foundation is increasingly
important. Our dual challenge is to offer programs, facilities, and opportunities that enable
a diverse array of men and women to improve their lives and their communities, while
making those opportunities as affordable as possible.
The 2015-2016 fiscal year will be a busy and eventful year at CCC. In addition to our normal
activities we are in the midst of our Kearney Center Major Gifts Campaign, targeted at
$11.5 million for a new 63,000 square foot facility, scholarships, and a small business
institute. We’re off to a great start. For more information about this campaign, please
contact Dean Moors at [email protected] or 402-460-2153.
We can all be proud that thousands of men and women of all ages, from across our 25-county
area and beyond, turn to CCC each year with high educational expectations. There is an
implicit agreement entered into each time a student enrolls that CCC will provide learning
environments conducive to success and that, in return, the student will invest the energy
and effort necessary to achieve success.
This agreement is possible in large part due to support from individuals, businesses, and
organizations dedicated to improving our overall quality of life through generous
contributions to provide financial aid, programs, and facilities for our deserving students.
I speak for all affiliated with CCC and the communities we serve when I express heartfelt
gratitude to the numerous private donors listed in this report for their past
benevolence. Thanks to you, we look forward to a continued relationship of mutual
support for CCC’s current and future students.
And, 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of CCC. Numerous special events will mark this
milestone. We hope that you will be able to join us in these celebrations!
2
Foundation President’s
Report
Celebrate - now back to work!
Last year marked the 25th year that your Foundation has provided
financial support for our Central Community College (CCC)
students. As we celebrate this milestone, however, we are
keenly aware of the Foundation’s evolving role and the growing
need for this support.
Terry Millard
Our current capital campaign to expand the CCC facilities in Kearney is off to a great
start. Facility needs at all campuses will continue to make this an important role in the
Foundation’s future. However, this does not mean our need to grow scholarship support
has changed. In fact, we will have even a greater need going forward. Our dedicated and
professional staff are well prepared to handle both objectives. Our Vision: “Improving
Quality of Life; Fulfilling One Dream at a Time” drives our daily agenda.
Your support of the CCC Foundation makes a measurable difference to our students,
faculty and staff. Thank you for your contribution to make this past fiscal year a success
and for helping us continue to create a bright future for our students.

Creating a Lasting Tribute
By making a gift in your name or that of a loved one, you can create a lasting tribute that extends your
values and helps shape lives.
What if you could honor a loved one while also improving the lives of others—̶̶and even save on your
taxes? Here are three meaningful ways to make a difference: endowments, memorials, and scholarships.
• Endowments – Gifts that keep on giving. Creating an endowment is a wonderful way to:
o Honor a charitable organization such as Central Community College Foundation
o Provide financial support to worthy projects
o Receive tax benefits
o Continue a project in your name or the name of a loved one long into the future
• Memorial Gifts – Honor someone by supporting a favorite cause:
o Establish an endowment
o Support a scholarship fund
o Support another project of special interest to you or your honoree
• Scholarships – Help students achieve their dreams:
o Enable students to receive a quality education and follow their progress as they learn and
grow
o Make a contribution that gives back to the community and serves as an example for others
o Provide a gift you will remember for the rest of your life—and that will enhance the life
of someone else
There are many ways besides cash to fund your endowment, memorial, or scholarship:
→ Appreciated assets. Using an appreciated asset that you have owned for more than one
year may allow you to eliminate the capital gains tax on the asset’s appreciation
→ Life insurance. Make the Foundation the owner and beneficiary of a policy you no longer
need
→ Retirement plan assets. These heavily taxed assets make an ideal gift to our tax-exempt
organization after your lifetime
→ Gifts that provide income. By establishing a life income gift, such as a charitable remainder
trust, you can receive income for the rest of your life, and the Foundation will receive the
remaining assets after your lifetime
→ Bequests. Remembering us in your will is an easy, flexible way to provide support
There are multiple creative ways you can establish a scholarship, remember a loved one, or create an
endowment. We would be happy to meet with you to explore the options that could be most beneficial to
you. Please contact Dean Moors ([email protected] or 402-460-2153) or Jessica Soucie
([email protected] or 402-460-2165).
NOTE: Please consult with other professionals such as your attorney for legal advice, along with your accountant
and/or financial advisor.

