Bulletin BPI 01-21 Subject: Disc brake squeal after brake reline. Vehicles Involved: All vehicles equipped with locating or indexing nibs on the inboard pad. Repair Procedure: Incorrect installation of the inboard pad could cause brake squeal. It is necessary to index the nibs or protrusions on the backside of the inboard pad to the caliper piston when replacing brakes. Misalignment of the inboard pad is not always obvious. It may be necessary to remove the caliper assembly to check the relationship of the inboard pad to the caliper piston. The pad friction surface must completely contact the rotor. Misalignment of the protrusions inhibit pad surface to rotor contact, resulting in excessive heat and noise.
