MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS
Meeting over in the church house every Sunday morning are a group of
enthusiastic kids – ready for their scripture lesson, worship time and
craft. The time flies by and often we have more material ready than
time! We have enjoyed bringing the bible lessons alive, listening to
their laughter and watching the kids engage and grow in their
knowledge of the scriptures. Even more enjoyable are the times we
get to listen to their hearts – what they are afraid of, struggling with,
happy about or what they want prayer for. We take time at the end of
the morning to pray for each other and the upcoming week. We have
come to love each one of them and will be sorry to see five of our 12
yr. old girls move on to the youth group as they also move into grade
seven. We are planning a Pizza Picnic & Party in the Park Sunday
August 30th to celebrate this past year and kickoff to the year ahead.
Please continue to pray for these children who are so precious in the
Lord’s sight, that the seeds sown and germinated in their hearts will
not only remain, but blossom and grow into what the Lord would have
them to be. Continue to pray for the ministry, that the workers as well
as the work increase, all for the glory of God!

Getting to Know:
John Heo
Each of you should give what you have
decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly
or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver
2 Corinthians 9:7
John has been a part of the Wiseman family
for 24 years now. They all feel God has
brought him into their lives, and the
Wiseman family is so thankful for a church
that loves and supports John, and
themselves. If you have had the opportunity
to attend a talent show here at Evangel, you
have had the pleasure of hearing John sing
hymns, which he truly loves to do! Another
thing that John really enjoys, is playing ping
pong. If anyone is up to playing ping pong
with John, his table is located downstairs at
the Evangel Church House, and he would
love to play a game or two against you!
Along with ping pong, John really loves
Chinese food as well!

Ready for the incredible privilege and
adventure of reading the Bible through cover
to cover? We hope so! It takes only about
fifteen minutes a day. Enjoy! As you read, ask
the Lord to help you see the redemptive story
of the Bible. It's the heartbeat of every book
from Genesis to Revelation.
Without You We Are Nothing
Brendan DePhillippeaux
I’m something of a perfectionist. It’s a quality that’s
helped me in my schooling, but it’s also been less than
constructive at the same time. For instance, I recently got a
good grade on a paper that I’d worked pretty hard on. Amidst
several positive comments, my prof also mentioned that I’d
forgotten to include words in several places throughout the
paper, which made for some pretty fractured sentences.
When I read this, pretty quickly I forgot about the positive
marks and good grades, and wondered how I could have
missed something as obvious as that. It makes me wonder
why exactly we as Christians struggle so hard with making
mistakes, sometimes to the point where we refuse to take a
leap of faith because of fear. I suppose for me, it comes down
to a problem with my beliefs. When I hold back from serving
God because of fear, I often find that it’s not really the mistake
I’m afraid of, but God himself. If I am afraid of making mistakes,
it’s usually because I fear that I’ll somehow be punished for
them, which shows that I’m not really comprehending the
gravity of what Jesus has done for me, and the freedom that
comes along with it. I recently read an excellent biography on
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, which at one point described his attitude
towards taking risks for God. He believed that a part of
Christian freedom is the ability to act upon one’s
convictions without irrational fear of consequences. Obviously
it doesn’t mean that we can get away with anything if we slap
Jesus’ name on the front of it, but I do believe that if we have
placed a decision in God’s hands, prayed fervently,
consulted with our fellow Christians, and basically done
everything we can to discern God’s will, then we can act on our
convictions and do what we believe to be right without fear
that we will make a mistake. We might. There might be
consequences. But if we remember what Jesus has done, then
we remember that God’s love for us is unchanging, and
therefore the
mistakes we make in his
service are
opportunities for growth and learning. In short, holding back for
fear of making mistakes is being afraid to take hold of our
freedom in Christ.
Thank you God for giving us freedom to call upon you,
to discern your will, and to step out in faith and obedience to
serve you. Please teach us to trust more fully in Christ’s perfect
sacrifice and the love you have for us, so that we may
fearlessly pursue you.
Romans 8:15, ESV
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into
fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons, by
whom we cry ‘abba! Father!’”

Prayer At Evangel
Prayer is found throughout the scriptures as a way to draw closer to God, to connect with one another and to petition the Lord on behalf of our communities. When we gather in prayer, we are
able to connect with one another and praise the Lord, seeking His face and His will for our world.
We live in a very broken world, a world that is searching for hope. We have the hope that this
world needs, and we have the honour to enter into His gates daily! Please join us as we come before our Father with hearts of praise, with hearts of brokenness, and with hearts of expectations.
Let us join together in prayer!
"They all joined constantly together in prayer…" (Acts 1:15)
"After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and
spoke the word of God boldly" (Acts 4:31)
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always
keep on praying for all the saints." (Eph 6:18)
Prayer Times : Monday Mornings 6:00 am, Thursday Mornings 9:30 am,

MONDAY NIGHTS

The Word of God testifies of itself
that it is “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and
piercing as far as the division of soul
and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and [is] able to judge the
thoughts and
intentions of the heart"
(Hebrews 4:12).
It is also a Word for you and for your
walk with God because "All Scripture
is inspired by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction,
[and] for training in righteousness;
so that the man [and woman] of God
may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
