BARBARA LANDERS BOWLES ‘68 – CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD
In 2007, Barbara Landers Bowles, retired as Vice Chair of Profit Investment
Management where she managed its midcap portfolios. After an illustrious career in the
investment management arena, she left to pursue her longtime goal of establishing and
funding the Landers Bowles Family Foundation that focuses on charity related to
education. She was the founder and served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief
Investment Officer of The Kenwood Group, Inc. from 1989 until it was acquired by Profit
in January of 2006. From 1984 to 1989, Bowles served as Corporate Vice President of
Kraft, Inc. and headed the investor relations department.
Bowles, a Nashville native, holds a M.B.A. degree in Finance from the University Of
Chicago Graduate School of Business and a B.A. degree in Mathematics with Honors
from Fisk University in 1968. She has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1977.
She serves as a director of several corporations and organizations including Wisconsin
Energy Corporation, Lurie Children’s Hospital, the Museum of Science and Industry,
and Hospira Inc.
In 2003, Barbara was honored with the Alumni of the Year Award from the African
American MBA Association of the University of Chicago and in February 2008, received
the Chicago African American History Maker Award from the DuSable Museum. In
addition to mentoring young people, Barbara enjoys bridge and tennis. She and her
husband, Earl, and their son Terrence, are residents of the Hyde Park-Kenwood
Community of Chicago.
H. JAMES WILLIAMS, Ph.D., 15th PRESIDENT
Dr. Williams earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting, at North Carolina Central University, a
M.B.A. Degree in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), a Ph.D. Degree
in Accounting, at the University of Georgia (Athens), and J.D. and LL.M. (Taxation)
Degrees, at Georgetown University Law Center. Dr. Williams is also a Certified Public
Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant, with a wealth of practical
experiences, having worked in the public accounting profession and in the legal
profession (as a corporate and tax attorney).
During his career, Dr. Williams has made significant contributions to the Academy,
receiving recognition for his outstanding teaching at Georgetown University, and three
“Teacher of the Year Awards” at Florida A&M University and Texas Southern University.

For his work with students and student organizations, Dr. Williams has also received
numerous recognitions and awards. His research work is widely published in scholarly
and practitioner journals, including Accounting and Finance, Technovation, Issues in
Accounting Education, Advances in Quantitative Analysis of Finance and Accounting,
The Journal of Accountancy, The Practical Accountant, The Journal of Small Business
Management, and The CPA Journal. Finally, Dr. Williams serves on the Fifth Third Bank
Advisory Board and is a member of The Rotary Club of Nashville.
Dean Williams hails from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is married to Carole
Campbell Williams (of Flint, Michigan). The Williamses have a twenty-two-year-old
daughter and an eighteen-year-old son.
JACQUELYN DENTON ALTON ‘66
Jacquelyn Denton Alton is President of Almeda Travel. She is responsible for the
overall management of all government, military, corporate and leisure operations
nationwide. Almeda Travel was founded in 1977 by Jacquelyn and her late husband
Washington I. Alton. Today Almeda Travel is the 2 nd largest African American owned
travel agency in the United States.
Mrs. Alton is the immediate past President of the Society of Government Professionals,
an organization which is the National Forum for the $70 Billion Government Travel
Market. She was named Person of the Year in 2005 for this organization. Mrs. Alton
served for five years on the United States House of Representatives Travel and
Tourism Caucus. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Houston Convention
Visitors Bureau, Institute for the Association of Travel Agents, Houston Executive
Women in Travel and President of Inter American Travel Agents Society for two terms.
Mrs. Alton is a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a Life Member of the
NAACP. She presently serves as President of the Houston Chapter of Links, Inc. and is
an active member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Alton received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fisk University in 1966, and a
Masters of Education from Howard University. She received from Wellesley College a
Certified Travel Counselor Degree.
Jacquelyn is a native of Little Rock, Arkansas and has two adult children, Kimberley
Alton and W. Reynard Alton. She was married to the late Washington I. Alton (Fisk
Class of 1966) for 29 years.
CAMILLA PERSSON BENBOW, Ed.D.
Camilla Persson Benbow is the Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human
Development at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, a position she has held since
1998.