Passion for the CCC Foundation
Some wonder why we have such a passion for the Central
Community College Foundation and the work it does. Right after
high school, I (Jack) went to college only to drop out after two
years. I got frustrated with working all night and going to classes
during the day; basically, I just got lazy.
I went to work for a construction company that went bankrupt.
This left me without a job or any clear direction for my life. By
this time I was married with a small child, so I went to file for
unemployment. The old fellow at the unemployment office
essentially told me to get off my butt and get back to school.
Jack and Lisa Schreiner
Someone had told me about a two-year Manufacturing Engineering program that was offered at a
community college that I thought sounded interesting. The only problem was that I had no money.
At that time there were no foundations to help. There was a program that gave me some assistance
and a local group of farmers were kind enough to keep me in part-time work while I attended
classes.
It was quite difficult, but I got my Associates degree and took a job here in Hastings with
Bruckman Rubber Co. Needless to say, it was the best (economical) investment of my life. I later
finished my Bachelor’s degree. I know that my life and that of my family would have turned out
not nearly so well if I had not been able to get that two-year degree.
We could easily have ended up as another casualty that would have been a lifelong burden on
taxpayers. Instead, I am able to complain about the amount of taxes we pay. It is a much better
problem to have. Lisa also attended a community college and three of our four children graduated
from Central Community College and have done very well.
There are a lot of people out there wearing the same shoes I wore in the 70’s with few affordable
options. Some of them will find their way, but a great many of them will not. They will struggle at
the bottom of the food chain and consume our taxes.
Central Community College Foundation does not provide a perpetual sustenance; it helps make
it possible for the children and struggling adults of our community to provide for themselves.
Understanding this fact makes it pretty easy for us to stay passionate.
The CCC organization gets it; they see the need and the value every day. That is why you see
so many of the employees donate to the Foundation. Many others get it also. That is why it is
important you donate your time and hard-earned dollars. Most understand that you won’t be taking
your assets with you. They are making provisions with estate planning to be able to continue to
make a difference in lives of students at CCC.
When our young daughter passed away, my wife suggested that we start a memorial scholarship
in her name. What a great feeling this has been. (Note: Jack & Lisa established an endowed
scholarship called the Amanda K. Schreiner Memorial Scholarship.)
The Foundation will never be in a position to help all of those who need it, but together we can
change several lives and build a competent workforce for our community businesses.
Jack and Lisa Schreiner
“I would like to thank the Amanda Schreiner Memorial Scholarship for the $500 award.
I will use this towards my Nursing Degree and books. I truly appreciate being selected
to receive this scholarship that will help me get one step closer to my educational goals.
Thank you again.”

Support–Endowed
A number of permanently endowed funds have been established for student and college support over the years.
Monies in these endowed funds are invested with scholarships and support awarded from investment earnings
only. The principal of the endowed funds remains intact to continue providing scholarships and support for
future students and the programs at Central Community College.
The Foundation also coordinates a number of other scholarships that have not been permanently endowed.
They are too numerous to list in the annual report. If you or someone you know would like to set up or receive
information about either an endowed scholarship or another type of scholarship, please contact Dean Moors,
Executive Director of the Central Community College Foundation ([email protected] or 402-460-2153).

Donor Honor Roll
Over the past 26 years, thousands of individuals and organizations have designated Central Community College
Foundation and the College as recipients of their contributions. These contributions have come in a variety of ways—
through capital campaigns, memorials, scholarships, grants, employee appeals, and other fund raising activities. Our
Donor Honor Roll reflects gifts from patrons to the CCC Foundation.
The Foundation’s Donor Honor Roll includes the following categories:
• Board of Governor’s Club—Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze; President’s Society, and Foundation Builder’s Club
include lifetime contributions within the designated monetary values. The most recent contribution must have been
between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2015.
• Dean’s Club, Faculty Club, Century Club, and Campus Club include lifetime contributions within the designated
monetary values. The most recent contribution must have been between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015.
*Legacy Donors are listed separately in the annual report.
**NOTE: Every effort is made to place each donor in the proper giving category. However, with a multitude of donor accounts,
errors sometimes occur. If you feel your account is listed incorrectly, please contact the Foundation.

