President’s Message
I just looked back to last year’s
message for this issue. It said
“Spring at last! I was beginning
to think it would never come, but
it really always does.” Well, it
did and it really always does. This
year it is especially welcome. I’m
eager to get outside and paint
something green, although, as of
this writing, there is still a foot of
snow in my backyard.
The year ahead looks busy. We
have our Tenth Annual Members’
Show coming up. Ten years is a
milestone for a volunteer group,
and the existence of the Pastel
Society of New Hampshire is a
tribute to all of the members who
do volunteer.
At the Liz Hayward Sullivan
Workshop in February, Liz
encouraged the participants to
volunteer. I echo her words. We
need new people to enrich PSNH
with fresh ideas. Volunteer for a
director’s post or chair one our
events. If you like to work with a
friend or spouse, volunteer as cochairs. Call our vice president or
me to find out what is needed and
what you can do to help our
society celebrate its eleventh
annual members’ show.
Watch for the notice to submit
your application for “It’s Pastel!”
As you know, this will be our first

I’d like to thank Mary Ann Eldred for her work
as treasurer and Gary Ozias for his work as

worked hard at their posts and deserve our
gratitude.
We are fortunate to welcome Marilyn Bok to

With Ed Chesnovitch PSA PPSCC
Fire up your imagination and explore the emotional side of landscape pastel painting.
Color and light are the focus of this 2-day studio workshop.
We will concentrate on creating strong simplified starts by using big shapes of bold color.
Working on various grounds we will explore starts by under-painting techniques, mark making,

PSNH Members Invited to Join PPOM
at a White Mountain Fall
Painting Retreat
This is not a workshop; there will be no instruction
or formal critiques - just lots of beautiful painting
sites, laughter, and good friends. This retreat is still
very much in the planning stage. Probable dates are
mid-September, in the Newry, Maine area. We will
be staying at a lodge that can accommodate up to 16
people. The weekend retreat will be limited to 20
participants due to the size of the indoor studio
space (in case of inclement weather). There are
several other accommodations and additional
lodging nearby. Numerous painting spots abound
near the lodge, with Grafton Notch State Park,
Screw Auger Waterfall, and the Newry Covered
Bridge to name just a few. If you are interested in
learning more about this retreat, contact Kate
Bergquist, PSA [email protected]. The
dates and cost - which will include lodging and
breakfast, will be posted on the PPOM website
