Holy GHoST CATHolIC CHURCH
Holy GHOST
CATHOLIC CHURCH
Knoxville, Tennessee
home
where we worship, teach & serve
A Campaign for the
Catholic Church in East Tennessee
W
e members of Holy Ghost Parish have the great
privilege of attending Mass in one of the most
beautiful churches in
the United States. We also have
the responsibility of maintaining
that beauty and seeing to it that
our church remains, as our first
pastor, Father James Lorigan, put
it, "a beautiful and substantial
edifice erected to the glory of God
and the winning of souls." The
Home Campaign represents an
opportunity for us to do many of
the things we've dreamed of as our parish moves forward
and grows into its second century.
Our “new” church, dedicated in 1926, is a beautiful and
timeless building that we must continue to care for. We
are also continually challenged by a lack of space for
our growing parish ministries and religious education
programs. The space in our “old” church, largely unused
by our parish, can be converted to a new Parish Life Center,
which will create much needed classroom, meeting, and
social space. Finally, we must look to significantly reduce
our parish debt. We believe that addressing these priorities
through the Home Campaign will enable us to preserve our
beautiful worship space while better serving the needs of
our faith community. Please see the back of this page for
more detail about our plans.

Level 2 Goal: $1,108,137
Holy Ghost will receive $646,413 for
our needs and $461,724 will go toward

challenge Goal: $2,100,000
Holy Ghost will receive $1,638,726 for our
needs and $461,724 will go toward diocesan
initiatives. Reaching this goal will allow us to
complete all capital projects and pay off a
significant portion of our parish debt.
Capital Projects | $650,000
Care for our Beautiful Church - $150,000
Projects such as tuck pointing and interior painting of our church are already
underway. Our beautiful oak doors have had nothing major done to them
since they were first hung in 1926, and are in need of substantial repairs.
Additional projects include maintenance/repairs for
our wonderful pipe organ and replacement of the
floors in Henkel Hall.
Renovate Old Holy Ghost Church
into a Parish Life Center - $500,000
Old Holy Ghost Church needs a lot of work, but
willing hands, open hearts and your contributions
will make this happen. The renovation will include a
large gathering area and 6 classrooms to address our
need of space for large parish functions, religious
education programs, growing parish ministries,
parish retreats and weddings.
We have selected a professional architect to work with our parish leadership in
developing a master plan that incorporates these improvements into an overall
vision of how to best use our parish’s land and buildings.
Debt Reduction | All Remaining Parish Share Funds
There is a good reason our parish has debt – Monsignor Mankel did a vast amount of excellent work on our
church for which we had to borrow money to complete. Eliminating our debt would free up over $13,000 every
month that could be used to further our parish’s mission and establish a positive financial situation for future
generations of Holy Ghost parishioners.
"So," you ask, "what can I do?"
It's simple. Read the included letter from Father Dowling. Prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift to this
campaign. Reflect on the spirit of previous generations of Holy Ghost parishioners who selflessly gave so that
future generations of Catholics could benefit.