Two New Endowed Scholarships
This past fiscal year several families and individuals set up endowed funds at the Foundation. An
endowed scholarship is a scholarship that has been permanently endowed at $10,000 or greater.
The corpus is never touched, but scholarships are awarded and/or college support is given
from earnings these funds accumulate through the Foundation’s investments. At this time, the
Foundation has 77 Endowed Scholarship Funds. You can see a listing of these on page 11.
Two endowed scholarships established during this past fiscal year are the Essex Family
Scholarship and the Homer & Margaret Pierce Scholarship.
The Essex Family Scholarship was established after the death of Chip Essex,
former Planned Gift Coordinator at the CCC Foundation. Memorials and
donations by the family will provide a college-wide scholarship fund in
perpetuity. Criteria established by the family include a student being a fulltime or part-time single mother, traditional (high school graduate) or
nontraditional, and first or second year in her schooling. The scholarship can
be used for tuition, books, or other educational supplies.
Chip Essex
The Homer & Margaret Pierce Scholarship was established for a Hastings
Campus nontraditional student who has successfully completed a minimum
of 12 hours the previous semester. The scholarships will be used for tuition
and fees and any excess can be used for books. As with all endowed
scholarships, this scholarship will benefit CCC students indefinitely.
Endowed or Restricted scholarships can be set up to address almost
any circumstances that the donor wishes. If you would like to discuss
or establish a scholarship, please contact Dean Moors (402-460-2153 or
[email protected]) or Jessica Soucie (402-460-2165 or [email protected]).
Margaret & Homer
Pierce
“Dear Homer & Margaret Pierce, I am the recipient of your scholarship. I would like to express my
profound gratitude for this award. At my age I can truly appreciate the gifts that are given to me. I
would like to say that I am honored to be chosen for this award. I can tell you that it will go to good
use, being 47 years old, and in college, there’s no turning back now. Through my life’s experiences
I am positive that becoming a teacher is the correct choice for me, and thank you to you both, this
makes my goal more attainable. Again, thank you so much for this honor.”

Employee Donors
Support from employees of Central Community College is instrumental in the success of the CCC
Foundation. While the dollars contributed by the employees are important, even more significant is the
loyalty, commitment, and dedication these donors represent.
The following list represents 367 part-time, full-time, and community education employees who have
contributed to the CCC Foundation 2014 Employee Appeal, paid to participate in the 2014 Pro-Am
Golf Tournament, paid to attend the 2014 Appreciation Luncheon, donated their service awards, and/or
participated in other fundraising opportunities sponsored by the Foundation.

CCC Retirees
Past employees often mention that they miss being a part of the Central Community College
“Family” upon their retirement. This is one reason the Foundation chose to establish an event
where each Campuses’ and Centers’ retirees can come together
occasionally after they leave the college. The type and number of
events vary among the Campuses and Centers, but you can be sure,
each one includes laughs and plenty of stories. There is no charge
to attend these events. Dr. Smith, Dean Moors, and the respective
campus president are usually present updates on the College and
Campus/Center progress. We welcome all retirees, their significant
others, and any surviving spouse to attend, reconnect, and enjoy
Pat Stange & Dean Moors along
some camaraderie with other CCC retirees.
with 2015 retiree, Sandy Burris
This past fiscal year 21 employees retired. They are Coleen Murray, Robert Becker, Jeff Curry,
Harold Hamel, Vicki Papineau, Roger DeVries, Colleen Quadhamer, Janet Sorahan, Sharon Maul,
Daniel Rumsey, John Anderson, Dana Wert, Ronny Meyer, Sandy Burris, Jim Krebsbach, Mike
Cox, Patrick Cecil, Debbra Troudt, Charlie Sanders, Ron Schuller, and Gregg Smith. We welcome
the new CCC Retirees!
If you are interested in attending an event and you haven’t received an invitation, please contact
Pat Stange, [email protected] or 402-460-2152
“I am writing to thank you for the $250 Employee Donations Scholarship. I was very happy
and appreciative to learn that I was selected to receive this. I am an Art major with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Photography. I plan to pursue a career in graphic design upon
graduating from CCC. I am currently a sophomore and plan to graduate in May 2016. Thanks
to you I’m one step closer to that goal. By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened
my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the important aspect of school, which
is learning. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community.”
Paying it Foward
“My wife, Kittie and I have a firm belief in education. We both have our
graduate degrees and have seen the success behind obtaining our postsecondary educations. We both have a firm belief in donating to causes
where local work occurs and is seen through our communities. The
success of our community’s present and future depends on a skilled
work force. Education is the cornerstone to that force. With many
Nebraska K-12 schools being Title 1 schools, the success of our education depends on the financial support of Central Community College
Foundation. The CCC Foundation has also helped me personally
Brian Hoffman
with Professional Development Grants for my bachelors and masters
degrees. These employee Professional Development Grants have aided me with tuition, travel,
and books. Today, I see how my donation and scholarships have come full-circle and I believe
in the college’s direction: paying it forward for a better educated community.”

