What is TE and FE?
TE (Tracking Error) sh ow s h ow w ell th e d riv e f ollow s th e p red ef ined
track on th e d isc. F E (F ocu s Error) sh ow s h ow w ell th e d riv e is able to
f ocu s th e laser on th e d isc. Wh en laser beam
cannot f ocu s h oriz ontally
and v ertically , TE and F E w ill occu r and can be record ed . Th at m eans,
low er and sm ooth er TE and F E error lev el ind icates laser beam
can
f ocu s m ore p recisely on d isc tracks.
I m p o r tanc e o f TE and FE

A good q u ality d isc w ill h av e clear track so a d riv e can w rite d ata on
it m ore easily . A nd a correctly f ocu sed laser w ill m ake a correctly
d ef ined p it. Th eref ore, low TE/ F E error lev el can m ax im iz e th e
w riting strategy p erf orm ance of th e d riv e.

Wh en bu rning at low sp eed , d riv e serv o u su ally h as th e ability to
com p ensate sm all TE/ F E v ariance of th e d isc. Bu t w h en bu rning
sp eed increases, TE/ F E p lay s im p ortant role to h elp u s id entif y if th e
d isc can su ccessf u lly bu rn u nd er d esired sp eed . I m agine w h en y ou
d riv e at h igh sp eed , th e sm ooth lev el of th e road w ill d ecid e if th is is
going to be a bu m p y rid e.
