Use 100% organic
composting accelerator,
which you can buy in
our Shop.
Cut the use of chemicals
in your garden by installing
a water feature to attract
frogs, toads and birds
which all devour pests.
Perfect Compost mix
… all of the food in
our Restaurant is
seasonal and homecooked, and much
is locally sourced
1. Use old tea bags as
‘seed starters’:

Tea bag tips
Green gardening tips
… any food waste
is turned into rich
compost for the
garden in just
4 weeks by our
super Swedish
compost machine
Nymans is one of the greenest
places in the National Trust…
… our large shop
stocks many
products making
‘green living’ easier
for you, such as
‘ecoballs’ for your
washing machine
and an ‘ecostapler’
to use in the office
… our volunteers used timber from
our woodland to build the bamboo
jungle boardwalk and make
charcoal for sale in the shop

At Nymans we care for
our roses using this
seasonal recipe. You can
get all the ingredients
from a garden centre, so
why not try it at home?
Save water by adding a
5–10cm layer of mulch to
beds and container.
Cuts down evaporation so
you need to water less.
And it also reduces the
weeding you’ll need to do!
4. Use a cool cup of tea
instead of water now
and again to ‘water’
your house plants –
watch them grow and
flourish.
2. Roses love the
tannic acid in tea.
Simply sprinkle
used tea leaves
underneath the
bushes to give a
much needed
boost during
summer.

of water with 100 ml

milk and spray it on
the roses

Apply garlic and
seaweed liquid all
year
Reduce waste by
making your own
compost rather than
buying it. Use:
䡵 kitchen fruit and
vegetable waste
䡵 shredded cardboard
such as egg cartons
䡵 used tea bags and
crushed egg shells
䡵 grass cuttings
䡵 most weeds and
spent plants
(avoid perennial
weeds with deep
tap roots)