Appreciation Lunch
Grand Island Campus and the Administration offices hosted the second of three Appreciation
Luncheons with the theme, “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” on October 28, 2014.
The purpose of the luncheons continues the opportunity to thank donors, provide opportunities for
others to learn more about the Campus and the College, provide updates on campus changes and
successes, listen to scholarship and employee testimonials, and provide tours for those in
attendance. This past luncheon was attended by people associated with several local businesses and
organizations, individuals, as well as several CCC employees.
Homer Pierce, former College Board of Governor and Foundation Board of Director, along with
his wife Margaret were announced as the 2014 inductee into the Central Community College
Foundation Hall of Fame. The unveiling of the Hall of Fame plaque honoring the Pierces was held
in November at the Administration Offices in Grand Island.
The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Army Veteran and second year student Ryan
Kaufman. This was followed with the invocation by Jesse Hake, a first year student and member of
the Campus Crusade for Christ organization on the Grand Island Campus. Dr. Greg P. Smith,
College President, and Dr. Thomas Walker, President of the Grand Island Campus, provided the
update on the College and Grand Island Campus, respectively. Sherah Dickinson, a second year
Academic Transfer student and scholarship recipient, provided a wonderful testimonial of
how receiving a scholarship had changed not only her life but the lives of her children. Math
Instructor, Kathy Woitaszewski, shared why she donates to the Foundation, and how she has seen the
difference in lives of students receiving those scholarships, her own children included. Tours were
available for those wishing to see more of the opportunities provided on the Grand Island Campus.

Outstanding Alumni
Each year Central Community College campuses nominate and award the Outstanding Alumni honor to a
deserving graduate from each of their respective campuses. Over the years, 83 graduates have received the
honor. In 2014, Central Community College hired a full-time Alumni Director, Cheri Beda. She is located in
the CCC Administration Offices located on the west end of the Grand Island Campus. Central Community
College Foundation still is the conduit through which the College presents this award to deserving alumni.
Below are the recipients who were bestowed the honor at the commencement ceremonies in May 2015.
Alan Hartley of Doniphan. Alan is a graduate of Greeley High School who received his Associate of
Applied Science Degree in Electronics from the Hastings Campus in 1968. He
then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Education from Kearney State
College and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from the University of
Nebraska-Kearney. Alan was an assistant Electronics Instructor in the late 1960’s
and early 1970’s on the Hastings Campus. He left CCC briefly to open his own
retail business with Radio Shack. Alan returned to CCC in 1977 as an Electronic
Communications Instructor, and in 1996 he was promoted to Associate Dean of
Instruction, and in 1999 to Dean of Educational Services, all on the Hastings
Campus. Alan’s plan was to retire in 2013, but he delayed that plan and agreed to
serve as interim President of the Grand Island Campus for one year. He fulfilled
his dream of retirement in 2014. He and his wife, Dorothy, have three sons and seven grandchildren.
Stephanie Sydow of Kearney. Stephanie is a graduate of Kenesaw Public Schools who received her nursing
degree in 2008 through the Kearney Center and Grand Island Campus. She is currently working on her
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix,
Arizona and is scheduled to complete in April 2016. She started her nursing
career in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) where she worked for two years at
Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She then took a position in the Cardiac Cath
Lab and later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) department to train in
all aspects of critical care to better prepare herself to become a flight nurse
for AirCare, her childhood dream job. Stephanie’s husband John and his four
children, plus one little miracle scheduled to be born November 2015, complete
her family.
Richard “Dick” Averett Family of Columbus. For the first time in the history of Central Community
College, the honor of outstanding alumni has been awarded to a group
rather than to an individual. Richard Averett, the founding Speech
and Theater Instructor at Platte College (Columbus Campus), passed
away in September 2014. He, his wife, Barbara, and their entire
family have been instrumental in the passion for theater through
the College and the Columbus community. Of the 28 individuals in
the Averett Family, 18 attended CCC and seven graduated. After four
decades, several family members still reside in Columbus and other
areas in Nebraska, and have served the city of Columbus, the state
of Nebraska, and our nation. Matriarch of the family, Barb Averett,
accepted the award on behalf of the family.
“Impacting our Area, our State, our Country, and our World” facts:
• International students from 19 countries
• Dental Hygiene and Nursing Programs hosted exchange groups from South Korea in 2014

