Thankfully, everyone is okay
after a very scary morning.
In addition, a huge thank you
to our PSD Transportation Department for their quick work
and communication with all.

Tdap Vaccine Requirement
HOLD FOR AD
2014-2015
All 6th through 12th graders are required
to have had a Tdap booster!
• Most secondary students have had this booster,
and it is recorded on their school record. Make
sure this is true for your student as soon as possible!
• Students entering 6th-12th grade may still need the vaccine.
• The “p” (pertussis) has been added to the standard Td booster in order to
protect teens against whooping cough.
Prior to the first day of school, a copy of the immunization record from
the doctor’s office must be provided to the school.
• If they have already received the booster, you may give this record to
their current school before school is out in May, 2014.
• State law in Colorado does allow parents to sign the back of an immunization card if they choose to take a personal or religious exemption for not
receiving the booster. This must be on file at the school.

Medical Exemptions must have a physician signature on the back of the
immunization record and be on file at the school as well.

Let’s talk about how we finish the year…
At Wellington Middle School, we keep an academic focus for the entire year. Please continue to check what your student is wearing to
school and make sure that it is appropriate: watch for tank tops
(not allowed), shorts that are too short (should reach the tip of the
index finger when standing and hands
are at the sides-no hunched shoulders),
no silly string, toys, squirt guns, etc.
and there are no sanctioned “ditch
days” ever at our school. Our time
with students is short and we need to
make the most of it! Questions: Please
contact the school office at 488-6600.

8th Grade Visit to Poudre High School
In preparation for the 8th grade to transition to high school next year, all 8th grade students
have been invited to visit PHS next Monday, April 28th from 8-11:55am. This visit is designed to give them exposure to PHS and will include an introduction assembly with presentations from former Wellington students, a tour of the building and a sneak peek into the classroom setting during a regularly scheduled class. Our students always enjoy this trip and it is
a great way to help them stay focused on this very important upcoming transition. NOTE: if
you student is not attending PHS next year, this field trip is important as it will give him/her
a look at a Fort Collins comprehensive high school and our high schools are similar and this
time is well spend.
WMS 8th Grade Transition Workshop: Awesome!
As the end of the school year is fast approaching, we are starting to think more about the upcoming summer and of course, next school year! For those students who will be leaving WMS
and moving on to high school, this transition marks a very important time in their lives; a
time that will present celebrations, excitement and challenges.
WMS teachers, counselors and administrators recognize that this transition period as crucial
to the students’ academic and social development and success. In collaboration with the staff
at Poudre High School, we have developed a comprehensive transition program that is designed to help students understand the expectations they will face as high school freshmen.
The program was designed to provide useful skills and strategies, as well as experiences,
which will help prepare them for the next step in their educational journey. The program
touches on areas including academics, social and self-management skills and aims to achieve
the following goals:
-Empower students to become effective communicators and self-advocate for their needs
-Provide students with skills necessary to navigate high school and achieve success
-Instill a sense of social responsibility and pride in our students