Dean Benbow’s scholarly work focuses on gifted children and the development of
mathematical talent. Benbow co-directs the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth
(SMPY), a longitudinal study examining the developmental trajectories of over 5,000
individuals throughout the life-span. The study has been continuously funded since
1981. She is particularly interested in identifying the educational experiences and
interventions most conducive to developing intellectual talent and excellence in careers
in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Benbow began her academic career at Johns Hopkins University in 1981 as an
associate research scientist. In 1986, Iowa State University appointed her associate
professor of psychology. She was promoted to full professor in 1990, became
department chair in 1992, and in 1995, was named distinguished professor. She was
appointed interim dean of education at Iowa State in 1996. While at Iowa State she
also directed pre-collegiate programs for gifted and talented students.
She has authored or co-authored more than 100 articles and 35 chapters. She is the
editor, with Dr. David Lubinski, of Intellectual Talent: Psychometric and Social
Issues (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996), and with Julian Stanley, of Academic
Precocity: Aspects of its Development (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1983).
Benbow was appointed to the National Science Board in 2006; she chairs the
Committee on Education and Human Resources. From 2006-2008, she served as vicechair of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and as a commissioner of the Science
and Mathematics Teacher Imperative, an initiative of the National Association of State
Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. Benbow is also a member of the board of the
American Psychological Foundation, and she co-founded and co-chairs the committee
of AAU College of Education Deans.
A fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Educational
Research Association, she has received the David Imig Award from the American
Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (2010), the President’s Award from the
National Association for Gifted Children (2009), and the Distinguished Alumna Award
from Johns Hopkins University (2008). In 2004, she received the Lifetime Achievement
Award from the MENSA Education and Research Foundation.
Benbow received her Ed.D., with distinction, from Johns Hopkins University (1981),
from which she also received her B.A. (1977) and M.A. (1978) in psychology and her
M.S. in education (1980).
JOHN W. BLUFORD, III ‘71, FACHE
John W. Bluford, III has served as Truman Medical Centers’ (TMC) President/Chief
Executive Officer for the past eleven years. Bluford’s tenure at TMC is part of a
distinguished career in hospital and health system administration that has spanned
more than three decades. Bluford is a nationally known healthcare innovator who has
been recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the Most Influential People in

Healthcare. In 2011, the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees elected
Bluford as Chairman of the Board following several years of service on various
committees with the association. Bluford is also a Past Chair of the National
Association of Public Hospitals, Past Chairman of the Missouri Hospital Association,
and Past Chair of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
Among the accomplishments Bluford is most proud of in his career is helping to change
the culture of the organizations he has led to become more customer service, patient
safety-oriented and more innovative. Above all, Bluford has succeeded at transforming
the hospitals he has led into hospitals of first choice for patients, employees and
community partnerships. In 2005, TMC was honored by University Health System
Consortium as one of the Top Five Academic Medical Centers in the country. Bluford’s
financial accomplishments at TMC include increasing total net revenue by 123% from
$197 million to $440 million over the course of eleven years (2000-2011) and a
quadrupling of commercial insurance revenue. TMC has invested over a quarter billion
in capital improvements and technology during his tenure.
Bluford began his career in 1972 as the evening administrator at Cook County Hospital
in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to coming to TMC, he served for 21 years in various leadership
capacities at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, including the
last six as its CEO.
His awards and achievements are numerous and include the Kansas City Non-Profit
Professional of the Year Award (2010), Richland (South Carolina School District) One
Hall of Fame (2010), Missouri Hospital Association’s Distinguished Service Award
(2009), Modern Healthcare 100 Most Influential (2007); NCCJ Harmony Distinguished
Citizen Award (2006); NAACP Special Achievement Award (2004); Missouri Hospital
Association Visionary Leadership Award (2003).
Bluford has presented nationally and internationally on the subjects of Managed Care
and Change Management in Healthcare Organizations. International presentation
locations include: Alyn Orthopedic Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel; Siemens Incorporated,
Erlangen, Germany; and Conference for Independent States, St. Petersburg, Russia.
He is a frequent contributor to Modern Healthcare, Healthcare Leaders, and the
American Hospital Association News Publication.
LINDA E. BROWN COLEMAN ‘70, Ph.D.
Linda E. Brown Coleman, Ph.D. is Chief Executive Officer of R & L Group, Inc. (1993present), a private corporation providing services to individuals with special needs in the
Houston and Dallas areas through a contract with the state of Texas.

A 1970 graduate of Fisk University, with a B.A. in Sociology, Dr. Coleman received her
M.A. in Sociology from Texas Southern University and her Ph.D. in Sociology from the
University of Houston.
Prior to her election as the Chair of the General Alumni Association of Fisk University,
Inc., Dr. Coleman served as the Association’s Vice Chair. She is the past Chair of the
Southwest Region and an active member of the Houston Fisk Club.
Dr. Coleman’s career in the field of education spanned 30 years in the State of Texas.
Her career includes teaching in the public schools of Bryan, Texas and Houston, Texas.
Having served as a Professor of Sociology at Houston Community College and Texas
Southern University, Dr. Coleman retired from San Jacinto College in 2000. Her
community activities include serving as a former board member at St. Mary’s, Project
Row House and Martin Luther King Community Center. She is currently a board
member at Parish School.
Dr. Coleman and her husband, Charley, are the parents of six daughters and
grandparents of four
(3 girls and 1 boy).
MIKE CURB, J.D., TRUSTEE EMERITUS
Mike Curb is the Chairman of Curb Records. His company was honored by Billboard
Magazine as the 2001 Billboard Country Music Label of the Year.
Mr. Curb has been a member of the World Board of Governors of the USO and served
on the Board of Directors for the Dole Food Company, the Economic Growth Board for
the State of Tennessee, The Academy of Country Music, the Country Music
Association, and the Country Music Foundation, which operated the Country Music Hall
of Fame.
In 1978, Mr. Curb was elected California’s Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Curb previously
served as a member of the Board of Regents for the University of California and the
Board of Trustees for the California State Universities. He is the recipient of a Doctor of
Law Degree from Pepperdine University. The Mike Curb School of Music Business at
Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee was dedicated in 1995. Mr. Curb served as
Chairman of the Board for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. He was recently honored
as Father of the Year by the National Father’s Day Council and has been inducted into
the National Business Hall of Fame.
CHERYL McKISSACK DANIEL
Cheryl McKissack Daniel, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The McKissack
Group, Inc., has more than 20 years of experience in all phases of the construction
industry, including major project work in the commercial, healthcare, education and
transportation sectors. Born in Nashville to architect William D. Berry and teacher