Why I Give to the Foundation
I grew up in a household where education was highly valued. My mother was a
teacher for over 30 years. My father wanted to be a lawyer, but the money he had
saved for college vanished when the banks went broke during the Depression so
he was never able to attend college. He kept telling me “An education is something
that can never, ever be taken away from you.” He made sure his two daughters
graduated from college.
When I came to CCC I saw how so many of our students struggle to get an education, some working full time as single parents. I had students in classes that slept
Vicki Harvey
on the floor because they couldn’t afford a bed, and students that needed glasses
so badly yet they couldn’t afford them. I knew that scholarship money was the only thing keeping
many of them in school. I thought about my Dad. What if someone would have given him a scholarship? Could he have had the career he dreamed of rather than doing the back breaking work he did?
I thought about what I could do to help our CCC students and I started giving some each year to the
scholarship funds. Then when my mother died, I inherited a share of her farm. When it sold I was
able to donate enough to create an ongoing scholarship. Education is part of my roots and heritage. I
wanted to be able to pass that on to the next generation of CCC students.

“I would like to thank the Scholarship Committee of Central Community College for selecting me
to receive the $1,000 Wendell and Francis Starr Scholarship. This amazing scholarship will help
me reach my educational goals as well as my future career aspirations. I will be furthering my
education at my own expense so every penny counts! I would also like to thank the donor for allowing the scholarship to be available to me. It means so much to have people out there that see
the potential of students and are willing to help them out! This scholarship is a true blessing and I
cannot tell you how much it means to me! Thank you so much!”

New Foundation Employee
Jessica Soucie of Hastings has joined the Central Community College Foundation as its new
Development Director. In her new position, she will work to increase the assets of the Foundation
through annual campaigns, events, and planned giving. She received her Bachelor’s degree from
Hastings College and a Master’s degree from Doane College. She has been active in a variety of
community activities, including graduating from Leadership Hastings, and she now serves on their
Board of Directors, and she is an Ambassador for Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce. She and
her husband, Nick, have two young children.
Soucie says, “When I joined the Foundation in March, my number one goal was to continue to help
the Foundation grow at the rate it has been in the past. I am working to increase scholarship dollars
by yearly appeals, endowments, and planned gifts, which will provide longterm assistance to students throughout our 25-county area.” She continues, “Prior
to coming to CCC Foundation, I was the Director for TeamMates Mentoring
Program in Hastings. My love for fundraising started early into that career and
it has grown stronger each year. Having the opportunity to do it full time and at
a higher level is exciting, and I am thrilled to be a part of this team.”
If you, your family and/or business are interested in a named scholarship
opportunity or planned gift, please contact Jessica at 402-460-2165 or

“Thank you. I, Nancy, want to thank
you for granting me the Rhonda &
Renee Pauley Scholarship for my
2015-16 academic year. Many things
have arisen for me this semester making it
highly difficult for me to stay motivated
and active and keep pushing myself to
succeed. But receiving this scholarship
has shown me that no matter how much
I doubt myself, no matter how much I
struggle, people do still believe in me.
Thank you again for the scholarship. It
is a push to remind myself that I can do
this as a teen mother with low income
and I do have the potential to succeed.
All I need is to believe and persevere.
Thank you again!”
“I am so grateful to receive the Fine Arts
Scholarship this year. Thank you for your generous support! Growing up in a less privileged
community has made me realize how important
higher education is. This scholarship means so
much to me and will greatly benefit me in my career
path. I am especially honored because this will
make funding college so much easier on myself
and my family.
“Thank you so much for the KaufmannCummings scholarship. The $1,000 has
helped immensely in opening the door of
opportunity for me. It means more than
you can ever imagine.”
Your scholarship has been an answer to our
prayers as we have had financial burdens
growing up. This will lift part of that burden
and allow me to pursue my dream of a college
education. I plan to attend CCC for two years and
then transfer to a four year college to receive my
bachelor’s degree in Human Services. Thank you
again for your support.”
I plan to complete my generals at Central
Community College and move on to complete
my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. I hope
to someday see myself in a career in animation
and character design. Thank you again for your
support and generosity.”
“I am honored to be one of the students awarded
with the Chartwells Scholarship this year.
Thanks to your generous support, I am a proud
future freshman at Central Community College.
