when making a proper drop:
• Must stand erect
• Hold the ball at shoulder height and arm’s length
• Drop it
If the ball is dropped by any other person or in any
other manner, and the error is not corrected, the
player incurs a one stroke penalty.
If the ball touches the player, his partner, either of
their caddies or their equipment before or after it
strikes a part of the course, the ball must be redropped without penalty. There is no limit to the

Practicing with a Purpose by Spencer Brown
Do you go to the driving range and hit as many balls as possible? Do you feel the more balls you hit, the more you will
improve? If you said YES to either of these questions, then you have the common misconception of many golfers today.
“Practicing with a purpose” is a good way to look at improving your golf game because it helps your mind and body
develop the correct fundamentals in your swing. For example, in the middle of each lesson on the driving range, I will
ask a student “Where are you aiming?” Many times I will get a response such as, “I am not aiming at anything; I am just
hitting.” To help the student implement hitting at a target, there are a few options:
1. Set up a golf club or alignment stick on the ground that points at your target, and line
up your feet on the line that your club creates.
2. Create a line of sight from your ball to your target. Then pick out a spot on the
ground in front of your golf ball (6-12 inches in front of the ball) to help you create a
consistent target at which to aim.
3. Make sure to take a break after every few shots to make sure your alignment is
correct.
4. Instead of aiming all your practice shots at one particular green, change your targets
frequently to get used to different sight lines.

Golf Course Maintenance Update
Wash-outs: What are they and how did they get here? If you have
noticed small gullies or trenches filled with sand on the golf course,
these are wash-outs. A wash-out occurs during the “grow-in” process
of building a golf course. It typically happens when water from rainfall
runs off of the side of a slope or mounds and “washes-out” the grass
that was planted in that area. How do we fix them?
Throughout the summer we will be fertilizing these areas with an
organic slow release nitrogen fertilizer. After the fertilizer has been applied we then top-dress the area with sand and level it off. This is not
a onetime fix as it takes numerous applications of top-dressing sand to
get the areas repaired. Over time, the grass will grow up and across the
sand creating a level playing surface.

POOL AND FITNESS UPDATE
Hello, my name is Sarah Hall and I am very happy to be your new Sports & Recreation Director. My first focus
this summer is to provide a safe, clean and FUN pool facility. Second, is to provide more opportunities for the
ABCC kids. After I accomplish those first two goals, I will work on providing more group exercise classes, group
personal training and nutrition counseling.
I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting a
Kids Night Out, every Friday night throughout the
summer. Kids Night Out will be from 5–9pm and is a
great opportunity for the parents to enjoy and evening
at the club while we do our best to make sure your kids
will sleep well that night. Children age 5 and older will
enjoy tennis instruction and/or lawn games, dinner
and swimming. If there is inclement weather, we will be
indoors with board games, a craft and a movie. Please
RSVP by noon each Friday BY contacting the Club at
904-372-2222. The cost is $25.00 for four hours.

Real Estate Update ~
Home and homesite sales in Atlantic Beach Country Club are going
even better than originally expected. Our beautiful coastal community is very popular with new home buyers. Riverside Homes and
Toll Brothers both have stunning models open and both recently won
awards in the Parade of Homes. In addition to their furnished models,
both builders have spec homes underway to offer buyers a quick move
opportunity. Models are open Monday 11 am to 6 pm; Tue-Sat 10 am
to 6 pm; and Sunday 11 am to 6 pm.
The developers, Atlantic Beach Partners, LLC, partnered with Berkshire
Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network to sell 58 of the 178 original
homesites. Of those 58, there are only 15 homesites remaining.
Riverside Homes Model - The Rosemary
Over 130 Realtors attended an exclusive evening event hosted recently
by the developers to introduce them to the community and to enjoy
tours of each model. The response from Realtors was overwhelmingly
positive. “There is nothing that compares to the unique beauty and
superb amenities of Atlantic Beach Country Club”, said Linda Vaughn,
Realtor with Exit Realty. “It is a joy to bring potential buyers to such a
perfect location.”
