Broadway in the Park 2015
A Message from Paul Garman
Executive Director / Producer
Welcome to our 17th annual Broadway in the Park! This incredible fundraiser
would not happen every year without the dedication of over 150 volunteers
who give of their time and talent to create a successful event. We especially
want to thank Event Co-chairs, Marnos Lelesi and Lisa Cochrane and the
wonderful Broadway in the Park Committee, as well as our outstanding
volunteers listed later in the program. We also want to acknowledge our
table sponsors and underwriters, whose contributions lay the foundation on
which to build a successful event.
A special thank you to the members of Musical Theatre West Footlighters
for hosting the VIP Party and the Musical Theatre West Guild who work
the event, as well as the members of the Musical Theatre West Board of
Directors and Board of Trustees who help obtain and underwrite the live
and silent auction items. And we certainly couldn’t raise the money we do
without our “Fabulous Four” organizing the silent auction. Heartfelt thanks
to Kathy Biggs, Susan Nathon, Jayni Rhoads and Debbie Whitaker.
Also a special thank you goes to the wonderful MTW staff and technical
crew whose expertise help produce this evening. A huge thanks to all of
tonight’s performers, Cindy and Tam of Striking Elegance and Jim Choura,
Dan D’sa and Devin Wright of Grand Food & Beverage, who each year so
generously help underwrite Broadway in the Park, allowing us to raise more
money for our Education and Outreach Programs.
Most of all, we want to express our deep appreciation to each of you for
attending tonight’s event. We hope you enjoy the evening and look forward
to seeing you next year!

Thank you!!
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Since 1991, MTW’s Education and Outreach Program
has held special weekday performances to introduce
children to live musical theatre. We are pleased to
say that to date over 165,000 kids have attended these
performances.
Over the last six years
MTW has also gone into
the schools with speciallywritten assemblies that
demonstrate both the educational and entertainment
value of musical theatre.
With the current cuts in arts education in the schools,
these experiences may be their only exposure to live
musical theatre, as well as their only field trip during
the year. Judging by the expressions on their faces and
their interactions with the cast, it’s an experience they
won’t soon forget!
Since the inception of the program 11 years ago, our
Footlighters have awarded over $56,000 in scholarships
to deserving local students. We are particularly honored
that since the inauguration of the NHSMT Awards in
New York City 5 years ago, MTW Scholarship Winners
have won 3 out of the 5 years.
Thanks to your support, MTW has been able to
expand its conservatories and workshops and to
help Wilson High School reinvigorate their drama
program, helping produce their first musical in ten
years. We look forward to continuing these programs
in the coming years.
Your participation in Broadway in the Park helps ensure that Musical Theatre West can
reach the hearts and minds of young children throughout the region with the joy and
magic of live musical theatre. On behalf of all of the students whose lives are enriched
through these programs, we offer our heartfelt thanks for your support.
2015-16
SEASON
Southern California’s Premier Musical Theatre Company
Paul Garman, Executive Director/Producer
SOMETHING’S COMING...SOMETHING GOOD.
MY FAIR LADY • OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 8, 2015
Why can’t the English?...Professor Henry Higgins transforms
Cockney guttersnipe Eliza Doolittle into a proper English lady
in the Lerner and Loewe classic based on Shaw’s Pygmalion.
Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, Get Me To The Church On Time, The Rain In
Spain and more are part of this delectable score from Broadway’s
Golden Age.
WEST SIDE STORY • FEBRUARY 12 - 28, 2016
Tonight, tonight...Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet,
Bernstein, Sondheim and Larents reset the star-crossed lovers
into two feuding gangs in New York City during the 1950s.
America, Something’s Coming, Tonight and Somewhere are
featured in this glorious, romantic and ultimately tragic tale.
SISTER ACT • APRIL 8 - 24, 2016
A woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their
voices as she rediscovers her own. Based on the 1992 film with
original music by TONY and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken
(Newsies, Beauty and the Beast), this uplifting musical was
nominated for 5 TONY Awards including Best Musical. Filled with
powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving
story that will leave audiences breathless.
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS • JULY 8 - 24, 2016
The con is on! From the composer/lyricist of The Full Monty comes
this hilarious, and often risqué musical based on the Steve Martin
and Michael Caine film. Two con artists working on the French
Riviera decide that the first to swindle “America’s Soap Queen”
out of $50,000 can stay in town and the loser has to beat feet.