Leatrice McKissack, Cheryl represents the fifth generation of the McKissack family’s
century old business, McKissack & McKissack, the oldest minority and woman-owned
professional design and construction firm in the nation.
The McKissack Group provides comprehensive architectural, engineering, construction
management and consulting services for various project types throughout the East
Coast and the United States. The McKissack family of services extends into areas of
expertise beyond traditional A/E/C disciplines, broadly supporting client needs related to
their facilities. Over the years, Cheryl has built upon the success of her firm’s fore
parents by fostering long lasting relationships and by providing innovative solutions to
complex projects.
As President and CEO, Cheryl serves as Project Executive on all of the firm’s high
profile projects. Some of Cheryl’s most distinguished clients include Columbia
University, the Dormitory of the State of New York, the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the City of Philadelphia, the
Philadelphia Housing Authority, and Philadelphia International Airport.
Cheryl is also an active community leader, and serves on various community boards
including the Philadelphia Authority of Industrial Development and the National Liberty
Museum Board, where she was recently honored as a “Hero of Liberty” for her support
of humanitarian initiatives and for promoting the responsibilities of a free and diverse
America. Cheryl served as co-chair on Philadelphia Mayor John Street’s Transition
Committee for Small Business, and is an active member in the New York Building
Congress, Women in Transportation (WTS), and other professional organizations.
BROOKE DAVIES, 2013-2014 PRESIDENT, STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
Brooke Davies is a rising senior pursuing her B.S. in Chemistry from Joelton, TN. Miss
Davies has interests ranging from Political science and law to music and material
science. Miss Davies has been a student leader since her arrival at Fisk in the fall
semester of 2010 beginning as a student ambassador, a volunteer office assistant in the
Carnegie Business Office and as an Orientation Leader for the 2011 freshman
orientation week.
Brooke takes on her third term as a member of the Fisk Student Government
Association in the fall 2013 semester having previously served as the Sophomore Class
Representative and Executive Vice-President to finally end her Student Government
pursuits as the SGA President for the Academic year 2013-2014. She stands firmly on
the Platform of 'Driving the Student Engine For Such a Time as This' taken from Esther
4:14 using the vehicle of the I Am Project. The desired result of a fulfilled platform is an
empowered campus where each student will take ownership of the academy so they
may proudly proclaim ‘I Am Fisk, and Fisk is MY University.’

Alongside civic service and volunteerism, academics have always been a top priority to
Brooke; this scientifically inclined lady served for two years as the Deputy Project
Manager for the Fisk Altitude Achievement Missile Team (FAAMT)where she enjoyed
doing Outreach demonstrations for young people in the community as well as building
rockets and filing reports. Additionally, she has spent time in several research arenas
including biochemistry with a study of the Dopamine Transporter (DAT) protein and its
possible connection to addictions at Vanderbilt University as well as nanotechnology
and material science at Florida State University. Miss Davies recently had this
nanotechnology work published in paper entitled 'Self-aligned carbon nanotubes yarns
(CNY) with efficient optoelectronic interface for microyarn shaped 3D photovoltaic cells'
from the journal Solar Energy Materials & Solar Cells. After completing her studies at
Fisk, Miss Davies plans to pursue her PhD in material science and eventually do
munitions research for the US Air Force.
As a small town girl who had been homeschooled from pre-K to high school, Brooke
readily cites Fisk as a major factor in her transformation into the confident young lady
she is today. "As a Fisk student, I've been privileged to experience everything from
student government to rocket launches, yet this is only a small taste of why Fisk is MY
University."
KATHERINE READ EZELL
Katherine Read Ezell is a principal at Market Solutions Consulting working as a
marketing and development consultant to public education reform organizations, such
as the Tennessee Charter School Incubator.
Mrs. Ezell chairs the Middle Tennessee regional Jefferson Scholars Committee for the
University of Virginia and currently serves as a board member for the Cheekwood
Museum & Botanical Garden, “Time to Rise” (academically-based program for “at risk”
youth) and the Women’s Fund at the Nashville Community Foundation.
Mrs. Ezell has worked in strategy, development and marketing for educational and artsrelated non-profits such as Cheekwood, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra Advisory
Council, the Junior League of Nashville Development Council, Humanities Tennessee
Southern Festival of Books, YMCA Domestic Violence Center, The Frist Center for the
Visual Arts, TPAC Friends, Nashville Ballet Board, Nashville Chamber Orchestra Board,
Yale University, Montgomery Bell Academy, The Harpeth Hall School, The Ensworth
School and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
Mrs. Ezell grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from the University of
Virginia with degrees in English and French Literature, Mrs. Ezell worked for the
Brennan family in New Orleans and Dallas, handling restaurant sales and marketing,
staff training, and general management. Upon graduation with an MBA from the
University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business in 1981, Ms. Ezell worked in New

