January’s President's Message:
Happy 2014 to you all! Last year was a busy year for most of us and PAL as well which
ended with a wonderful Christmas party on Fox Island. If you weren’t able to come you really missed some fun. On a personal note, I very unexpectedly found myself as President
for this coming year and hope that what I lack in experience I can make up for in enthusiasm. I am grateful to know that I have many fellow members who have the knowledge to
draw from who have offered their support. PAL has been successful and present in our
community and 2014 promises to continue that tradition. So many people whom I’m just
getting to know have worked very hard to make these events possible. Our annual Art Festival, Regional Show, exhibits and workshops are recognized throughout Washington and
beyond and I want to thank you all for your efforts as there is so much that goes into keeping it all running smoothly.
I am just getting to know more of you and I truly appreciate your friendship and inspiration. I look forward to an exciting
year ahead.
Kate Grizwold, President

Every year we are invited to be “Artists in the Garden” in conjunction with the Gig Harbor Garden Tour. It is fun to get
to see the gardens on the tour for free and to paint in lovely places and talk to public about art and what you do as an artist. This
year, any artist who has participated in the past (and has artwork from a past Garden Tour) is invited to take part in a special exhibit in June at Kimball Gallery- contact [email protected] right away to get information and so that we can plan. This exhibit
will be “on the map” as part of the “Gig Harbor Garden Tour” the last weekend in June. The Garden Tour always has huge attendance!
Make sure that you don’t miss out- contact Anne Knapp TODAY!
Chair Affair 2014
Use your creative talents to “re fashion” a piece of Furniture to benefit NW Furniture Bank. See
www.ChairAffair.org for info and email Dion Rurik ([email protected]) ASAP to participate. They have chairs available
to “adopt” and paint. It’s fun and it gives back to our community.
Are You OARtistic? Another fun way to give back to our community without giving your precious framed artwork away! This event
will be similar to Chair Affair or Salmon 'Chanted Evening- only easier. It will benefit the proposed Arts Center and will involve all
manner of artists . We will need artists who can decorate oars and artists who can brainstorm ideas with other groups who want to
take part. This event is anticipated to take place in early June- details still being arranged. Please contact [email protected]
you are intrigued! It will be fun and it will be the talk of the town!
The next Member’s show will be in March, 2014, with drop off on March 3rd between 3-5 pm. Kaye Barnes will be the
juror and it is in the works for her to teach a three day workshop prior to the reception on March 8th at Kimball Gallery. Be sure you are screened beforehand in whatever media you wish to submit.

PAL Christmas Party!
This year’s Christmas Party was held at the Fox Island Community Center.
What a great venue! There was lots of food, and lots of members present to
eat it all up! We all had fun, and the music was perfect. Thanks Charli!
There were some truly unique hand made ornaments for the exchange, too.
From a hand crocheted angle to strange bouncy wiry things. These are what
we will treasure throughout the years on our own Christmas Trees.
Oh, and don’t forget the unbelievable group sing of the 12 Days of Christmas!
What a way to wrap up 2013! Thanks to all for a wonderful time.

Newsletter Announcements:
As of January’s meeting, Newsletter deadline will now be the night of the general member’s meeting for the following
month’s newsletter. I expect this to expedite publication to the beginning of the month, to give member’s more planning time to attend events and activities.
Also please note I have changed the format slightly, so look carefully and will now be posting minutes of the GENERAL MEETING, instead of the Board Minutes. The Board minutes will still be posted to the web site. This is for the
benefit of members who miss a meeting. I still encourage you to send in articles and photos. Without you, this newsletter cannot cover what we do. Thank You, Carlene Salazar, Editor
