This film is a rare treasure of Australia’s Silent Screen heritage.
A delightful escapade of the adventures of “Fatty” Finn, the
scruffy leader of a gang of kids, and their attempts to race
Fatty’s pet goat Hector in a local goat race. This delightful
comedy is evidence that a classic silent film can still hold its
own. The film has it all – gangs and larrikins, marble bribes,
cricket, a poor little rich boy, an eloping couple – and of
course, the big billy goat race! In this film, Ordell who is
famous for playing Dave in the original screen version of
On Our Selection directs his own six-year-old son Robin
‘Pop’ Ordell in the role of Fatty Finn. The Kid Stakes is one
of the real gems of Australian silent era cinema, with wide
appeal to all ages and a charm that continues to this day.
Jan Preston has composed a new
score to accompany the film, receiving
tremendous response from audiences
around the world. Preston will perform

Little voices. Big dreams. Moving and funny. A heart-warming
documentary of an outback Australian children’s choir.
Here, sport is king and music education is non-existent.
It becomes clear for the children to believe in themselves,
all they all need someone who believes in them.
Set against a landscape of devastating beauty, Wide Open
Sky is a moving portrait of the fragile world of possibility
that is childhood and reminds us why no child, anywhere,
should grow up without music. Winner of the documentary
audience award at the Sydney Film Festival (2015).