York for Warburg Paribas Becker, later acquired by Merrill Lynch, in the corporate
finance and capital markets groups.
Mrs. Ezell and her husband, Steven, moved to Nashville in 1986 and have three
children who now live in New York, NY; Cairo, Egypt; and Sewanee, TN.
EDWARD N. GEORGE
Edward (Eddie) George is a former American football running back of the NFL. He
played for the Tennessee Titans both in Tennessee and in Houston when the franchise
was known as the Houston Oilers, and spent his final season with the Dallas Cowboys.
He is known for his career with the Tennessee Titans and as a Heisman Trophy winner
at the Ohio State University. He currently serves as the Assistant Vice President of the
Ohio State University Foundation at The Ohio State University.
Mr. George won the NFL Rookie of the Year award in 1996, and was the Oilers/Titans'
starting tailback until 2003, never missing a start due to injury. He made the Pro Bowl 4
times (1997-2000), and assisted the Titans to a championship appearance in Super
Bowl XXXIV. George gained 391 combined rushing and receiving yards in the Titans' 3
playoff games that year, and went on to rush for 95 yards, catch 2 passes for 35 yards,
and score 2 touchdowns in the Super Bowl. George signed a one-year contract with the
Dallas Cowboys on July 23, 2004. He retired from the NFL before the 2005 season.
Mr. George has done numerous television work. He has hosted a video-game themed
show (G4's Training Camp) and now hosts a pregame show with Jason Sehorn, Tim
Brown, and Fox Sports Insider Jay Glazer.
With partners, Mr. George has opened sports-theme restaurants in Nashville,
Tennessee and in Columbus, Ohio. George is also a trained and licensed landscape
architect, and a Principal of The Edge Group, a firm of over 20 professionals.
EDDIE D. HAMILTON, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Hamilton is a native of Paducah, Kentucky. He is the founder and administrator of
Centennial Pediatrics. He began his practice in the Centennial Park location in 1990.
The practice was aptly named Centennial Pediatrics, due to its proximity to Centennial
Park and association with Centennial Medical Center. In addition to his full time
practice, Dr. Hamilton serves as the administrator for Centennial Pediatrics. Dr.
Hamilton expanded Centennial Pediatrics to include offices in the following locations:
Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Dickson, Smyrna and Bellevue.
Dr. Hamilton has devoted his practice to the provision of quality health care to infants
and children of all races, ethnic groups and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 1994, with
introduction of TennCare, many community physicians refused to participate in this

controversial program. Dr. Hamilton made the decision to tackle TennCare head on
and created a facility called Nashville Primary Care for Children. This facility was
dedicated to the care of all children despite their insurance status, with physicians and
nurse practitioners providing the same level of excellent care that would be expected in
any other medical office. This office was successful in finding a way to provide state of
the art medical care and remain financially viable in a difficult “managed care”
environment. It remains to this day in the Southern Hills area and is truly a multinational
pediatric office.
Dr. Hamilton is active in a number of child advocacy groups representing the
Tennessee Chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
He was appointed to the Children’s Cabinet by Governor Bredesen in 2004. Dr.
Hamilton completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He earned
an M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and a B.S. in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Hamilton is a member of
the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet; Minority Health Advisory Council; TNAAP/TennCare
EPSDT Council; Children’s Health Committee, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital;
Emergency Department Committee, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and Amos Christie
Society.
Dr. Hamilton is married to the former Arnetta Davie. They share four children, Corey,
Janean, Lance and Myles. He has been a member of the Schrader Lane Church of
Christ since his arrival to Nashville in 1981.
MICHAEL E. HAMPTON ‘76
Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Fisk
University in 1976. He is the founder, Chief Executive Officer and sole stockholder of
Mike Hampton Properties, a Memphis, Tennessee-based corporation. The company’s
portfolio of multi-family apartments carries a net book value of $26 million, and includes
projects and properties in Nashville, Memphis and Chattanooga.
Over his 30-year career, Michael has a distinguished track record of success in diverse
sectors. He owns and operates several health care properties in Tennessee and four
other states. He has also diversified his investments in the energy and leisure
industries.
He is the fourth born child in a family of six children. He is the son of Joe and Hazel
Hampton and was raised in Nashville on a golf course, where his father was the club
pro. Michael attended Fisk University on a football scholarship. After graduating in
1976, he entered Rutgers Graduate School of Business on an academic scholarship.
The Hampton Fisk legacy includes his late brother, Joe Hampton, Jr., sister, Karen
Hampton, and aunt, Vivian Hampton Tucker. Michael proudly supports various urban
youth programs. He is also a Life Member of the General Alumni Association of Fisk
University, Inc.

