Light Our Way
What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Catholics believe that “The whole Christ is really, truly, and substantially present in the Holy Eucharist. We use
the words ‘really, truly, and substantially’ to describe Christ’s presence in the Holy Eucharist in order to
distinguish Our Lord’s teaching from that of mere men who falsely teach that the Holy Eucharist is only a sign or
figure of Christ, or that He is present only by His power.” (The Baltimore Catechism, Lesson 26)
“Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper while the Apostles were present, the night before He died.
Christ could not have used clearer, more explicit words than ‘This is My body.’ He did not say, ‘This is a sign of
My body,’ or ‘This represents My body,’ but, ‘This is My body.’ Catholics take Christ at His word because He is the omnipotent
God. On His word they know that the Holy Eucharist is the body and blood of Christ.” (The Baltimore Catechism, Lesson 26)
Eucharistic adoration is the act of worshiping God as He is present in the consecrated Eucharist. Spending time before the Blessed
Sacrament, in prayer and devotion, is exactly the same as spending time before the living God. The devotion begins with exposition
of the Blessed Sacrament. A priest or deacon removes the sacred host from the tabernacle and places it on the altar for
adoration. When a consecrated host is placed in the monstrance, it is said to be a solemn exposition. Adoration ceremonies
traditionally include Scripture readings, hymns, prayers and time for silent adoration. It really is a time for one on one time
with Jesus.
Pope Benedict XVI in Questions and Answers wrote on Eucharistic Devotion; “Adoration means entering the depth of our hearts in
communion with the Lord, who makes Himself bodily present in the Eucharist. In the monstrance, he always entrusts Himself to us
and asks us to be united with His Presence, with His risen Body.” Copied from: http://whycatholicsdothat.com

Congregation of the Resurrection
February 17 — Founders’ Day
The Congregation of the Resurrection traces its origins to FEBRUARY 17, 1836 when a small group of Polish émigrés
chose to live and work together. Bogdan Janski was the leader. He had come to Paris in 1828 to study law and economics. Janski
got caught up in Saint-Simonism which preached a complete social, political and moral transformation of the world. Disillusioned
by this, he was drawn into a licentious lifestyle and abandoned his childhood Catholic faith. Upon meeting Catholic social
reformers, Janski returned to the faith and invited others to conversion. One of these was Peter Semenenko, a fiery revolutionary
who fought in the unsuccessful November 1830 Polish rebellion against the Russian overlords. Semenenko fled to Paris, joined
radical political associations and the Masons and became an atheist who led a dissolute lifestyle. With the influence of Janski,
Semenenko had a conversion experience. Jerome Kajsiewicz had also fought in the unsuccessful revolution and fled to Paris where
he abandoned his faith and led a life of partying and pleasure. Realizing his life was going nowhere, he became attracted to Janski
and Semenenko and had a conversion experience. Janski, Semenenko and Kajsiewicz dreamed about the Christian revitalization of
society. In order to do this a religious community was needed and they founded the Congregation of the Resurrection.
Congregation of the Resurrection has been serving St. Pius X Parish since 2012.
Please remember in your prayers the Resurrectionist Fathers & Brothers. Thank you!

Trust in the Lord
St. Pius X Men’s Club
This talk is practical. It is for everyone-beginners and masters
in the spiritual life. We all know that growth in holiness is
largely about growing in trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. But
how does one do that realistically?
In this talk, Bismarck Diocese Vocations Director,
Fr. Tom Richter will describe in concrete terms what the
interior act of trust looks like, and what we must choose in
order to grow in trust.

Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

“TRUST IN THE FATHER’S CARE”
Bishop Conlon’s mailing asking for a pledge to the
2014 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal is in the hands of
many of our parishioners. If you have received the mailing,
please respond as soon as possible.
This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Trust in the Father’s
Care.” God’s blessings are abundant. Each of us should always
be thankful that we can trust in the Father’s care. We can
demonstrate our gratitude to God and help build the kingdom of
God in our own parish and our own diocese by making a
generous gift to the CMAA.
The Appeal not only funds the operations of the diocese, it
funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our
parish. Please answer the bishop’s request and make a
generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10 installments.
Thank you in advance for your support.
The SERRA CLUB OF DUPAGE, a national organization
supporting vocations to the priesthood and religious life, invites
you to join them on Monday, February 17, 2014, at
Christ the King Parish, 1501 Main Street, Lombard. The
evening will begin at 6:00 pm with Rosary and Mass in the
Church. Dinner will follow in the Parish Center. At the dinner,
Fr Paul Henson, O Carm will be the guest speaker.
Father Henson left California to enter Carmel in
Washington DC. After his ordination in 2002, Father Paul went
back to California to serve for ten years as teacher and principal
at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino and assist at
parishes around Los Angeles.
