Dr. Paul LaVergne believes in integrating
a variety of disciplines and interests into
the Vaughn learning experience
Vaughn College is committed to providing you with a distinctive—and fulfilling—academic
experience. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new and better ways to enhance your
learning—initiatives aimed at promoting your success in the classroom and in the world—such as:
Collaborative Spirit
Collaboration happens naturally at Vaughn College—between students, between students
and faculty, and between faculty. That collaborative spirit is especially evident in our Learning
Communities. We’ve linked courses—mathematics and engineering, physics and history, and
math and English—which are then team taught by our faculty, exposing you to more viewpoints,
increasing your critical thinking skills and helping you to view principles in more connected and
engaging ways.
Supportive Environment
8
Let’s face it—subjects like math and science can be particularly challenging. At Vaughn, you will
have the support you need to be successful. In fact, the person sitting next to you in class might
very well be a student who’s already passed that class with flying colors—and is there to help
you succeed by reviewing materials outside of class and helping you work on problems. This
approach has been shown to help strengthen your understanding of course materials, develop
effective study skills and improve your preparation for exams.
Creative Connections
Sometimes it can be difficult to see how your learning
experiences relate. How does this course connect with

Academic Experience
this community service activity and this internship to
bring you what you ultimately want: a successful future?
That’s why we’ve launched electronic portfolios, known as
“e-portfolios.” They’re a fun, dynamic way to help you gain
a full picture of your learning experiences at Vaughn—and
to represent your professional self to future employers.
9
Vaughn College not only has the people and programs in place to help you succeed, we’re
also committed to upgrading our equipment, facilities and services. Recent enhancements to
improve your academic experience include:
Simulating Success
We’re especially excited about our new flight simulator lab, which houses two new Redbird flight
simulators, a new Frasca 241 and a new CRJ–200 to complement our existing Frasca 142. Our
simulators give you the opportunity to truly experience life in the cockpit.
Cruising to New Heights
Dynamic Facilities
Our new Teaching and Learning Center is a bright and welcoming area, designed to give you
easy access to tutoring, if needed, and room to do small group work with your professors. You
can also take advantage of our new writing center and language lab. On the horizon: a new
library and student center/cafeteria.
Innovative Technology
10
Every computer you touch at Vaughn has been replaced and we’ve increased the bandwidth
so that you can connect either in the lab, classroom or wirelessly to the resources you need
to explore any subject. Our state-of-the-art mechatronic engineering laboratory provides
practice-oriented training devices, manufactured in Germany by Lucas-Nulle, which feature
instrumentation and automatic control technology.

Air Traffic—Collegiate Training Initiative
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has chosen Vaughn College as one of only 31 institutions in
the United States to participate in the Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI), the rigorous
education required for the next generation of air traffic controllers. AT-CTI candidates must have a
college degree and pass both AT-CTI and FAA screening tests. In this demanding and rewarding career,
you track flights, make quick decisions and stay on schedule. At least 12,500 controllers will be needed
by 2014 at airports across the country—and Vaughn College graduates will be among the best.
