Edward V. McGinniss D.V.M (Dr. Ed).
is a 1984 graduate of the University of Illinois
College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his
Bachelors degree prior to that from the
University Of Illinois College Of Agriculture.
He started the Animal Hospital of Lake Villa in
1993 and continues to serve the pets in the lakes
region. Dr. Ed shares his home with 2 Australian
Shepherds, Finlea and Reyna. Reyna and Finlea
come to work every day and many times will
greet you at the front desk.
Pain Management
Your pet’s comfort and well-being are very
important to us. We provide a variety of pain
control options tailored to your pet’s needs. We
utilize various medication including antiinflammatorys and narcotics to keep your pet
comfortable.
Diagnostic Testing
We are proud of our commitment in high quality
care and have developed a diagnostic department
that includes radiography, electrocardiography
(ECG) blood pressure monitoring and tonometry.
Our complete in-house laboratory is capable of
many tests including blood counts and chemistries,
and microscopic evaluations. These services are
complemented by additional outside laboratories
and telemedicine consultations with specialists
nationwide.

Wellness
Keeping your pets healthy is important to us, and
regular wellness examinations are the foundation to
helping them live longer, healthier, happier lives.
Wellness care covers far more than vaccinations; it also
includes preventative care such as heartworm and
intestinal parasite testing. Nose to tail exams and
comprehensive evaluations of overall health.
Dentistry
Periodontal disease is the most common ailment found
in dogs and cats over four years old. It can lead to pain
and tooth loss, and the resulting bacteria can spread
throughout the body and damage the heart, lungs kidney
and liver. Our dental services include teeth cleaning
and polishing , tooth extractions and oral surgery.
Professional Associations
Dr. McGinniss is a member of The American
Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), The
Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association
(ISVMA), The Chicago Veterinary Medical
Association (CVMA), The American Animal
Hospital Association (AAHA), and The Lake
County Veterinary Society. Dr. McGinniss has
served on the executive board of the CVMA and
is a past President. Dr. Ed has also served on the
board of the ISVMA and is president of the
Lake County Veterinary Society.
Surgery
We perform many surgical procedures at our hospital,
including routine spay and neuters, and soft tissue
surgeries. Our surgical suite includes heated water
blankets, advanced anesthetic monitors that measure
heart and respiratory rates, oxygen levels, body
temperatures and heart rhythm. Patients recover under
the constant supervision of our experienced staff.
Ear disease
Our Video Otiscope enables up to diagnose,
treat and better manage many different types
of ear disease.
Regular Staff Training – In order to
keep all team members aware of the rapid
advances in the veterinary medicine our
caregivers have regular staff training.
Payment and Fees – We make every effort to
ensure that all fees are fair and reasonable; you
are encouraged to discuss charges before services
are rendered. We accept cash, debit cards,
Amex, M/C, VISA, Discover, and Care Credit.
It is the policy of this hospital that payment for
professional services be made at the time they
are performed.
Estimates – We are happy to provide you with a
written estimate of any service to be performed.
Please realize that it is sometimes difficult
to anticipate an individual pet’s treatment
needs. If the actual costs are greater than the
estimate, we will notify you for authorization.