AMANDA GRISCOM LITTLE
Amanda Little is the author of Power Trip: The Story of America’s Love Affair With
Energy (HarperCollins) and teaches investigative journalism and new media at
Vanderbilt University. Little has published widely on the environment, energy and
technology for more than a decade. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times
Magazine, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Wired,
O Magazine, New York, and the
Washington Post. She wrote a syndicated weekly column about green politics on
Grist.org and Salon.com, and a monthly column on green innovation for Outside
magazine. She currently writes a blog about the new energy economy for Forbes.com
and is the recipient of the Jane Bagley Lehman Award for excellence in environmental
journalism.
Little has been working in online media since 1996, when she was the first employee of
the first online magazine, FEED. Thereafter she wrote a column for The Village Voice,
“Urban Upgrade,” which examined technology in New York City’s institutions and
infrastructure. Little has published interviews with public figures ranging from Barack
Obama and Hillary Clinton to John McCain and Rupert Murdoch. She has appeared on
MSNBC, Fox News, National Public Radio, and has delivered lectures and keynotes for
events, institutions and companies including TEDx, Lexus, Baxter, the Clean-Tech
Investor Summit, and the Garden Club of America. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee
with her husband and children.
CHALLIS M. LOWE
Challis M. Lowe is Senior Vice President of Organizational Development and Human
Resources (HR) at Ascension Health. She leads Ascension Health’s work in all aspects
of strategic organizational development.
Through partnerships with executives
throughout the system, she is responsible for the development of organizational
capabilities across the Health System. Ms. Lowe also provides leadership to Ascension
Health’s System Office and Ascension Health Information Services HR services.
Ms. Lowe brings extensive human resource leadership experience to her role, serving in
leadership roles at large national and international organizations. Most recently, she
served as Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Dollar General
Corporation, a $13 billion discount retailer with more than 9,000 locations and more
than 70,000 employees. She has also held leadership positions at Ryder System, a
global logistics and transportation services company, and Beneficial Finance, an

international consumer finance company. She spent the early part of her career in line
management roles in banking and in a global commercial finance company.
Ms. Lowe holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Northwestern
University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She has served on the Board
and as Treasurer of The Executive Leadership Council; Chair of the Board of Trustees
of Florida A&M University; board member and chair of the compensation committee for
the South Financial Group; and as a board member of Prairie Holdings Corp (a Real
Estate Investment Trust). She currently serves as a board member of the Daughters of
Charity Foundation; as a board member and chair of the associate services committee
of Catholic Healthcare Auditors Network (an organization the provides internal audit
services to the healthcare industry); and as a member of the Finance Committee and
former board member of the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation.
HASSELL M. McCLELLAN ’67, D.B.A.
Associate Professor of Finance and Policy (retired) and former Associate Dean of Boston
College’s Carroll School of Management, Hassell H. McClellan was a member of the faculty at
Boston College’s Carroll School of Management from 1984 to June 2013. He was also a
member of the faculty at the Harvard Business School from 1978 to 1980. As the Associate
Dean from 1996-2000, he was responsible for the leadership of Boston College’s MBA and
graduate management program that achieved its first ever ranking in in U.S. News and World
Report’s Top 50 Business Schools in 2000.
Specializing in strategic management and management of financial services institutions, Dr.
McClellan is the author of a book, “Managing One-Bank Holding Companies”, as well as articles
and case studies on these topics. At Boston College, he served on numerous university
committees including the University Academic Planning Committee (UAPC). He has also been
a Visiting Professor at the Stuttgart Institute of Management (Germany), the University of
Strasbourg (France) and a Distinguished Lecturer and Scholar at ESADE Business School in
Barcelona, Spain.
Managing Principal of the Setzer Group Boston, Dr. McClellan is an active consultant and
advisor to corporate, public sector and educational institutions including General Electric, IBM,
Howard University, ESADE Business School, the Graduate Management Admissions Council
and Simmons College. He has also served on the US Small Business Administration’s National
Advisory Council on Underserved Communities.
Professor McClellan has served on the boards of a number of educational and non-profit
institutions including the Board of Directors of Dental Service of Massachusetts (Delta Dental
Plans) and the Board of Trustees of Thayer Academy, Lesley University, Tufts-New England
Medical Center and the Board of Overseers of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
He currently serves on the Board of Overseers of The Museum of Fine Arts of Boston and the
Presidential Advisory Board of Berklee College of Music.

