SCHOOLS
The Plano Independent School District (PISD) has
played a vital role in Plano’s economic success.
Each year, PISD student scores on college
entrance exams far exceed state and national
averages. Over the past two
years, PISD has had two U.S.
Presidential Scholars and 208

Finalists. All PISD school
campuses provide rigorous

INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING
With 25 universities in the region, there are over
157,000 students enrolled in four-year universities
and over 187,000 for-credit students enrolled in
community colleges. Southern Methodist University
in Plano and Collin College can be found in Plano
with the University of Texas-Dallas nearby.

CLIMATE
Plano’s elevation is at 695
feet above sea level. As
such, Plano’s climate is
classified as humid subtropical with hot summers,
mild winters and comfortable springs and autumns.
Plano, like most of Texas, enjoys many sunny days
throughout the year. Rainfall averages between 33
to 40 inches per year, most of which occurs during
the spring.

TAXES
The state of Texas has no personal or corporate
income tax. The City of Plano allows a significant
homestead exemption on its residential property
taxes, enabling its citizens to have the lowest
effective tax rate amongst other DFW area cities.
Plano has a combined tax rate $2.2627 per $100
valuation. A 6.25 percent state tax, 1 percent local
and 1 percent Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) tax
make up the 8.25 percent sales tax.