Variable Insurance Trust, John Hancock Funds, Virtus Variable Insurance Trust and a Director of

LEATRICE B. McKISSACK ‘51, Hon.D.H.L., TRUSTEE EMERITA
Leatrice B. McKissack retired after seventeen years as Chief Executive Officer of
McKissack & McKissack, an architectural and engineering construction management
company with offices in Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, PA and Washington, DC.
Mrs. McKissack has been cited by two Presidents of the United States for her business
acumen and strategic vision. Called one of America’s most powerful and successful
black business women by BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine, she has received
numerous awards: The National Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Presented by
President Bush in 1990), and the Presidential Design Award (presented by President
Clinton in 1994). Other honors and awards include The National Federation of Black
Women Business Owners Courage Award; Howard University’s School of Business
Award; Florida A&M University R. Joyce Whitley Award, YWCA Academy for Women of
Achievement Award; National Conference of Christians and Jews Award; MBDE
Women Owned Business of the Year Award.
She has served on the Governor of Tennessee’s Economic Growth Board; Nashville
Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors and the Nashville Symphony Board. Mrs.
McKissack received her bachelor’s degree from Fisk University and a master’s degree
in Psychology from Tennessee State University. In 1995, Mrs. McKissack received the
NAFEO Distinguished Alumni Award.
Known as a patron of the arts, she serves on the Cheekwood Museum of Art Board and
the New York American Federation of Art Board.
On October 17, 2003, Mrs. McKissack was honored at the Kennedy Center with a
plaque and medal for the National Visionary Leadership Project founded by Camille
Cosby, which is also mentioned in The Wealth of Wisdom. Most recently she was
added to the list of History Makers. In May 2009, she received an honorary doctorate
degree from Fisk University.
ADRIENNE SERAILE McWILLIAMS ‘77
Adrienne Seraile McWilliams was awarded her B.A. in English, with honors, in 1977.
She is vice president of Eastern Sales for REACH Media, the sales arm for The Tom
Joyner Morning Show and all of its assets, including his signature events, Family
Reunion, The Fantastic Voyage, Take a Loved One to the Doctor, and his website,

BlackAmericaWeb.com. Her primary responsibility is to reach the company’s revenue
goals by developing marketing programs that reach the African American consumer.
Prior to this Adrienne was Vice President of Urban Sales for Citadel Media and The
ABC Radio Networks. She began her career in local radio during college as a news
writer for WSM Radio, Nashville and has worked in various capacities of sales and
management for broadcast outlets in New York City. She is a native Washingtonian.
Adrienne resides in New York City and enjoys volunteer work with Youth on the Move,
Harlem Little League and The Exodus Transitional Community, a program to assist exoffenders mainstream into society. She is a Life Member of the General Alumni
Association of Fisk University, Inc. and a member of the Deaconess Board of the
Abyssinian Baptist Church where she serves on the executive board. She is married,
with three sons and is the proud grandparent of one granddaughter.
PATRICIA CASTLES MEADOWS, CPA, VICE CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD
Pat Meadows began her business career with Touche Ross & Co. in 1969. Upon
leaving Touche Ross she co-founded the Nashville accounting firm which later became
Williams, Crosslin, Sparks & Vaden, P.C. In 2000, she sold her interest with that firm
and began practicing as a sole practitioner, principally performing business valuations
for entities in a variety of fields from medical services to telecommunications and
providing financial consulting for business clients. She has been licensed as a Certified
Valuation Analyst (CVA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Fraud
Examiner (CFE), licenses which she has retired, and as an inactive Certified Public
Accountant.
Throughout her career, Pat has been involved with professional and service
organizations including serving as President of the Nashville Chapter of the Tennessee
Society of Certified Public Accountants, chair of the boards of the Arthritis Foundations
of Middle Tennessee, YWCA of Middle Tennessee and Cable (a Nashville business
women’s organization), and as a board member of the Nashville Area Habitat for
Humanity and Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. She presently serves as
president of Dixie Graphics, Inc. in Nashville, as treasurer of the Tennessee Historical
Society and is a long time member of the Nashville Women’s Breakfast Club.
She received a B.S. in business education from George Peabody College (now part of
Vanderbilt University) in 1969.
Pat has one grown son, Matt Williams, who also lives in Nashville.
LESLIE MEEK ‘87, J.D.
Leslie Meek was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 9, 1965. She attended New York
and Chicago Public Schools.

In 1987, Judge Meek graduated from Fisk University where she earned a B.A. in
Political Science. Three years later, she earned her Juris Doctorate from Case Western
Reserve University School of Law. While attending law school, Mrs. Meek was
personally recruited by former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and became an
Assistant State’s Attorney in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Mrs. Meek also served as
Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami and as Assistant General Counsel for the
Comptroller of the State of Florida.
In July 1995, she moved to the United Teachers of Dade, the fourth largest teacher’s
local in the country. In May 2000, Mrs. Meek was appointed General Counsel for the
United Teachers of Dade, making her the first African-American to ascend to the
position. Currently, Mrs. Meek serves as an Administrative Law Judge for the District of
Columbia’s Department of Employment Services. Additionally, she manages her own
consulting and mediation firm.
Mrs. Meek is the immediate past Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)
Spouses, an arm of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. In this role, Mrs.
Meek led the group’s fundraising efforts, which support the CBC Spouses Education
Scholarship Program, a fund that provides financial assistance to needy college and
university students across the country.
Leslie Meek is a member of the Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, a life member
of the NAACP and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She has served as a
Board Member of the Jackson Memorial Hospital Foundation, one of the largest public
hospitals in the country. Mrs. Meek has also served on the Florida Bar Grievance
Committee, the Dade County Advisory Board for Minority Women Businesses and the
Camillus House Capital Campaign.
Leslie Meek is married to Congressman Kendrick B. Meek, Sr. They have two children,
Lauren and Kendrick, Jr.
STEVEN H. MORGAN, PH.D. – FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE 2013-2014
Dr. Steven H. Morgan is the Chair of the Faculty Assembly for the 2013-2014 academic
year and a Professor of Physics at Fisk University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics
from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1981 and his Bachelor of Science
degree in Physics from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee,
in 1974. Dr. Morgan joined Fisk in 1981 as a research associate in the Department of
Physics and became full Professor in 2000. He was chair of the Department of Physics
for just over 10 years and then became chair of the newly formed Department of Life
and Physical Sciences, a position which he currently holds. He also serves as the
2013-2014 Chair of the Fisk Faculty Assembly and is a member of the Steering
Committee
for
the
Fisk-Vanderbilt
Masters-to-PhD
Bridge
Program.
Dr. Morgan is active in research and is currently Co-Principal Investigator of the The

Center for Physics and Chemistry of Materials (CPCoM) at Fisk University which is
funded by the National Science Foundation. His research interests lie in the area of
materials physics with specific emphasis on the development of glass and glass
ceramic
optical
materials.
Dr. Morgan is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He and his wife Lorene are the
parents of two daughters and the grandparents of two boys and one girl.
Dr. Mobley received a B.A. in Chemistry from Fisk University in 1966 and an M.D. from
Howard University in 1970. After her internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital,
Georgetown University and her residency at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Program, Dr. Mobley was Board Certified in 1975
through the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
GREGG F. MORTON
On August 16, 2007, AT&T, Inc. appointed Gregg F. Morton as State President of
Tennessee. Morton brings over 32 years of telecommunications experience to the job
of overseeing the company’s operations in the state.
As President of AT&T Tennessee, Morton works closely with community leaders and
state policymakers to help meet the company’s objective of bringing the best new
technology to consumers. He has led legislative efforts in Tennessee and in South
Carolina to update 1934 era laws that fail to recognize the highly competitive
Telecommunications landscape that exists today. Most recently, in 2008, Morton led
AT&T’s efforts to obtain video franchise reform in Tennessee which paved the way for
AT&T to offer Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) in Tennessee.
Mr. Morton began his career with Southern Bell in Charleston, South Carolina in
1978. He held assignments with increasing responsibility from 1982 to 1989 in
Columbia, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1989, Mr. Morton was promoted to
Director - Legislative Affairs in BellSouth’s Washington, D.C. office. He returned to
Columbia in 1992 as BellSouth’s Executive Director for Governmental and Public
Relations in South Carolina. In January of 1997, Mr. Morton was promoted to VicePresident Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for South Carolina Operations. In 2004,
Mr. Morton was promoted to Vice-President-Legislation and Chief of Staff of the
BellSouth Washington, D.C. office of Governmental Relations. In January of 2007, he
was named President of South Carolina-AT&T.
Mr. Morton was born in Aiken, South Carolina and graduated from Clemson University
in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Administrative Management. He has been involved in
numerous community and civic organizations throughout his career.
Currently, he is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of United Way of Metropolitan
Nashville, Vice President of the Tennessee Business Roundtable, Immediate Past
Chairman of the Tennessee State Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of The
National Museum of African American Music, a member of the Board of Directors of the

Nashville Symphony, Executive Board Member of the Boy Scouts-Middle Tennessee
Council, a member of the Board of Trustees for Fisk University, a member of the Senior
Advisory Board of the College of Business and Behavioral Science at Clemson
University and a member of the Nashville Rotary Club. He is a former Chairman of the
Board of Regents for Leadership South Carolina and past Chairman of the Clemson
University Board of Visitors.
He is married to Cathy Thomas Morton and they have two children.
TEMITOPE O. OBANLA ’14, STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE 2013-2014
Temitope Obanla is a senior computer science major from Lagos, Nigeria. Currently, he
serves in the position of Chief Justice for the 2013-2014 Student Government
Association. He has dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge as a means to
positively influence the lives of the people around him. A Computer Science and
Mathematics major with interests in Politics, Management, Psychology, Philosophy and
the Arts, he Graduated from Baptist Academy in Lagos, Nigeria as class salutatorian in
2009. Post-graduation, he attended the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University where
he majored in Electrical Engineering for about one year before beginning his studies at
Fisk University. Since 2009, Temitope has been an active member of the Baptist
Academy Old Student Association (BAOSA), hosting the first class re-union in
December of 2011.
Since arriving at Fisk University in the Fall 2010, Temitope has served with both AESP
and LEAD as a volunteer tutor in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science.
“Knowledge parted is knowledge gained” has been his motto in life. During his years at
Fisk, he has served as the campus Leader on the Every Nation Campus Ministry
(ENCM) Team, a member of the Fisk Altitude Achievement Missile Team (FAAMT) and
as a Senator for the Computer Science Club. Additionally, he has worked as a
Research Assistant with the Physics and Computer Science departments publishing a
paper titled "A genetic algorithm application for determining a optimal/close to optimal
combination of students in an admission process". This summer Temitope will be
interning with the Technology Division of Goldman Sachs in New York, after which he
will assume the office of Chief Justice of the SGA for the 2013-2014 school year.
Temitope speaks English and Yoruba fluently and speaks intermediate level Brazilian
Portuguese. He enjoys skating, playing soccer, and ping pong.
After graduation from Fisk, Temitope plans to obtain an MBA from a Top 5 business
school and establish self-sustaining charity organizations back home in Nigeria.
SHEILA PETERS, Ph.D., FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE
Sheila Peters is Associate Professor of Psychology and the Psychology Discipline
Coordinator at Fisk University in the Department of Behavioral Science and Education.
Within the Fisk community, she has served as Associate Provost, Chair of Psychology

and Faculty Assembly Chair. She served as Interim Director of the Fisk Race Relations
Institute and continues to provide training for cultural competence in communities,
institutions and systems of care. She is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Director
and provides leadership to the infusion of critical thinking across the university
curriculum. She is a licensed clinical psychologist working with individuals across the
life span from four to eighty and beyond.
Dr. Peters is a national expert on youth development in the juvenile justice arena and
provides training on gender-specific programming for females as well as males at risk
for entering the juvenile justice. She has worked with youth for over twenty years
including serving as a Board member to RealSports Leadership Academy. Her
research interests focus on civic engagement, the status of women in higher education
and the burden of celebrity on professional athletes.
Dr. Peters is the author of several scholarly articles and manuscripts including, but not
limited to, “Feminism,” “Funerals,” “Family Life” and “Comedy” in the Encyclopedia of
African American Popular Culture, Relationships’ Role in Female Juvenile Delinquency,
Guiding Principles for Promising Female Programming: An Inventory of Best Practices
and Location, Location, Location: Residential Segregation and Wealth Disparity.
At Fisk, Dr. Peters serves as the advisor to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the
Junior Class and Fisk C.A.R.E.S. (compassionate activism through responsible
engagement in service). She has provided leadership in service learning activities
including the Alternative Spring Break targeting Katrina impacted New Orleans. She
serves as the Director of the Fisk Counseling Center and provides leadership to Project
Stop Now, a domestic violence prevention program.
Her civic obligations include serving as past President of the Nashville Branch of the
N.A.A.C.P., former commissioner of the Metro Human Relations Commission, board
member of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth, Oasis, and the ACLU.
Currently, she serves as an Executive member of the N.A.A.C. P. and board member
for Tennessee Voices for Children. She is a former member of Societas Docta, Inc. and
the Coalition of 100 Black Women. She serves as Parliamentarian of the Parthenon
Chapter of the Links, Inc., a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Nashville Alumnae
Chapter and the Nashville Women’s Breakfast Club and as a volunteer in the
“I Have
a Future” comprehensive adolescent prevention program. She is a three time nominee
for the Nashville Athena Award.
FRANK L. SIMS
Frank L. Sims recently retired from Cargill, Inc. In addition to his demonstrated acumen
as a strategic thinker and leader, Frank is especially well versed in commodity risk
management with a keen eye to the oversight of enterprise risks. He is a team player
who understands and practices effective corporate governance as he provides strong
leadership underpinned to his analytical and strategic reasoning.

At Cargill, Sims advanced to lead major strategic business segments both in the United
States and internationally. He retired in December of 2007, as Corporate Vice
President, and as a distinguished member of the Corporate Management Team. As
President of Cargill’s North American Grain Business, Sims was responsible for the
production of revenues of $6 billion annually and 2,500 employees in the division.
Sims’ previous board and related experience includes service as Chairman of the
Board, Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank; Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of
Transportation; Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture; and a fifteenyear member of the Chicago Board of Trade.
His current board experience includes: Chair of the Audit Committee and member of
the Compensation Committee, Piper Jaffray Company; Chair of the Corporate
Governance Committee and member of the Compensation Committee, PolyMet Mining
Company; and member of the board, South Jersey Industries, Inc. In addition, Sims
serves as a member of the non-profit boards of United Theological Seminary
(Minnesota) and PACT, Inc. (Washington, DC).
He is a 1972 graduate of Paul Quinn College where he earned his B.A. in Business
